Onoes, McDonalds quotes.

Dammit, now I have a serious craving for a double cheeseburger, no pickle no onions, a large sprite, and 3 chocolate chip cookies.

Oh, right :)
I suppose it could be. You might call it similar to Zappa or Mahavishnu Orchestra?
I was reminded a little of Zappa by that first song you posted, yeah.

Did you already download all of it?

Yeah only the first 3 songs worked though.

Dr. Jake Destructo 03-12-2005 08:57 PM

I'm sorry, but it's true! I love McDonalds, and even if they have some sanitary issues or whatever was shown on Supersize Me, I still like their food. I'd rather just enjoy the food than know that it was from some kind of diseased cow. (Perhaps one of my own  )

I don't like you sometimes either. O:^)

I've just been reading an article about falun gong, a "religion" which started in China a dozen or so years ago. It's going on about the various physical exercises, spirituality, and advocation of benevolence, tolerance, etc, that make up falun gong, and I'm thinking "okay, seems like a decent enough idea to have..", as it's talking about them in a perfectly sane way.

Then this paragraph ambushed me;
Li Hongzhi also teaches that aliens from other planets have invaded the human race and brought chaos to life on earth. Li believes aliens manipulate humans to have wars and conflicts and to be dependent on technology. He has said that aliens invented modern machinery and cloning, and that their eventual goal is to completely replace human beings.
Is this Hongzhi a reliable source?

Jom 03-12-2005 09:26 PM

That's a twisted article, Bartender, albeit a bit interesting of a read.

I'm doing alright, thanks. Once I get back to uni, I'll probably be ornery and inconsolable until I get over it :p

If Lucas and Ray are still around (and anyone else that was here at 2 in the morning discussing personal deals), I just wanted to say thanks again for reading.

 , good stuff. Most excitement of my day was buying the new BLS album, very good music.

By the way, if anyone's interested, I opened up this thread's AIM chat. If no one comes in after a few minutes, I'll just shut it down and just have this thread run its course.

He founded falun gong in 1992.

Well he has about 100 million "followers" (they're not really followers, they just practice the falun gong). Mostly in China.

He lives in America though; had to basically flee for his life sometime in the 90s.

Dr. Jake Destructo 03-12-2005 09:33 PM

How big of a religion is it? As far as population, that is.

Sop, DN

EDIT: Never mind, Tender. :p Same post time.

Chat was unsuccessful. It needs a Ramsey or something.

Two times ago, we had eleven people in it, and that was a lot of fun. Any time we have five or less, it never really runs that smoothly.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Chinese government got him first. They've got it into their heads that the falun dafa (those who practice the falun gong) are a dangerous subversive group, so they've been cracking down on them quite harshly :-/

Commies.

How did you stumble upon this stuff?

So, you said it wasn't really a religion..Is it kind of like Buddhism, in the sense that it is more of a lifestyle than a religion or what?

Jom 03-12-2005 09:53 PM

Kombucha,

Go here and get this: AOL Instant Messenger 5.2.3292.

Just download that, and you'll be prompted for updates once in awhile, but 5.2.3292 is the one I use because it doesn't have a lot of the bells and whistles, really.

Dr. Jake Destructo 03-12-2005 09:59 PM

Thank you sir. I just picked the one that you said. 5.2.3292, because they all seem very foreign to me...Meh.

Dr. Jake Destructo 03-12-2005 10:08 PM

Wierd MSNIM story that just happened:

Me and Tender were talking on msn, and I asked him about why plexiglass is such a 'feared' MXer (You know what I'm talking about AH) and then once I said 'pl exi' my internet got disconnected. I just chalked it up as an interesting fluke, then I signed back on, we continued our conversation, and I got signed out again when Bartender said his name again.

Wierdness++

For those of you who don't know, Plexiglass is a former mod who got demodded for hacking someone's account. Anyways, he's just very good at using computers, and it was just kind of wierd that my computer started freaking out when I mentioned his name.

EDIT: DN, I'd do basically the same thing I do in this thread.

As far as I can tell, it's an elaborated exercise/meditation program. The falun gong itself is a program of five sets movements (ranging from physical to meditation) designed to heighten physical well-being, spirituality, and moral awareness. The physical movements are to rotate the falun, a ball of energy located somewhere in the lower abdomen. Falun gong = the practice (and has come to mean the movement in general), falun dafa = the followers themselves.

I say it's not a religion because it's not intended as one; it says nothing about a deity or the lack of one, no practice throughout life, no concrete beliefs as such. Li himself is not worshipped in any way (though he's shown respect), and maintains that it's just a system for living and for physical and spiritual improvement, so taking part in the falun gong doesn't prevent you being a member of other religions. It's a totally different thing to Buddhism, though.

Well, with Ramsey going at 1000bpm when it comes to spam, there's no time to do anything I do in here.

Dr. Jake Destructo 03-12-2005 10:18 PM

Hey Bartender- My msn is totally broke, So...yeah. It won't even let me reopen it now. At least I have mx still.
