I like Sympathy for the Devil. But, it's not amazing. And the guitar solo is definitely meh. It's alright, fun to listen to, but nothing special.
However, it does get props for being the song that got me into the Rolling Stones. |
Gimme Shelter > Wild Horses. C'mon seriously...
|
Gimme Shelter
You Can't Always Get What You Want Sympathy for the Devil I'd say those are my three favourites, although there are like a hundred other songs tied for fourth place. |
Gimme Shelter > Wild Horses. C'mon seriously...
No way. Gimme Shelter is catchy, but I don't see it as being particularly unique. Wild Horses is unique. It's absolutely amazing. |
Wild Horses or Angie? Both similar songs, what do you guys think?
I'm guessing you all like Wild Horses better, I think I probably do too, but Angie might have Jagger's best singing ever. |
Unique? I don't listen to songs for uniqueness I listen for the sound and it is very catchy thats probably why I like it the most. The back-up singers are just so amazing sounding; but not to get me wrong I listen to Wild Horses every day in a little like "meditation" its such a peaceful song.
I had She's a Rainbow stuck in my head all day, kinda annoying. |
Ive never heard wild horses, but i never was a big fan of the stones,i just like a couple songs here and there.
|
I prefer Wild Horses to Angie, but Angie is also awesome. And, Beast of Burden is great too.
To Jacaranda, I also listen to songs for enjoyment, I'm not a musical elitist who refuses to listen to something because it's not completely original. However, catchiness lasts only so long. If a song is catchy but that's it, it loses it's appeal after enough listens. Just, overall, I think that Wild Horses is a much more beautiful song. |
No way. Gimme Shelter is catchy, but I don't see it as being particularly unique. Wild Horses is unique. It's absolutely amazing.
What the hell? "Wild Horses" is a country/country-rock ballad with a guitar solo thrown in to remind you that you're listening to the Stones. It's a good song, but it's hardly unique. I don't really like "Angie", either...the only song that I really like off that album (Goat's Head Soup) is "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)"
I had She's a Rainbow stuck in my head all day, kinda annoying.
I hate that album...a real misstep for the Stones. |
My favourite Stones album is actually Their Satanic Majesties Request. It doesn't have their best songs, but it's one of the few albums of theirs that I really love all the songs on. Some of their albums have like their best songs, but then a couple songs I don't really enjoy so it's hard to make a decision.

Do we ever agree on anything? |
What the hell?

I guess I'm ignorant of country/country-rock ballads. But not many songs come to mind for me when I think of songs similar to Wild Horses. |
Do we ever agree on anything?
I was just thinking that. We agree on some things, I think. Let's just agree to disagree! (god thats a lame term) edit- and I see nothing unique, different, special etc about Wild Horses. It's just a plain good song. The Stones never did anything really different or groundbreaking from album to album, they just wrote good songs. (AC/DC took that to the extreme) |
Do we ever agree on anything?
Most of us like music, so it's very unlikely you'd agree with us about anything. Joke. |
The Stones were unique for their time, as in pushing the limit on censorship. I've already ranted bout that though.
My 2nd favorite Stones song is Happy I love Keiths voice, before he started using herion and drinking and smoking alot and killed it. I like every Stones album besides Bridges to Babylon. |
I think I'm the only one here who really likes Some Girls. I think it's on par with Exile, Let It Bleed, and Sticky Fingers. It's got more of a concept to it than most Stones albums. Those 4 all get 5/5 from me.

