Woodstock 05-17-2005 07:05 PM

I listened to Allman Brothers: Live At The Fillmore today. I forgot how good that album is. Man, I can't wait to see them.

gmoneyguy 05-17-2005 07:05 PM

When are you gonna see them?

TheDMV 05-17-2005 07:28 PM
I was very tempted to put it in, but it does have a couple of weak songs, and some short, unnecessary songs. I did include Live At Leeds though, and was talking about the deluxe edition with Tommy performed. I think that live version of Tommy blows away the album and is perfect.
The short ones are just there to advance the plot, they probably could have bben added on to other songs, but it flows well so I don't really mind. I find that Tommy combines flow and excelent music better than many other albums.

robo2448 05-17-2005 07:42 PM

I see how most of the short ones work, but similar to The Wall, some of them are just unnecessary, like Tommy Can You Hear Me?

jpj 05-17-2005 07:46 PM

Most will disagree, but I honestly think Eat a Peach is perfect.

EDIT: Well, I sure know how to kill a thread :(

Concerts in Daytona late june

Hi,

I'm going to Daytona Beach, FL, late this june to visit a buddy of mine. Does anybody know of any concerts, festivals or venues worth going to at that time down there? Not necessarily classic rock, though, anything with a good guitar is good...

Thanks.

Leper 05-18-2005 12:33 PM

I found out something the other day that I never knew before..I was looking at the booklet of my Tom Petty cd-full moon fever- and apparently George Harrisson sings backup on one, maybe more of his tracks (Won't back down i'm pretty sure is one of them). I'm not entirely sure why this amazed me, but it did nevertheless.

ATM 05-18-2005 12:41 PM

Have you guys heard Dinosaur by King Crimson?

Leper 05-18-2005 12:53 PM

lol, i still haven't heard any king crimson.

I think the only King Crimson song I've heard id 21st Century Schizoid Man. I enjoyed the song, but I don't think that I would really like them that much. To be honest I'd probably only buy one of their albums to hear Tony Levin play. He's supposed to be an amazing bassist so I'd like to see what he can do.

White_heat 05-18-2005 01:43 PM

Hello, im new here and my favorite band is the velvet underground. I guess that goes under this thread. So I was wondering if people here like them, because not many people i know like them.
What are your thoughts on the velvet underground?

TheDMV 05-18-2005 01:48 PM

I enjoy what few songs I have heard from the Velvets.

/puts them on

They were incredibly influential, and very versatile. Unfirtunatley, there were so not mainstream that I almost never hear their songs. I've been wanting to buy VU & Nico for a while, but, I have no money.

Jebediah 05-18-2005 01:53 PM

Nico is currently up in the Alt/Indie YouSendtIt thread.

jpj 05-18-2005 01:58 PM

I only have VU & Nico, but I really like it. Heroin is an awesome song.

If you are more of a mainstream person, i think you should buy either their self titled album or their "loaded" album first, they are more conventional rock albums.

TheDMV 05-18-2005 02:04 PM

I'm not mainstream at all really. I was just pointing out that it took me a while to discover them because they get basically zero airplay. I don't care how much it gets played as long as it's good music.

robo2448 05-18-2005 02:29 PM

I have very little VU, but love what i do have. Oh Sweet Nuthin' is amazing. Great song.

White_heat 05-18-2005 03:08 PM
I've been listening to Workingman's Dead lately (I'm trying to cover "Cumberland Blues"). And I realized that this is one of the few perfect (IMO) albums I have ever heard. Which would hold a position that Dr. John's Gris-gris and Calexico's Convict Pool also hold.

Do any of you have albums that you think are perfect (as in every song is fantastic and definitely 5/5)?
i would say the only perfect albums ive heard are wish you where here by pink floyd (not dark side because of "on the run") and Machine Head by deep purple comes really close to being perfect
same with
Whos Next
The doors
Velvet Underground and nico
Let it bleed

Distant Echoes 05-18-2005 03:43 PM

On the run couldnt be better to be on DSOTM. Its the best example of what the album represents 'the troubles of the world enough to drive you insane'.

anyway, mine are
DSOTM
WYWH
LZIV
Sgt Peppers
Moving Pictures

-open for AIM music swaping :)

yeah it fits the album, but doesnt any one else find it annoying after a while?

Distant Echoes 05-18-2005 06:42 PM

no. In fact, im trying to match the effects on my guitar. Of course, its near impossibe to match, but playin it without the album isnt to bad. You just need a ****load of effects and a slide
