I think a few people probably have.

The new Decemberists album is wicked, I'm loving it right now thanks to Tangy/Swami. I'm also liking Elbow's latest album.
Why Didn't someone tell me how good Beck's Odelay is?
I did, but my musical taste is not to be trusted.

Bartender 03-30-2005 08:22 PM

I've been listening through my lastest haul for most of today. Best of the bunch;

Talking Heads - Fear of Music
Talking Heads - Speaking in Tongues
Elvis Costello - This Year's Model
Leftover Crack - Fuck World Trade

Haven't yet listened to Guero, though.

Listen to it and tell me if it's worth buying. I heard bits of it in a record store last week and thought it sounded pretty good.

UltimaTap 03-30-2005 08:43 PM

I've been listening to A Minor Forest and stuff like Cap'n Jazz, Joan of Arc, American Football, and June of 44.

Smackers 03-30-2005 08:45 PM

Estradasphere.

Bartender 03-30-2005 09:06 PM

^Great album. Some of the songs (like Girlfriend Clothes) are so good to hear played live, mostly since I've not heard them live in person before. I'm not sure if it's the best live record they've done, though.
Listen to it and tell me if it's worth buying. I heard bits of it in a record store last week and thought it sounded pretty good.
Going from the intro and first verse of the first track; it is, very much so. I'll get back to you tomorrow with a more detailed take on it, though.

Happymeal 03-30-2005 09:07 PM

Polvo - Today's Active Lifestyles
The Decemberists - Picaresque
Agalloch - The Mantle
Choking Victim > Leftover Crack.
True story.

Bartender 03-30-2005 09:16 PM

Maybe so, but Leftover Crack seem to be a lot more easily available, which influences what I buy quite heavily. And Fuck World Trade is a good album regardless.

Bartender 03-30-2005 09:20 PM

Yeah (though I only have one bootleg :-/). The choice of material is pretty good though, and I can't fault the cover art at all.

asymm 03-30-2005 10:00 PM

Picked it up today:

Prefuse 73 - Surrounded By Silence

I don't like it, I actually regret buying it.

But a couple of other people I've talked to think it's great, so whatever, you might like it.

Little Man being Erased 03-31-2005 12:06 AM

Hmmmmm. Thanks for making my decision no easier. :)

malpractice9 03-31-2005 12:42 AM

I've listened through it a couple of times now, without skipping anything..as far as I can tell, he hasn't put a foot wrong throughout the whole thing. Listening to it further might reveal weaknesses in replay value, but first impressions are very good, though, if you like Sea Change Beck more than Odelay! Beck, you might be disappointed, I suppose. It's a lot closer to the hip hop-influenced, good-times-all-round thing he had going earlier on, than it is the singer-songwriter. And going by Tomahawk's reaction, it's possible that it's just bad, and I'm just initially misjudging it somehow.

The Ashtray Girl 03-31-2005 11:06 AM

^That's good enough for me

~puts it on the to-buy list~

Tomahawk 03-31-2005 11:52 AM

Digging:

They Might Be Giants
American Music Club
Afghan Whigs
Husker Du
Mercury Rev

I Like The Monks.

It's Monk Time.

Bartender 03-31-2005 09:55 PM

For now I'm listening to the B-52s self-titled, and enjoying it though I am, I think I may die from an overdose of stupid.

My friend gave me a TMBG c.d. and ****, they're pretty okay. Like the M.R. as well.
Lately I've been digging a lot of: The Libertines, The Strokes, The Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, The Clash, The Dead Kennedys, and The Kinks.

malpractice9 04-01-2005 01:09 AM

going to the store to buy :
stars : set yourself on fire
the walkmen : bows + arrows
the shins : oh, inverted world
the shins : chutes too narrow

my wallet is soon to be anorexic

wow, "the past and pending" by the shins is terribly incredible

You mean Field Recordings from the Sun? Did you mess up again (after the The Monks blunder), or is that some similarly titled release I'm not aware of?

But whatever, I just finished listening to Blue Cathedral, and they finally clicked with me. Greeeaat stuff. I'll probably spin it again later to celebrate the clickingness.

I've also been diggin' on GYBE lately. Lift Yr. Fists and Slow Riot.

Iai 04-01-2005 05:34 AM

I'm digging The Pixies today. I'm making CDs for my friends before we go to Reading, so that they know a bit about each band before they decide who to see. So I figured I'd indulge myself, too.

Tonight = Iron Maiden.

br3ad_man 04-01-2005 05:55 AM

I'm listening to The Killers. What fun.

Iai 04-01-2005 06:11 AM

Who, funnily enough, will appear at Reading right before The Pixies.

Luckily all my friends already have their album, so I won't need to copy that one for anybody.

br3ad_man 04-01-2005 06:14 AM

I hear they suck live.
