Did you guys hear DT did play one show with Charlie again? They played WDADU in it's entirety, last year I think, with him. I think the show was in New York, I'll check up on that.. but Charlie must have been really old.

nowitzki 11-02-2005 05:26 PM
They re-do the album with Charlie, and play Metropolis and a few other songs from that era.
James sings most of it, they just get Charlie to do one or two.

That seems pointless... I'm sure you're wrong, but I can't be arsed to argue!

GenuineImitation 11-02-2005 05:28 PM
I was so close to ordering the When Dream and Day ReUnite official bootleg DVD today, but the Ytse Jam Records site doesn't accept Maestro cards :upset:

They get Charlie back to sing a couple of songs on that.
I have that. They have both Labrie and Charlie doing a duet for Metropolis. They got Derek Shirinian back to also do a duet with Rudess.
He may be on some other songs, but I got it the other day and only watched Metropolis so far.
That seems pointless... I'm sure you're wrong, but I can't be arsed to argue!
Personally I think it was definitely the best thing to do... the worst thing about WDADU for me is Charlie's vocals, so having James sing the whole album is an awesome idea.

and I'll check up to see who's right...

Charlie does the Encore= 2 songs. You win.

I prefer James, apart from on Status Seeker, I think Charlie's vocals on that are perfect.

They asked Kevin Moore to duet with James on Space-Dye-Vest, but he declined.

You should have pretended you were talking about a different DVD, then you would have both one:naughty: .

Errmmmm.....it could have been a bootleg he made himself...yes, that's right.

"I could replace my whole rig with this" - or could he? Does anyone know what that guitar is on the Budokan DVD?

It is that sort of guitar, but not that exact one. The one he uses is a light brown one, in the shape of an Ibenez or something.

nowitzki 11-02-2005 06:05 PM

That must be the EZ-EG then, there's a link to it on that page.

Just wondering, what are Dream Theater's best and heaviest instrumentals?

Any replies are appreciated :)

eighty d 11-02-2005 10:20 PM

i dunno about heaviest, but i like erotomania the best.

TojesDolan 11-02-2005 11:29 PM

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but:

Octavarium is the eighth studio album by Dream Theater, it has eight songs and the songs are in the key of Fmin, Gmin, Amin, Bmin, Cmin, Dmin, Emin and Fmin, respectively through the number of the songs.

That's a rather cool thing, if you ask me. Nothing impressive by today's standards (not to mention this is a musicians forums) but it was worth the mention.

If these DVD extras are funnier than Cradle of filth's schlockumentary on Heavy left handed and candid...It will be funny indeed.

nowitzki 11-03-2005 07:30 AM

Just seeing Cradle of Filth is pretty funny in general.

They had people walking around on stilts on stage and the guitarist windmilling looked funny.
Also there was some back-up singer who stood on stage all through the set and only sung for one song.

Jev 11-03-2005 11:13 AM

No, You probably wouldn't find it funny anyway. :(

I don't like COF, I just wanted to see if they're good live.

Jev 11-03-2005 11:33 AM

Well they're not bad live, they did put on a show with the people on stilts ect. and sounded pretty good.

Lord Abortion 11-03-2005 12:29 PM

They were excellent live when I saw them, and I'm going to see them again next month...then again...I'm a fanboy:p

The extra in question is basically them incredibly drunk with a video camera on tour, it's brilliant

Aaron 11-03-2005 04:39 PM
You've listened to the whole of Metropolis Pt. 2: SFAM? Well that's regarded as one of their best albums by most fans, but it is very progressive so won't appeal to all.

no, not all of it.

where's the best place to start listening? (apart from rush  )

I don't get it:confused: .

EDIT: ahhh yes, you were talking about the 8V link.

nowitzki 11-03-2005 05:29 PM

Hahaha, it's quite an interesting article, especially all the references in the title track.

Oh yeah, there's one of the references to their influences during Full Circle that the article didn't pick up on - "Sailing on the Seven Seize" is ALSO a reference to Sailing the Seas Of Cheese by Primus. Not really that important, but I noticed they showed the album cover during that part of the song when they played it live. Not that important, but I thought it was worth a mention :D

During those parts of the songs, those clips from other songs play in the background. Portnoy says those intervals as the clips play.

scenesfromatheater 11-03-2005 05:43 PM

Can you explain an example. I just don't understand where abouts in the song and what I'm listening for????

nowitzki 11-03-2005 05:54 PM

At 18.54 where it sounds like he's belching, that's him saying "third". They're all in that section of the song, you just have to listen out carelfully.
