blueyxd 11-13-2005 05:59 AM

I remember recommending Anathema to you before... dunno if you listened or not
I've heard a couple of songs by cradle of filth and really like them, im wondering whats there best album to get? Thanks
I hevan't heard any of their really old stuff but from the albums I know of I'd say Midian or Lovecraft and Witchhearts (a best of album).

camelfarmer 11-13-2005 10:26 AM

I liked mogwai, good to listen to but not actually pay attention to you know.

The Cynic 11-13-2005 11:03 AM

I've been meaning to get into Death. Can anyone reccomend me some songs and some albums? Thanks.

I would probbably say Symbolic or Leprosy maybe.

Freezing Moon 11-13-2005 12:17 PM
Scream Bloody Gore is probably their best album for anyone who's never listened to them before. Quite possibly their best album, actually. Human is probably what I'd say after that. For songs I'd advise just getting your hands on Scream Bloody Gore and then going from there, to be honest.
I wouldn't say Scream Bloody Gore is the best intro to Death. Their best album, probably, but probably not the best introduction.

I'd say start off with Human because it's the middle point of their progressive and old-school stages.
Someone please tell me some bands to take a listen to. Anything you feel is a must listen to, keep in mind I dont like death metal and the likes. Im mostly into prog rock and soft rockish stuff, and a little metal. Examples are dredge and porcupine tree. I like coheed as well but this might be the wrong place to ask for similar bands.

Thanks.
New Katatonia
Tool
A Perfect Circle
Radiohead
Sigur Ros
. . .
I'm glad you found something; I tried to hit some different sounds.

edit: Wow, I just remembered this band. Unexpect http://www.unexpect.com I've only heard one song but it sounds like maybe something you would like.
http://www.unexpect.com/novae.mp3
Its not bad, there's a hell of a lot going on in there. I'll have to listen to it a lot to get anything out of it. Sorry I missed yer post, I was at Jethro Tull that night:thumb:

MAthiAS 11-13-2005 11:04 PM

What would be a good place to start for The Cure?

camelfarmer 11-14-2005 02:21 AM

What sorta music is Jethro Tull?

xizoesira 11-14-2005 02:30 AM
What sorta music is Jethro Tull?
Depends on the era.

Up through Aqualung he's blues/y. Thick as a Brick and a Passion Play are both excellent progressive albums. Songs From the Wood is really folky and lighthearted.

After that I really have no idea.

ChickenMcFicken 11-14-2005 12:00 PM

Its pretty much folk/blues prog. I think they got more prog as time went on, but xizoesira pretty much summed it up. Except for the he part. Ian Anderson is the front man. Jethro Tull was an British inventor in the agricultural revolution. I think he invented the seed dril.

Pre-thick they were pretty bluesy, then they got a bit more progressive, then pretty folkish (they already had a decent bit of folk in their sound) for Songs from the Wood. Then the 80s hit and I pretty much don't know. I think they got more folk and proggish, but I cant tell you for sure.

Guys I have came here before, but to no avail.

I like Metallica, Megadeth, System of a Down, some Dream Theater and some Trivium.

I like heavy music. I like fast music. I don't really like screamo all that much. I like intelligent music, not just generic songs with just like one or two riffs that don't even sound all that good. Can anyone help me out?

We'll if you like Dream Theater you might like Symphony X, Nevermore, Spiral Architect and Rush. Rush isn't really heavy, but very good prog rock.

Try some Slayer, Testament, Exodus, Pantera. They are very similar to Metallica and Megadeth.

You may also like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Hibria, Iced Earth (as G M ac07 mentioned) and Mastodon.

dUSK 11-15-2005 03:51 PM

Perhaps try some Iced Earth and some Symphony X.

MarkOsullivan 11-15-2005 04:50 PM

Hey guys I've recently got into Jefferson Airplane and I have lately become a really big Pink Floyd fan.

So I'm looking for some recommendations (songs not albums) that fall under the psychedelic category.

Cheers
What would be a good place to start for The Cure?
In my opinion, Disintegration.

Love Song, Lullaby, Pictures of You, and Fascination Street are my four favourite songs by "The Cure" and all of them are off of Disintegration.

King_Of_Terrors 11-15-2005 08:39 PM

Can someone recommend me some good Black Metal? I have Emperor, 1349, and Epheles.
Does anyone know of any good Goatheburg metal bands? I already know of In Flames, Opeth, and Hypocrisy.
Dark Tranquility (My personal favorite in this style)
At The Gates
Soilwork
Beyond The Embrace

PS:Opeth aren't Gothenburg metal BTW.:D

Apocalyptic Raids 11-15-2005 09:30 PM

Arch Enemy too.

blueyxd 11-15-2005 10:02 PM

I reckon Hollenthon would appeal to you as well. They aren't gothenburg, but some songs are quite melodic.
the songs Homage: Magni Nominis Umbra and Conquest Demise would be good choices

KeepTheNotesComing 11-15-2005 10:21 PM

can anyone recommend any melodic metalcore type music such as between the buried and me and the modahls
