Thanks, I'm always trying to get more into Floyd :)
Yea about a month ago I was in your shoes where I was just trying to buy more Floyd music quicker then I could afford it. But I think I'm finally done with my collection. I wish the band would put out more live stuff as a whole rather then just the solo live cds. |
Im using the brief amount of my time on MX to share that i have just bought Piper at the Gates of Dawn...from the money ive been saving for my pedal on reserve for 3 months (which i shouldve been picking up soon).
Im sure itll be worth the $20 :)
What kind of pedal are you buying? I want a fuzz pedal. |
Good buy Echoes.
This is a good time of the year, because a year ago I started listening to Floyd. Good memories. |
I remember a few years ago I had a massive Floyd obsession. I still love their 60's and 70's work and Dogs is one of my favourite songs to improvise over.
|
Yes I must concur that pink floyd is wonderful. There music is like a new adventure ever time you listen to it. I Have listened to DSotM hundreds of times and it is a timeless album that never grows old. However, I have recently found new gems in there many albums wwhich are amazing. Such as Meddle, it is soo the prelude to DSotM and it has a such a wide array of music. For some reason the cooky song San Tropez has grown on me. I love all Floyd but I think that once Rodger Waters left the band It all wwent to crap. Even the Final Cut was a horible album compared to the others.

Pulse is pretty good. comfortably numb of pulse is like a wonderful journey through Gilmour's playing. |
Everything by Pink Floyd is a wonderful journey through Gilmour's playing. It's orgasm inducing.
Does anyone know what kind of wah pedal Gilmour used? |

I'm at the buy as much Floyd as I can stage |
I haven't heard Pulse I think its the only Pink Floyd live album I have not hread...that includes all of Syd's bootleged concerts.
Has anyone heard Live in London 66-67? If you buy the vidio you can see that John Lennon is in the front row. |
I don't have any Pink Floyd bootlegs, but I plan to pick some up next chance I get.
|
I have enough trouble finding Floyd CDs, let alone bootlegs.
Oh, but I do have 5 original tapes. Booyah! |
With the help of the Soul in my Seek anything is possible. :)
|
I wish I could transfer tapes to a digital medium easily. You guys HAVE to hear how Ummagumma sounds in tape form.
Pulse is pretty good.
comfortably numb of pulse is like a wonderful journey through Gilmour's playing.
Well I agree Pulse is amazing, but even on Comfortably Numb, while I do feel that its the best recording of it, Roger's part isn't the same. Its the same thing for Run Like Hell and Time on the cd. |
Well I saw a vase so fine
I just had to make it mine So I bought the whole production line Bedposts made of pine Several hundred dollar wine Got to find a fancy place to dine at nine I get my paycheck, I am fed Now I can rest my head And calm my heard made of lead Only see your wife in bed She gets your money when your dead The only reason why you wed I have to be the leader of the pack You know I would stab you in the back To buy a brand new caddillac Bottomless money sack Caviar as a snack Buy your wife a new rack Well I tend to rant and rave About my new pricey microwave And my driveway with a golden pave No matter how deep you hide in your cave You will always be a slave Till your in your ten thousand dollar grave. Do you guys think that sounds a little too much like money? Or is it fine. |
only this part does
Bottomless money sack Caviar as a snack Buy your wife a new rack |
Yea thats the part that got me thinking about it.
I mean I would like to keep it in because well its the only part that really adds some humor to it, and I can't think of many other words to keep up with the "ack" rhyme |

Roger didn't sing on Time. As for your song, it's mostly cool, that one part that was mentioned does remind me of Money. Also, the part right before that, about stabbing in the back, and a new cadillac, reminds me a lot of Dogs. |

Its been a long time since I've listened to any Dark Side of the Moon song expect on Pulse, so I when I heard the singing kind of off I just assummed. And yea I didn't think of the Dogs reference either, but its true. Yeah I mean I didn't even have the song Money in mind when I wrote it, but I would rather not have a song written where people just think I was copying Waters when I took the time to write it myself, and I figured the Floyd thread would be a good place to find it out, thanks for the input guys :thumb: |
Very welcome. I wish I could write lyrics...
Very welcome. I wish I could write lyrics...
If you want to, well not that I'm an expert, but what I do is I think of a concept (like money, morals, or philosophy) then write out in a few sentences what I want to express. Then I take the main concepts and write down a list of words that rhyme with them, and another list of metaphors that could represent it. After that its pretty easy to put the rhymes to the metaphors and well the hardest part after that is thinking up a tital. Just some tips I use in case you want to ever try writing. Even if your not going to put out the lyrics you should try writting, its really relaxing. Its funny how simple lifes little concepts are when everything rhymes. |
That last sentence was very eloquently put. I like it. Thanks for the tips!

Thanks, and anytime. You know speaking of the writting process of lyrics Roger's is really interesting. He seems to like to make a full circle with his writting and end the album where he began. Like with Pig on the Wing part one and two, or Shine on You Crazy Dimond being slipt up and put on the different ends of the album. I think he did that on purpose because I think Pig on the Wing part one and two were suppose to be one song at one time, because I have a recording of it where they two parts are connected by a solo in the middle, and it all fit. |

Does anyone know what kind of wah pedal Gilmour used?
On live at Pompeii he is using a Vox. |

I have some money, and of course I want to spend it on Pink Floyd stuff... but I don't know what.
There are the DVD's (the one about the making of DSOTM, the one about Syd Barrett, and one of the band talking of how they feel about each album [Dave saying that he hates Atom Heart Mother]) or there are the albums, and I don't know which one to get. Help. |
