Illmatic 05-18-2005 11:19 PM

I'm still wary of it.

thickasabrick 05-18-2005 11:24 PM

I'm actually more in it for the fact that I get to take a road trip to see "The Doors." Me and my friends are loading up on psychedelics and taking the VW down there for the weekend.

Someone will eventually write a book about it.

Ulysses 05-18-2005 11:58 PM

My mates went tripping before they saw The Doors. I would've gone with them but I blew my cash on a Jethro Tull concert which was fantastic.

Walrus Gumboot 05-19-2005 07:15 AM
I don't mind The Cult. I'd go to a Cult concert. Why not go to a concert that also features Ray Manzarek, John Densmore, and Robbie Krieger.
I would go anyway to see Ray Manzarek, IMO he was the defining member of The Doors

caitlin 05-19-2005 07:29 AM

I mainly listen to classic rock, you just can't beat the originals

White_heat 05-19-2005 10:30 AM

speaking about the doors, i just saw that oliver stone movie about the doors, it really sucked. It only shows the drunken wild side of morrison, and it really shows nothing about the music, or any one else in the band.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 05-19-2005 12:00 PM
edit- Oh ya and The Doors of the 21st Century are coming to a nearby city in July. I'm going. I don't care what anyone says about "it not being the same about Jim Morrison," of course it isn't...but he wasn't the entire band.
I saw them before they even made a DVD of the exact concert I went to. Im sick of everyone complaining about how Morrison was the band and the rest of the Doors just want some more money from his name.

thickasabrick 05-19-2005 12:53 PM
My mates went tripping before they saw The Doors. I would've gone with them but I blew my cash on a Jethro Tull concert which was fantastic.
Yeah Jethro Tull would be awesome. Who were all the members playing? (I know they've changed their lineup quite a bit over the decades)

I wouldn't mind eating a bit of shrooms before the Doors concert, but I wouldn't wanna be in an enclosed area with tons of other people. I get panicky and I need to be in wide open spaces. Plus there will probably be a bunch of "squares" there. Definitely bringing pot though.

TheDMV 05-19-2005 01:58 PM

My health teacher told me a story about his cousin going to a Grateful Dead concert. He said when her uncle went to pick him up, her freinds told him that she had met a guy. Apparently, she took 5 hits of acid (Supposedly 7 can make you insane) and thought she married this 30something guy. She was in 8th grade. They were able to follow her by her mac card where ever the Dead were playing and eventually, in New York, they found her. The guy just gave her up. I thought it was a really cool story.

lunch998 05-19-2005 01:58 PM

I would probably freak out if I was on shrooms at a concert.

Hopefully the Moe/Allman Brothers journey will be very psychedelic.

Leper 05-19-2005 02:28 PM

ya the doors of the 21st century are coming to my city too. I'm thinking about going, since i heard they were amazing the last time they were here.

RobNY 05-19-2005 02:31 PM

I was digging through some of my dad's records, and found a seven inch with two Cream songs on it (from Wheels of Fire), Those were the days and White Room. Although I have those on CD, I just had an urge to pop it in. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if the thing is hooked up to the speakers, and if it is, how to turn 'em on. Gah!

Anyway, the other day my dad mentioned that he has the Allman Brothers: Live at Fillmore on record, and I was lookin' for that. No luck so far.
My favourite Doobie Brothers song is probably China Grove or Listen to the Music.
I'm not really familiar with the Doobie Brothers, but from what I've heard of Michael McDonald, he has an amazing voice. My dad's a fan of them, though.

Guys, my friends want to go to a concert, what do you think is the most acceptable? Bear in mind that my friends' tastes in music are variable and... probably different. See the list here, http://www.tommyhilfigerjonesbeach.com/schedule.html

So this isn't a strictly Classic Rock question, but, eh. Your opinion would be nice.

oh man, that's tough..but if you want my opinion, i'd go with either Tom Petty/Black Crows or John Mellencamp/John Fogerty. :thumb:

RobNY 05-19-2005 03:34 PM

Petty is sold out lepper, sorry to disappoint you.

Med-- totally. I was thinking priest or allman myself. Unfortunately, it's going to be hard convincing my friends to go for Judas Priest. **** my friends (well, at least one guy) for not appreciating Priest. ;) I mean, I'm hardly a huge Priest fan, and I enjoy Sad Wings of Destiny (not like they'll be playing a setlist with lots of those songs), as well as some of their other high profile songs (i.e., the hellion/electric eye), but, come one, it's friggen Judas Priest. And once (if) I convince my friends for the Priest concert, then I have to convince my dad. Haha, that'll be fun. He's a classic rock fan, but I think metal scares him. :p And I can't personally see my friends wanting to go to see the Allman brothers. Hrm. I'm going to have to be a crafty politician to avoid them going to see Sum 41 and Motley Crue. Hahaha. No way I pay to see that.

The Gigantour would probably be way too heavy for them. Although having Dream Theater would help to popularize it, because they're from Long Island (not to mention that it would be cool to see petrucci play)....

I'm not familiar enough with the Pixies to commit to a concert by them. Same with Tori.

thickasabrick 05-19-2005 03:38 PM

An Evening with Brian Wilson would rock.

ledpoisoning27 05-19-2005 03:42 PM

Today is Pete Townshend's B-day

As celebration I bought The Who: Live at the Isle of Wight Festival 1970 Dvd

lunch998 05-19-2005 03:42 PM

Good work, it's a great Dvd.

Woodstock 05-19-2005 03:51 PM

Half of the regulars are already seeing The Allmans. Including me.

RockAndRoll 05-19-2005 03:55 PM

As good as the kids are alright?

lunch998 05-19-2005 03:56 PM
As good as the kids are alright?
Probably not. The only thing better about it is that it's just them playing a concert straight through in 1970. But it doesn't have all the details and other things that the Kids Are Alright has.

thickasabrick 05-19-2005 03:57 PM

I'd wanna see the Allmans, I don't think they are coming to my area though.

Woodstock 05-19-2005 04:10 PM
I'd wanna see the Allmans, I don't think they are coming to my area though.
The date that they're playing in my city isn't even shown on they're website. I heard about it through the classic rock station.

thickasabrick 05-19-2005 04:16 PM

Anyone think the into bass part to Cosmic Charlie is very similar to Truckin? And it's kind of strange they have the word "truckin" within the first few lines.

I don't mean anything by this..so it's kind of a pointless post. I just noticed it.

Killer songs though.

edit- damn, I can't get anything right today. I had to edit this like four times.

It's not really a thread....

Yeah I had to do a lot of editing to my post. Many mistakes.

Big news, I downloaded Itunes (to play music on), so now I can support both mp3 and WMA files.
