If your gonna learn Echoes you should learn Shine On first, its a good place to start if you might have trouble learning long songs.

About the top 100 guitarists poll, I doubt Gilmour will win, even though he should. I really can't decide on who will win, but I'm guessing the top 10 will go like this

Vai
Petrucci
Page
Gilmour
Morello
Hammett
McLaughlin
Adam Jones
Satch
Hendrix

Actually, most of those I just want to be on there, but hammett and Petrucci...I don't think they belong there, but they will be there in the end...

Madey, you like Pink Floyd too?

Rage Against the Machine, Tool, and Pink Floyd? <3

DeusExMachina 03-13-2005 10:46 PM

Hahaha. I'd like Vai to be top 10, because I really like his playing, but thats about it for speed metal guitar for me.

Hey Riva how long did it take you to count all the nominations? (when you did the album polls)

Riva 03-14-2005 12:44 AM

Answered you in the Problems thread. :)

DeusExMachina 03-14-2005 02:14 PM

I got a new neck pickup put in my guitar recently, it's pure sex. Unbelievably warm tone. It has inspired me to learn Echoes. Don't know why, but it has. I'll probably give up after about a week because my attention span isn't too great... but, we'll see.

I already know SOYCD 1-5. Unless you were talking to madey...

Deus, what kind of guitar do you have and what kind of pickup did you get? I've been really interested in tone and pickups lately, so I might replace one soon. I love the neck pickup. :thumb:

Ive been starting to get into ebay recently...i have over $1000 of stuff to sell (no, im not exaturating), and ebay might be the place. With the money i plan to pickup, i want to invest alot, or all of it into drums, but i do want to put some into my guitar.

I was sort of leaning effects, but their in my amp already - and im getting a footswitch at the end of march to have control over that too. Could somebody clarify what pickups are good compared to bad? I have never learned anything about pickups over the years...except my neck and middle ones suck harder *** then all others

I got my guitar used. It was a standard mexi-strat, but the previous owner put Texas Specials in all the pickup spots, so it has good tone as opposed to shitty stock fender tone. However, I replaced the neck with a Lindy Fralin blues special. It's really awesome. I think I'm going to get a steel pole 43 with a base plate for my bridge soon. Lindy Fralin makes amazing pickups.

DeusExMachina 03-14-2005 05:44 PM

Well, I didn't replace anything except the pickup. I got the job done for free, and the pickup itself cost me about 60 dollars.

English?

pigonthewing82 03-14-2005 07:43 PM

Yea I have to make my guitar more original it looks just like Gilmour's, with the mirror pick guard and everything, I didn't mean to do it that way, I didn't know what his guitar looked like when I bought mine.

Love Pink Floyd in the studio, and I also have Live in Pompeii. Any other good live albums of theirs you guys could point me to?

Purple Floyd 03-15-2005 08:13 PM
I've got PULSE which is a really good album...they've got the whole of DSOTM on there, as well as songs from Wish You Were Here, The Wall, and even Astronomy Domine from the Syd era. Then there's the best songs from A Momentary Lapse Of Reason and The Division Bell, which I greatly prefer live than on the album. It's also got a fair bit of historical value, being the recording of their last ever gig. :(
Does the album have the same playlist as the movie? Or are they two different concert dates?

Is There Anybody Out There: The Wall Live

Not for the casual fan, but Ummagumma

For the ultimate Pink Floyd live expirence look for the Video Anthology volume 1 if you like Syd, and the Video Anthology Three for latter Floyd songs. Anthology Two is only ok, but you should be able to find at least one of those in the dvd section of ebay.

I was disspointed with Astronomy Domine off of Pulse. That has always been a jam song, but they no jamming on Pulse.

Blues special. I ordered a steel pole 43 for the bridge, but he accidentally sent me the blues special for the neck. I thought about returning it and getting the right one, but I figured I could use a new neck pickup too. I definitely don't regret the choice, 1st setting is now my favorite pickup setting, because the tone is really great. Reaaaaally warm.

For live Pink Floyd, I definitely recommend The Wall Live.

So me and Bartender were talking on msn about music and whatnot, and I asked him if he liked Pink Floyd. He responded with something like 'Yeah, they're ok.' Then I displayed my fanboyism by saying something along the lines of 'I find them to be one of the sweetest bands of all time.' (It wasn't that lame, but you get the idea) He responded with 'I just don't see what is so special about them. What do you see in them that makes them so beautiful?' This question may sound simple, but I can't figure out what it is that makes Floyd so great. What do you guys think it it?

Well one of the things is they kept on evolving through out their whole existance, so it kept it interesting. Waters is brillent at writing concept albums. They arn't afraid to put a song or two on a cd thats over ten min long, whitch also proves their strength as a great jam band. Gilmour provides a sound that can only be found in Pink Floyd. The whole Syd thing adds the the mystery of the band and makes their history very interesting to learn. The fact that the whole band are brillent in their own way, and all work so well together is a big role in it. They provide the listener with concepts that will keep you thinking long after the song is over (and I'm not just talking about the lyrics). They also have songs like Wish You Were Here thats nice to listen to if you want to relax, and songs like One of These Days or Another Brick in the Wall part 2 that are fast and pump you up. Lets just face it they are one of the best bands to listen to when your stoned. They are also one of the few bands to pull of a sucessful rock oprea, and to preform that oprea live, then have it expand to a movie and Brodway. They just all around are amazing.

Thats all I have to say about that.

magicbus 03-16-2005 08:14 PM

I like how the Floyd's music is so original and mystical. It basically takes you to another place when you're listening, and everything feels good, because the music is just so different and amazing. The music sparks all kinds of emotions, and you can really feel it. Its just incredible to listen to.
