I've heard that they're pretty good live, unfortunately i've never been able to go to any shows:upset: Is watching live vids of them even compare to actually being there?
hell no...it's 1000 times better being there...I've seen them everytime they been on the west coast area around Washington and a few time in California since 1990 and I'm still going back to see them...I went to the concert were the Stone were the main act and I think I was the only 'tallica fan there...'tallica seem bored with the crowd...unlike the shows where they do the head lining...that is just insane

Ohh, that's like saying "does watching someone drink beer compare to driking it?"

Doctor Night 12-13-2005 10:43 AM
Simply put no other guitarist can down pick as fast as James, i just don't understand how he down picks Master of puppets at that speed
just play with Upstrokes.
Thats how I learn it.

Jev 12-13-2005 10:50 AM

I learn it with upstorkes. The intro is much easier alt picked.

Doctor Night 12-13-2005 11:09 AM

Yeh, I got my upstrokes and downstrokes pretty much the same. It took ages.

BLS_Infernus 12-13-2005 12:41 PM

upstrokes? Metallica plays downstrokes

I've been to a few Metallica concerts and they are the best live preformance I've ever seen

Chris2401 12-13-2005 03:21 PM
No problem i don't want to blind you saying that they are the best band or saying that they completely suck.
Metallica arent the greatest band of all time, and they do have a ****ty drummer, but theyre music just kick ***!especially theyre lyrics, james is a rare song-writer.Theyre probably one of the biggest bands still going today.:chug: cheers to metallica

Jev 12-13-2005 03:56 PM
upstrokes? Metallica plays downstrokes
Haha. Not all the time. It's humanly impossbile to play some Metallica songs without alt. picking.

BLS_Infernus 12-13-2005 08:23 PM

well 'Tallica doesn't down pick 24/7...there is prove of that on the St. Anger DVD that came with the cd

Magero666 12-13-2005 09:42 PM

yea, battery is imposible to down pick. I used to only down pick, but after Master of Puppets, my arm was to fukin tired to keep playing. Sorry to change subject, but i recently downloaded (from metallicalive.com) a bass solo, by jason, based on orion its in the vault, from the 1994 show. id love to play it, but i cant find a tab any where and i dont no any one who can tab by ear. any one who knows how to play it, or where i can find a tab for it, id really appreciate.

mr black 12-13-2005 10:52 PM

whoa the thought of up stroking MOP is daunting to me haha, Yeah nah my point wasn't 'how do you downpick it' i just find it amazing that even after 30+ years behind a guitar he still downpicks speedy songs, and yeah Battery, Blackened, Hit the lights etc, are impossible to downpick...

Apocalyptic Raids 12-13-2005 10:59 PM

If you think that galloping verse riff in Battery is downpicked then you need your ears checked...

Sph 12-13-2005 11:42 PM

Err, yeah... Battery downpicked?! Where'd some of you get that idea?

PepsiMetal 12-14-2005 12:24 AM

What does galloping mean in this case? Is it the chuggy chuggy part or what?

Jev 12-14-2005 07:24 AM

it's the palm muted open strings that sound like horses galloping.

iluvkirkhammett 12-14-2005 07:33 AM

They palm mute a hell of a lot don't they?

Apocalyptic Raids 12-14-2005 07:37 AM

Yes.

By galloping I mean the triplets on the palm muted e string in the verse riff.

mr black 12-15-2005 07:40 AM

God this site is running slowwwwww, the galloping part for any n00b's out there is the riff situated at 1.07 in the studio version of 'Battery'.

Jev 12-15-2005 10:40 AM

Are gallops triplets? I always thought they were 2 16ths followed by an 8th over and over.

timmySmi 12-15-2005 12:27 PM
They palm mute a hell of a lot don't they?
Oh hell yeah especially On Load & Reload.

Doctor Night 12-15-2005 12:30 PM

Galloping is dominated heavily by Iron Maiden.

Jev 12-15-2005 01:08 PM
Galloping is dominated heavily by Iron Maiden.
Is there any maiden songs without galloping? :smash:

PepsiMetal 12-15-2005 01:49 PM
Galloping is dominated heavily by Iron Maiden.
What isn't dominated by Maiden? :p

MRDuCran 12-15-2005 03:11 PM
Are gallops triplets? I always thought they were 2 16ths followed by an 8th over and over.
You're correct. I know someone who calls them triplets because they're grouped in 3's but refuses to accept he's wrong. Triplets are of course 3 notes played evenly.
I sometime's call them triples or just gallop.

Magero666 12-15-2005 09:01 PM

I neva really cared to think about it:confused: . im a bass player so i dont play the same as the guitar. :thumb: whoa, im watching the san diego live **** concert. kirks solo is fukin mad. but i wanna know wat deep purple song they play in this solo. again i cant find the tabs for it any where, cause i dont know wat song it is. any one know?

heavy metal kid 12-15-2005 09:03 PM

Magero666 12-15-2005 09:07 PM

heavy metal kid 12-15-2005 09:08 PM

That's hard to find, i think it doesn't exist a tab for that.

Magero666 12-15-2005 09:39 PM

Britton 12-15-2005 10:01 PM
