Trust me, Lane is way faster than Alexi and Malmsteen put together. The thing is though, he doesn't overdue it at all with fast playing. He also mastered theory in general, meaning that he can seamlessly play on guitar, keyboard, bass, etc.
the stuff i saw in the videos was semi fast but he seemd to be struggling with it.

I really hope you're kidding :-\

Shadows 09-07-2005 02:03 PM

From what I saw, that guy could shred with his weiner if he wanted to. He didn't seem to be struggling at all.

Thor 09-07-2005 02:27 PM
 Tee-sassy uploaded a live video of him playing and I thought he was great. Keep in mind that there's a whole lot more to guitar than speed and shredding.
Well said, buddy. Kirk Hammet is way faster than SRV, but that doesnt make him better, now does it?

MRDuCran 09-07-2005 02:39 PM

Yeah Lane is incredible. I have one of his instructional videos. I'm not a fan of jazz but i can admit that guy is the fastest i've ever seen. Also has some nice compositions so he's not all speed.

Shattered_Future 09-07-2005 03:01 PM

Is Shawn Lane the guy with the 8 string guitar?

If yes, he's hella good.

If not, I'm thinking of somebody else...

Shadows 09-07-2005 03:04 PM

He was playing a six string in the video I saw. Is it just me, or does an 8 string guitar seem a little excessive?

Shattered_Future 09-07-2005 03:06 PM

If you can play it right, no...cause it effectively eliminates the need for a bass.

Thor 09-07-2005 03:07 PM
If you can play it right, no...cause it effectively eliminates the need for a bass.
Yeah, and we bassists don't get enough credit now anyways! :D

Shadows 09-07-2005 03:12 PM
If you can play it right, no...cause it effectively eliminates the need for a bass.
I suppose. I always thought it makes more sense to make full use of a bassist. I'd rather go without a bass because a guitar with such a low pitch sounds terrible. It's like nu metal crap. But I guess when done right it can be as good as anything else.

MRDuCran 09-07-2005 03:14 PM

Nah thats Rusty Cooley. He's extremely fast also.

 you finally listened to it. I like it alot aswell.

what did you think of reap n roll licks?

Shadows 09-07-2005 03:41 PM

Holy Jesus...I've listened to that, the title track, and right now I'm on If You Want Peace... and I think those are even better. The solos on If You Want Peace are fucking thrash metal. The music is fast and unrelentless...oh my god...I can't fucking wait for the release and the tour.

I haven't even watched Reap n' Roll yet, but I will as soon as I'm done with this.

Neurotoxin 09-07-2005 03:49 PM

If anyone has yet to hear the new Bodom, head over here to download it.

Shadows 09-07-2005 03:50 PM

:( But you didn't give any kind of badass introduction or anything!

Neurotoxin 09-07-2005 03:54 PM

That's because they're Bodom, and everyone knows who Bodom is.

Shadows 09-07-2005 03:56 PM

I've seen plenty of people who had no idea who they were. It's good to get the new album out there though.

BECAUSE IT ****ING KICKS ***!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAARRRRRRGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Neurotoxin 09-07-2005 03:58 PM

Better?

Shadows 09-07-2005 03:59 PM

Shadows 09-07-2005 04:10 PM

NEVRMORE2 09-07-2005 04:11 PM

Shadows 09-07-2005 04:15 PM

Yep, that's the video for the new single In Your Face. SoB has a very low quality stream of it up too.

MRDuCran 09-07-2005 04:24 PM

I'm in the process of downloading that.

Shadows 09-07-2005 04:59 PM

I need to air this. Alexi has made AYDY a landmark and brought himself to an all-time high in my eyes. Why? I LOVE THE LYRICS ON THIS ALBUM! Now that's a CoB first.

his vocals are more listanable but his guitar works kinda waneing.

I've played an 8 string. They are very cool. I'm getting a 6 (maybe 7 if i'm lucky) string bass soon. I'm obsessed with having more musical possibilities, haha.

Shadows 09-07-2005 05:02 PM
his vocals are more listanable but his guitar works kinda waneing.
Are you kidding? I'm the exact opposite. His vocals are worse than ever (I couldn't care less about that though) but his guitar work is still flawless. Listen to the solos on If You Want Peace... Prepare for War. That's just fucking insane thrash metal.

NEVRMORE2 09-07-2005 05:07 PM

naw now i can understand the vocals and i dont think that guitar work compares to song like kissing the shadows

MRDuCran 09-07-2005 05:09 PM

Is it strange that when i learn Bodom lyrics, i don't even pay attention to what they mean or what Alexi was thinking when he wrote them, i just worry about actually remembering them.

lol yeah

Huber 09-07-2005 05:11 PM

I don't think his vocals changed for the worst, just changed.

I haven't heard the whole album, but from what I heard it's going in a more heavy direction, and I like it a lot.
He was playing a six string in the video I saw. Is it just me, or does an 8 string guitar seem a little excessive?
Not if your name is Frederik.

I don't follow that logic. I think the guitar playing, in terms of soloing, surpasses much of their older work - Follow the Reaper would be the exception. Leads and licks are few if any, but the soloing is amazing. But when I go back and listen to Something Wild, Hatebreeder, and HCDR, many of the AYDY solos are even faster and longer.

Shattered_Future 09-07-2005 06:06 PM

Each album is different...AYDY is honestly one of my new favorites. It's original, it's catchy, and it sounds great.

dont get me wrong the new album is seriously one of my favs right now i cant wait till it comes out i just dont think solo wise compares to follow the reaper.

Shadows 09-07-2005 06:29 PM
dont get me wrong the new album is seriously one of my favs right now i cant wait till it comes out i just dont think solo wise compares to follow the reaper.
Yeah, the soloing has been toned down a bit. It's still there in full force, but AYDY doesn't have the orgasmically over the top shredfests that Follow the Reaper.
Each album is different...AYDY is honestly one of my new favorites. It's original, it's catchy, and it sounds great.
I agree. I think this is betetr than HCDR. It is so original - I've honestly never heard anything like it by any band before. The riffs, melodies, solos, and vocals are all to unique and amazing.

Sorry, I've been gone from this thread for a while so I don't know why.

Why aren't you allowed in here any more?