I guess we will have to.
edit- and I see nothing unique, different, special etc about Wild Horses. It's just a plain good song. The Stones never did anything really different or groundbreaking from album to album, they just wrote good songs. (AC/DC took that to the extreme)
The difference: The Rolling Stones were actually good and interesting.
I think I'm the only one here who really likes Some Girls. Those 4 all get 5/5 from me.
I've warmed up to Some Girls, but it's definitely not on par with their elite material. It's defintely behind Let It Bleed, Exile, Beggars Banquet, and Sticky Fingers and it ranks along with Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out, Aftermath, and Out Of Our Heads, ahead of most of their other work. |
I heard that the new Clapton cd blows, but the new Stones cd is good. USA today compared it Exile
I can't imagine it being that good, but I'l check it out.
Some a-hole at my gym was playing their new CD and I didn't like it at all. I think their so far past their prime it's time to call it quits. If they could perform the songs on their new CD and have them sound remotely like they do then I'd be surprised. |
Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out,
Is that their best live cd? I have to say that I don't have anything live by the "greatest live band in the world" None of their live cd's really seem to get great reviews so I'm not sure which one to get. |
Don't get the new Rolling Stones CD. I have no idea where the critics are getting this idea that it's any good from, but I can only assume that they're comparing it to their last few releases, all of which have been dreadful. There's two good songs on it, and beyond that, it's the same as their post-1970something releases, i.e inconsistent, and mediocre at best. I'll review it soon for sputnik, probably. Sweet Neo Con is a song that they should be genuinely embarassed about releasing...it makes Billie Joe Armstrong look like a coherent political statesman, and that's never a good thing. My favourite Stones album is probably Exile On Main Street, although my favourite songs are all spread out over quite a lot of albums.
I'll follow your advice. I trust your advice more than USA Today. Besides, the only song I've heard off of it, Oh If Not For You Again (or something like that) was pretty terrible IMO. |
kiss sucks to begin with. who cares whether they're dead or not. they are still better 99% of contemperary music. and many of those artists are coming out with new material. Eric Clapton has released two or three albums in the past couple of years. all of them were quite good. The Yardbirds had a great album after a 20 something year hiatus. the Eagles are back together. Lynyrd Skynyrd put out a new album. Led Zeppelin is releasing live footage for the first time. so maybe it isn't so futile. and don't post here to flame the music the thread is dedicated to. geez
I agree completely it is very hypocritical going into a thread and flaming music that everybody else in the thread loves kudos to you mate :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: |

All the Canadians are/were eating most likely. Who here writes their own music? I'm just bored and curious. |
*bumpity bump bump*
Out of curiousity, what's everyone's favorite song by Cream & The Who? For me: The Who: The Acid Queen Cream: Badge
All the Canadians are/were eating most likely. I've decided to only wait until I get a really good idea, then write it down. |
I sometimes try to write music.
The Who-Something off Live at Leeds Cream-White Room? Croosroads? Spoonful(live)? |

I find that too, about songwriting. Great lyric lines/song themes always jump out at me, and usually if I'm lucky I can find a way to make a song out of it. Sort of like Ringo saying the words "it's been a hard days night" and it turning into a good song....except only about 5 percent of my songs work out. And I always come up with my best riffs/lines when I'm laying in bed about to fall asleep, and usually I'm too lazy to get up and figure it out on the guitar...so I just forget them. That happened last night. |
The Who- Won't Get Fooled Again, Baba O'Reily, or Pinball Wizard
Cream- White Room, Badge, or Crossroads. I had to do 3 each. Writing music is fucking hard. I've tried, but so far I can only write shit. George Harrison started out writing shit though, and he became one of the greatest songwriters ever IMO. |
The Who-Pinball Wizard , and pretty much all of tommy
Cream-White room |
i feel liek such a dumb *** for asking this but whats that who song that they play on the simpsosn i forget the name of it and i wanna download it????

I believe it's "Won't Get Fooled Again." |
AHEM, important music news I heard on the radio and wrote down so I could tell you guys:
Cream The Cream Reunion shows in London will be released on DVD and CD, I didn't get the dates. Cream is scheduled to play 3 reunion shows at Madison Square Garden (NYC) on October 24, 25, and 26. Tickets go on sale on September 11th for American Express owners, 19th for the general public. Pink Floyd The Live 8 DVD will be released on November 8. Pink Floyd is one of the few bands who's entire set will be shown on the DVD. They're also showing footage of the Floyd rehearsing. Waters said the Live 8 performance was better than good, and it went very peacefully, without fighting. He also said they aren't planning on a reunion tour, but would be willing to do more reunion shows if for a good cause (political cause or charity). He also said this would give them an oppurtunity to play DSOTM in it's entirety live again. Fingers crossed :thumb: This was all on my local classic rock station, so it should all be pretty reliable. |

Gilmour has always been a huge charity guy. I don't think I'll buy the Live 8 DVD, I already have Floyd's set ripped onto my computer. There were a bunch of crappy bands, so it's probably not worth what it will cost. I'm definitely looking into Cream tickets. |
