wait.. so are you implying i should leave again or like punk again?
I really wasnt implying anything, but since you insist, choose.

Brain Toad 06-05-2005 02:58 PM

My intrest in punk dies every once in awhile, but then I listen to DK and its all better.

I've been listening mostly to AC/DC and The Beatles as of late though. And Johnny Cash.

Anxious 06-05-2005 03:00 PM

Same thing here, I'llk start listening to Beefheart, or Funkadelic alot. Then I'll listen to Black Flag and im back again.

TAND 06-05-2005 03:00 PM
I really wasnt implying anything, but since you insist, choose.
i like ska. punk just doesnt really appeal to me the same as it used to. i am bored of it cause it all sounds the same to me. and as a bassist it is no fun.

123.

Edit: for the most part anyways.

I am also a bassist, in a punk band and since i started this band my interest in punk has soared.

Anxious 06-05-2005 03:04 PM

Punk bass was always boring to me, then i listened to the minutemen and i never put my bass down. Good ole Mike watt.

TAND 06-05-2005 03:19 PM
I am also a bassist, in a punk band and since i started this band my interest in punk has soared.
but punk bass requires no talent. well except for some timing. but you dont need much of it. most are 8th or 16th notes. its too easy. i want something challenging.

Anxious 06-05-2005 03:28 PM

True.

Pick up, or steal the cd Double Nickles on the Dime, by Minutemen, If you havent already. It'll change you mind.

Twat_Out_Of_Hell 06-05-2005 03:28 PM

Punk bass can be as interesting as you want to make it. Write your own bass lines if you want to play something interesting, if not check out some decent bands for basslines.

Ranicd- Detroit, Axiom, etc etc
NOFX- 180 degrees, Jaw Knee Music, Bath Of Least Resistance etc etc
Dead Kennedys- (lots, have a liste)

etc etc

albert_bass 06-05-2005 03:28 PM

Punk bass is awesome. And also ska bass. Metal bass is horrible though, not because it's talentless, because it is talented, I just can't play it, it's so **** boring.

SpecialBoy 06-05-2005 03:29 PM

Ska's all 'bout teh bass.

Anxious 06-05-2005 03:32 PM
Ska's all 'bout teh bass.
Ska just usally uses a buttload of minor triads, pretty simple gets boring to me. Plastic Suergery disasters, by DK is plagued with good bass lines from Klaus. Forest Fire is my favorite.

i have double nickles on the dime. i'll admit watt is ****in' nuts. but that doesnt change my mind. cause they dont sound punk at all to me.

and id rather just enjoy writing my own ska lines. or learning new ska lines.

SpecialBoy 06-05-2005 03:33 PM

Reggae is also all 'bout teh bass.

TAND 06-05-2005 03:33 PM

i like the horns as well.

theramed toothpaste 06-05-2005 03:34 PM

Crass have nice bass lines IMO

albert_bass 06-05-2005 03:35 PM

Good punk bass:

Rancid, Satanic Surfers, Nomeansno, Lagwagon, NOFX, SLM, Catch22, Mad Caddies, Bad Astronaut, Bigwig, Clash, Stiff Little Fingers, (some) Toy dolls, AFI, Dead Kennedys, Anti-flag, Green Day, Operation Ivy, Propagandhi, Randy, Vandals, Rich Kids On LSD, Less Than Jake, 88 fingers louie, Deviates... plus many more. I don't know you but I don't find it boring.
Crass have nice bass lines IMO
Yeah I think the same. But they're not hard at all, unlike some of these bands lines. Good anyway: Punk is dead for example (check my tab :)).

Anxious 06-05-2005 03:36 PM
Crass have nice bass lines IMO
wow.

Twat_Out_Of_Hell 06-05-2005 03:43 PM

RKL- Betrayed is one of the greatest basslines ever. I need to find a tab for that. Anyone post any other good songs they like to play

In other news i have been randomly listening to a lot of system of a down today, the olny metal/hard rock band i can enjoy

I don't know who's that guy but he's even better than Matt Freeman. Or the same.

I love to play Here's To Life by Streetlight Manifesto.

Anxious 06-05-2005 03:46 PM

My favorite bass line to play right now is Day tripper by the beatles, or Forest Fire by DK.

Rise Me Up 06-05-2005 03:47 PM

I just made this bassline.

i see very few of these bands actually discussed here. and in general punk bass lines suck. and even alot that you listed dont appeal to me in the same sense that ska lines do.

Twat_Out_Of_Hell 06-05-2005 03:50 PM

I've been writing quite a few bass riffs recently, one i ddi today sounded oretty good i thought
