Well he didn't say the band was better when you were stoned, he said watching the Wizerd of Oz lined up with Dark Side of the Moon is better stoned, whitch could be true, I don't know I've never done it non stoned.
Im talking bout the music in general, and i cant say i have either.either stoned or drunk..so ofcourse i dont remember |
Its only cd, I can't upload things for some reason on my computer, when I get a faster computer hopfully this summer I'm going to upload my bootlegs and make a thread to post them in.
Well, I was hoping it could be like a DVD release or something, you know. It would be cool to see them do the live show and performing the songs. |

I prefer Gilmour, I just love the way he plays guitar. Gilmour's got a good voice too, the only area where I prefer Roger is songwriting. |

Im a little upset i asked that question..cause i try to think of Floyd as a whole..and they all contribute something different. |
If i were to have Roger or Gilmour, Id go with Roger. Dispite their hatred, he kept that band on top as long as they were playing. Gilmours Guitar playing will remain untouched, but i think song construction/writing > Good guitar playing.
But Gilmours Slide guitar solos are ungodly. I couldnt dream of even coming close to his style |
You know I was board so I was reading the past pages that I missed in the Floyd thread, and also because I am board I thought I might share my veiws on this issue since its one I feel strongly on.
I like Syd's lyrics better because they have so many different meanings to me. While Waters lyrics are great, and I identify with them, I find that I identify with Syd's lyrics much more and one song can be identified with at more then one time in my life. Though one thing that is missing from Syds lyrics is the concept album. Waters wrote brillent concept albums, and so really you are comparing the styles of two different poets when you compare Syd and Waters. You are also comparing the styles of two different guitar players when you compare Syd to Gilmour. Syd was amazing at writting rythem, and his song show it. I like his rytheme riffs MUCH more then Gilmours. Though Gilmour's strenght came in leads, so he is technically better. Syd wrote some great leads, but not as great, or as many as Gilmour. So to compare the song writing and guitar writing to the other members is like comparing Apples and Orenges (waits to see if anybody catches the reference)
a late single they had with syd soon before he went nuts (moreso). They performed it on the Ed Sullivan show (I think). I have a vid of it that I might get around to YouSendingIt, and frankly it isn't very good, they sound like a crappy highschool band when doing it live. |
Does anybody have floyd performing DSOTM live dvd? Im thinkin of getting it since im lookin to cover DSOTM on guitar a little better, or more interesting, since just playin the same thing now is wearing me out.
And is ummagumma an original album and/or live? somebody i was talkin to today really confused me...since i thought i knew more about floyd. I hate when i think i owned somebody then fail :upset: |

The studio isn't talked about very often because its not that great. |
I might need to buy that online. I havent seen it in any stores here...ever.

Go for it. It's one of my favorite Floyd albums, mostly because of the live disc. |

Yeah, I bought mine on Amazon, and thats where I recommend picking it up. |

Ummagumma on tape is a solid studio album. I'm not sure, but I think when they transferred it to digital, they really shitted up the entire album. The tape version is extremely well done, with a real warmth and texture. |
Well, I can't say that tape is better, since I haven't heard it, but I still love Ummagumma. It's very interesting, very avant-garde (I think that's how you spell it) and really showed some progression. Not their best work, but maybe their more interesting one, from a musical standpoint...
I don't know if I understood that meself. |
I just got Animals today, completing my progressive-era Floyd collection (DSotM-Wall)
One thing I've definitely noticed about Floyd albums is that the more you listen to them, the better they get. This is the opposite of what happens with other bands. The first time I listened to it today, I liked it, but I wasn't really getting into it. Now its like my fourth time, and I'm completely entranced. It's weird. The exact same thing happened to me with WYWH and The Wall (I got into DSotM from the start :thumb:) It's not that I don't like them the first time through, they just seem better after a few times through. Anyway, I think the beginning of Dogs has got the most awesome rythym of any Floyd song at least, possibly any song I've ever heard. I think all the songs are great though. I understand the whole album is an Orwellian analogy of animals to humans, which is part the reason why I like it (Animal Farm kicked ***, great read for anybody) Just my two cents. |
I remember when I first got Animals, a similar thing happened to me. It really grew on me and I listened to it a lot.

Just recently I went back and started listening to WYWH, Dark Side and The Wall again for the first time in awhile. Maybe I'll listen to Animals tonight. I can never remember being entranced by an album as much as I was with Animals and Dark Side though. |

That's the only way to do it with Floyd:D |
Animals is a great album. It's one of the two Floyd albums that I've liked from the first listen (the other being WYWH). Dogs would have to be my favorite off of it. I just did an oral report on Animal Farm today, I took in a barn with toy animals and everything.:D
I've really been digging Point Me At the Sky and Candy And A Currant Bun lately. |
That's the only way to do it with Floyd:D
Man...My friend is the lamest Floyd fan ever. He has an IPod, and the only songs he has on there are ABitW 1-3. He's more of a Korn fan, I guess. :p I was actually kind of mad at him when he told me that he put them on there. "Why didn't you just rip the entire Wall on there, *****??!" |
Imagine my friend: she thinks Brain Damage is called Dark Side of the Moon. Same with my brother. They make me mad.
|
That's the only way to do it with Floyd:D
Yeah, can't skip through any Pink Floyd album. I found that out the hard way listening to WWYH. |

You couldnt really call Floyd prog
|
Maybe he was referring to Tool.
|
I've never really been into Tool, but with all the great things I hear about them, I might just have to check them out again.
|

I could |
I've never really been into Tool, but with all the great things I hear about them, I might just have to check them out again.
If you like metal, you should check them out. I consider Lateralus to be their magnum opus (unless their new album is even better...), not sure if you should start with that album though. |
Imagine my friend: she thinks Brain Damage is called Dark Side of the Moon. Same with my brother. They make me mad.
I'm one of two people I know that listens to Pink Floyd, and the other guy started because of me, so about three months ago I knew absolutely nothing about them. I decided just to download some songs, and I downloaded 'Brain Damage' except it was called 'Dark Side of the Moon' on Limewire. You know you're a dumbass when you have the song on your computer and you don't know its real name  |
You couldnt really call Floyd prog
Then what would you call it? |

Go out and buy the CD. |
I've listened to Pink Floyd for over 16 years. Absolutely love them. I have all their records. I think the most insane song they've written has to be a toss up between ''Several species of small furry animals gathered together in a cave and grooving with a pict'' and ''Alans Psychadelic Breakfast''
|
You couldnt really call Floyd prog
Floyd brought prog rock to an new untouched level. and to Flynn...i never really heard of them songs, though they sound odd, but do you own all the albums including live and the other stuff, or studio. |
You couldnt really call Floyd prog
PF is Prog, but you could also call the Space-rock (this term was orginally created to desciribe there early work)/Psychedlic/Prog/Art Rock |
I think they are Art Rock.
|
The genre doesn't mean anything. Listen to Yes, which is considered prog rock, and it sounds nothing like floyd. Music is music.
