The Mescaleros are awesome, and I heard some live stuff Joe did with the Pouges. It was good.

RIP Ian Curtis 08-18-2005 11:57 AM

hate to bring up cut the crap but what makes it so awful?

guns_of_brixton 08-18-2005 11:59 AM

Bernie Rhodes wrote some of it, there was no Mick or Topper, and Joe wasn't Joe for that period in time.

This Is England is pretty good though, I've read.

RIP Ian Curtis 08-18-2005 12:01 PM

oh that's right, they got rid of Mick Jones for that one didn't they. How long did Tory Crimes/Terry Chimes last in the band?

Coma_Girl 08-18-2005 12:05 PM

The Mescaleros are almost as great as The Clash.

Sean: I also loved Greatness From Garageland a lot. And the chapter called Here's Joe Strummer. The interview with Joe in Clash Of The Titan is good too (when the journalists at the party ask him where he got his shirt  )

the lamborghini guy

RIP Ian Curtis 08-18-2005 12:07 PM

I've been playing/listening to punk in some form since i was about 13, but i've only just started to dig the clash. In the past all their idealistic stuff kinda turned me off. But theres some **** fine music under all the idealism

RIP Ian Curtis 08-18-2005 12:08 PM

jesus h christ. I can say crap and whore but i can't say d amn

guns_of_brixton 08-18-2005 01:23 PM

Terry recorded the first album, and then did some touring for Combat Rock after Topper was gone.

CombatRock 08-18-2005 03:55 PM
the lamborghini guy
I didnt notice it was you, post here more andy!

To IAN (or whatever) what dont you like about there idealism?

guns_of_brixton 08-18-2005 06:49 PM

I noticed that alot of the tracks on From Here to Eternity are from a show the Clash did at Bond's in NYC, which is a really good bootleg.

CombatRock 08-18-2005 07:27 PM

From here to enternity is a bootlegg?

RIP Ian Curtis 08-18-2005 10:38 PM

I'm just not an idealist. I don't particularly like getting preached at by any kind of idealist.

guns_of_brixton 08-18-2005 10:54 PM
From here to enternity is a bootlegg?
No, but Live at Bond's is, and that is were alot of Eternity's tracks come from.

Coma_Girl 08-18-2005 11:14 PM

I bought from here to eternity and it's really good.
and I love their idealism.

and I love that too:
"At one point he remembers his flatmate (Joe) returning from a few weeks away, bursting through the front door and declaring ecstatically 'I've found God!' before disappearing into his bedroom for a few days never to mention the incident again. Another time, Joe gave mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to a drowned mouse, which had been lured into a trap consisting of a cheese baited ruler and a bucket of water."

oh yeah, and I think I forgot to tell you guys how I talked about Joe with Tim Armstrong. I'm awesome.

RIP Ian Curtis 08-18-2005 11:21 PM

yes you are.

This Is England is awesome, I'd even compare it to Washington Bullets or mabye even White Man In Hammersmith(mabye not that far).

Anyway, here it is, don't be put off by the strange percussion at the start.

Edit:  If I just read you wrong and you really have heard This Is England, you'd be pretty pi'ssed off, so sorry.

guns_of_brixton 08-19-2005 09:24 AM

Oh, I've heard it but it isn't on my computer. Thanks. :thumb:

RIP Ian Curtis 08-19-2005 10:14 AM

so, you're stuck on an island with five clash songs
what are they?

guns_of_brixton 08-19-2005 10:18 AM

Death or Glory
I'm So Bored With the USA
Magnificent Seven
Complete Control
White Man.

That was pretty hard.

RIP Ian Curtis 08-19-2005 10:24 AM

well being a total clash noob...

London's Burning
Janie Jones (the first clash song I ever heard, on the 24 hour party people soundtrack)
1977
White Riot
and Career Oppurtunities

guns_of_brixton 08-19-2005 10:27 AM

So you only own their first album?

RIP Ian Curtis 08-19-2005 10:29 AM

I've got a bunch of mp3s. I don't know any albums, I just listed what I liked. I'm not big on some of the more synthy stuff like "lost in a supermarket" or "rock the casbah". I don't mind "Police On My Back", that sounds like it came off a later album. their cover of I Fought The Law also appeals to me.

guns_of_brixton 08-19-2005 10:38 AM

The Clash > Career Ops, White Riot, Complete Control, London's Burning
Give 'em Enough Rope > Safe European Home, Tommy Gun, Guns on the Roof
London Calling > Rudie Can't Fail, Death or Glory, Lost In the Supermarket, Guns of Brixton
Sandinista! > Police on my Back, Mag 7, Junco Partner, The Leader
Combat Rock > Rock the Casbah, Straight to Hell, Know Your Rights, Should I Stay?

RIP Ian Curtis 08-19-2005 10:47 AM

oh. So I picked songs all of the first album. what a faux paus *embarassed*

guns_of_brixton 08-19-2005 11:32 AM

Nothing wrong with that, it's a great album.

RIP Ian Curtis 08-19-2005 11:46 AM

indeed it is. apparently it's called The Good, The Bad and The Ugly sometimes? I've only ever seen it called "The Clash" but then again their whole catalogue got confused in importation no?

guns_of_brixton 08-19-2005 11:47 AM

Hmmm... I've never heard it called that... but it is the biggest selling import of all time.

RIP Ian Curtis 08-19-2005 11:49 AM

is it? cool.

Strummerville 08-19-2005 04:10 PM

I wondered if there were any fans of Clash's 'Broadway'. The one on Sandanista, I really like it, it's a bit unusual but great nethertheless.

Strummerville 08-19-2005 04:12 PM

Also, RIP Ian Curtis, I'm assuming you're a Joy Division fan. I'm just getting into them and would like to know a full list of their albums. and which are the best.

Sorry for going off topic boys and girls!

CombatRock 08-19-2005 05:26 PM
so, you're stuck on an island with five clash songs
what are they?
Guns of Brixton
Clampdown
Whats my Name
Straight to Hell
Stay Free

only at the moment though.

Mannik 08-19-2005 07:05 PM
so, you're stuck on an island with five clash songs
what are they?
I chose the songs that would fit an island setting(supposing it is the typical tropical island).

Let's Go Crazy
Washington Bullets
White Man In Hammersmith
Revolution Rock(how cool would it be just to lay under the shade of a palm tree and listen to this song?)
Safe European Home

Rise Me Up 08-19-2005 09:12 PM

Hey,did you guys hear about the Clash movie they're making and having that guy from The Used play Joe?

CombatRock 08-20-2005 12:00 AM

What!

Coma_Girl 08-20-2005 01:22 PM
so, you're stuck on an island with five clash songs
