I started off playing bass with a pick and then changed to using my fingers.
It's great if you can use your fingers, use a pick and slap, depending on what style you're playing...

IMO Fingers if you do decide to play with your fingers your in for a world of pain. Cramp and cronic numbness are a pain. Its rewarding tho' when you can slap like a bitch :D

My bassist used a pick for almost 2 years. Such a fool.

But Ellefson's an exception.

I've been playing for 4 years and I still get them every now and again...

Flea used a pick for a few songs on By the Way and a few on Californication.
