new slint song? i didn't know about this

Eliminator 12-16-2007 05:26 PM

song is awesome

samariah 12-16-2007 05:29 PM

i just watched the live version of Captain. "I MISS YOU" sends chills down my spine.

Thanks 12-16-2007 05:45 PM

The new slint song is hilariously bad. When I saw them play it live, I couldn't help laughing, because I thought it was a joke. Everything else they put out is fantastic (yes, including Tweez!).

AndreTheHyena 12-16-2007 06:02 PM

Weird, I was listening to Spiderland when I clicked on this thread, and everyone's talking about 'em.

Watching the new song now...

pulseczar 12-16-2007 06:04 PM

The new song is ok. It sounds like something a high school band would play.

Black Moth Super Rainbow - Dandelion Gum
Oh No - Dr. No's Oxperiment

Haha, yeah. Also, I think I'd be bored out of my mind if I ever saw Slint live and hadn't taken some psychotropic botanicals prior to the show.

samariah 12-16-2007 06:13 PM

i think the new song kind of drags as it goes along and it doesn't seem to go anywhere. it still sounds cool in parts, especially towards the beginning.

Bukowski 12-16-2007 06:19 PM

It was nice seeing Slint play Spiderland, and they played it well. Too well. It was just like listening to the record, there was no deviation, and they had the stage presence of a brick wall. The only reason I semi-enjoyed the show was because I liked the songs so much, but looking back it was a disappointing gig.

The new song was weird to me, as it didn't sound anything like Slint. From what I remember

Eliminator 12-16-2007 06:33 PM

sounded like a slint song to me

Yeah word.

Eliminator 12-16-2007 06:38 PM

they should have shook their guitars and punched their amps

Thanks 12-16-2007 06:38 PM

Agreed.

Smog - Accumulation: None
Mum - Finally We Are No One

pixiesfanyo 12-16-2007 08:01 PM

the singer got pretty into it when i saw them.

YourBiggestFan 12-16-2007 08:04 PM

After multiple tries I've decided that Animal Collective is just not meant for me.

And yeah, Slint is pretty fantastic, though I've only got Spiderland. I hear their other cds they've got are mediocre, though, so I'm alright with this.

Apocalyptic Raids 12-16-2007 08:13 PM

new slint song was meh

samariah 12-16-2007 08:14 PM

if you like spiderland you should listen to the EP at least.

Thanks 12-16-2007 08:23 PM

Suddenly I like For Alto by Anthony Braxton. I used to kinda loath it in general.

Anxious 12-16-2007 09:25 PM

I like Rhoda off the ep.

I picked up my friend once and I had Good Morning Captain playing in the car, no one said a word. You could feel the tension building up in the car.

samariah 12-16-2007 09:37 PM

I put Carol on the other day in the car with my little sister and mom (its the one where it sounds like there is glass shattering everywhere) and they had these wtf expressions on their faces, it made me lol. i also tried to introduce my mom and her boyfriend to new music so i had them listen to Lightning Bolt and Deerhoof in the car but i dont think it turned out to well...

Hahaha, I'm going to start punching my amp at shows.

pulseczar 12-16-2007 09:47 PM

Slint should have a Freebird style guitar duel at the end of Good Morning, Captain.

My perception of music is seriously skewed from a normal person's perspective. When I saw Deerhoof on Monday I took my friend whose never heard them before and I described them as being a pretty normal 3 piece rock band, he though different when the show was over. From the music I normally listen to, they're pretty basic but from someone who's a Rammstein fan its wild. More people than I'd expect like Lightning Bolt though.

heh yeah thats pretty much how i am. i'm just more drawn to less accessible music. Deerhoof aren't too bizarre in my mind. lol, i burned a cd with Dr. Octagonecolygist on it and tried to play it out with my friend the other night and she made me take it out. i thought she would have liked it but apparently i thought wrong...

asdf 12-16-2007 10:11 PM

I forget that my music is bizarre because in my house it was perfectly acceptable. So at work, or in public, or even around friends sometimes I notice my music kind of... upsets and confuses. It's not on purpose.

My friend did not know how to react when I first played him some Ween. He actually kind of hated it. But The Mollusk is now one of his favorite albums. I don't even find Ween all that strange.

Anxious 12-16-2007 10:14 PM

The only band who I've turned someone on to irl are the Meat Puppets. I gave up on it now and just keep it to myself except whoever is riding with me in my car gets a taste of what I'm digging that week.

samariah 12-16-2007 10:14 PM

Sometimes i find something for someone that i think they would honestly enjoy, and i just get a "what the hell is wrong with you" kind of reaction.

i think i've gotten my mom to like Blonde Redhead and Yo La Tengo, thats about it though.
