fortunatly they both kick ***, but for rock and metal i definatly think the AA raw dry bell would be best

Looking for 2 cymbals.

I'm looking for a ride to acompany my 21" A Sweet Ride. Was considering a ride with a nice ping to it or possibaly a dark sounding ride that would acompany it well. (suggestions on both would be great)

Second is a splash or two I was considering getting one glassy sounding one and another one to match my other cymbals (A's + A Customs / K/Z hats). I'm thinking along the lines of fairly large splash's for a nice washy sound.

Would consider either Paiste or Zildjian. (Sorry just not a sabian fan).

saars 03-06-2006 06:11 PM

So this is my plan on cymbals when I get a set:

16" Zildjian A Custom Projection Crash
17" Sabian AAX Dark Crash
14" A Zildjian New Beats
10" A Ziljdian Splash*
10" Sabian AA Splash
18" Sabian HHX Stage Crash
21" A Zildjian Sweet Ride*
18" Wuhan China

*I already have this particular cymbal.

So, any thing I should change? The chinas I've tried out at GC (oriental china trash, a custom china, paragon china) are too trashy for my taste. I don't know if the three crashes will fit in with each other, please tell me if they will or not. CC please, nothing ****ty.

What kind of chick do you want with your hats? Because if you want a really nice one I recommend K mastersounds....

saars 03-06-2006 07:06 PM

I want hats that have very loud chick and dark, but not too dark. Also, I really don't want anything wayy expensive. I just checked the k mastersounds and their 310 USD. Yes, I will check ebay too.:)

EDIT: are there anything in sabian that match the k hats? I sure hope it'd be a lot cheaper...

22" K Heavy Ride and 10" A Splash

As for the second cymbal, I would get a 12" A Custom for a washy, glassy sound, and a 10" A for a nice sharp cut.

They are so similar you might as well get 2 As. Aside from that... there's no cymbal I particularly dislike in the bunch.

saars 03-06-2006 08:30 PM

So, what splash would sound well with the a splash?

playwithfire 03-06-2006 08:58 PM

A Custom would be glassier, AAX would be sharper... K would be darker... I would probably go with either the 10" K, or a different sized A.

saars 03-06-2006 11:35 PM

hmm... I gotta try these splashes out at my local store... thanks for the opinion. Anyone else agree or disagree to my list of to-buy cymbals?

Inkstar 03-07-2006 07:11 AM

What's a good quality Sabian set (or seperates) I can get which will be 'heavy duty', but doesn't cost too much? I play alot of metal and have a double pedal, so I definitely don't play light.

I'm not sure of sabian...Look at the other zildjian mastersounds,A, A customs, ect..They may be cheaper than the K's

AA and AAX would definatly work u can get sets of both, or u could just get like the AAXplosion crash pack, and like maybe AAX stage hats and the AA raw dry bell ride

Hi guys
I'm looking for a ride with much stick definition and little audible wash.
I've heard Mike Portnoy's HH rock ride 22" and I think it sounds absolutely amazing. I've never heard it live though, and since no-one has it in store here in Norway i've gotta special-order it to get it..
What other rides do you recommend?

Does anyone here have a K Custom ride or K custom dark ride? How are they? I want to know what other people think, because I don't trust MF reviews.

styler 03-07-2006 07:34 PM

ive got a 20" K custom ride. lots of ping. a good bit of wash. it could live with being a little louder with a more piercing bell. beautiful ride though.

Inkstar 03-08-2006 03:55 AM

Thanks HeLLmO and playwithfire! I'll start looking into those AA and AAX.
