Have a Cigar is underrated, but is a very good song indeed.

Any Colour You Like is also somewhat underrated, when being compared to some of DSOTM's other tracks. The keyboard solo is amazing, and the guitar solo is the most physcadelic noodling i've ever heard come out of a guitar. Try listening to it in a pitch black room high, and boy will that song take you on a journey.

Interstellar Overdrive takes you on quite a journey.

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-23-2005 11:32 PM
Hey You and Is There Anybody Out There really do it for me, whatever it is. I love those two tracks, those are the high point of The Wall for me.
"The worms ate into his brain"

That's your favorite part on the entire album, amirite? :)

I agree with Shazzam about Any Colour you Like. Does anyone know what kind of effect Gilmour uses?

Yes, yes you are. It's intensely epic to me for some reason.

/goes to listen to it.

Otherside 04-23-2005 11:34 PM

I like Hey You alot because, mainly, of the solo. It's fun to play on guitar too :p

For the first month or so that I listened to Pink Floyd Have a Cigar was my favorite song.

I was talking to Jake.

Jake: I think a flanger will do

lunch998 04-23-2005 11:44 PM
Piper of the Gates of Dawn and "Intersteller Overdrive".
Piper actually seems to be becoming one of their more popular albums.

So why did you quote me?

/confused.

magicbus 04-23-2005 11:45 PM

OBC or Saucerful of Secrets for most underrated album. Any Colour You Like for underrated song.

I never really saw Have A Cigar as underrated, just brilliant. It never occured to me that other people might not recognize this.

Otherside 04-23-2005 11:45 PM

Well, yea, but that still has no effect on this discussion.

Do it. That album rules. Like a lot.

Probably my favorite

I, with respect, disagree.

I know I go out on a limb when I say that but nothing has quite touched me like PATGOD. I think the songwriting is way more creative, influncial and so trippy and psychedelic than ANY of their post Syd matrial.

I can agree with him being the most psychedelic, but I think Roger took songwriting much farther than Syd ever did.

ATM 04-24-2005 12:15 PM

So which songs should I get by Syd Barrett? I have only heard:

Long Gone
Scream Thy Last Scream
Vegtable Man

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-24-2005 12:23 PM

123 to what Gilmour said. PATGOD is one crazy album, and probably their most psychadelic release, but after the untimely demise of Barret from Pink Floyd, their music took on a much deeper meaning. If Syd had stayed in the band, I doubt they could have made such an impact on the music industry.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 04-24-2005 12:24 PM

Just get the album Piper of the Gates of Dawn or if you just want one song get "Intersteller Overdrive" but trust me the album is awsome.

If you want some solo go for "Octopus".

Kingofdudes 04-24-2005 12:24 PM
I, with respect, disagree.
So you say that Waters can never touch Syd and his influence? I say Roger has had a gigantic influence on rock. Even though he wasnt the first to make concept albums, he mastered the process of it. DSotM and The Wall are both very influential albums. Many modern artists have used those albums as inspiration for their own music. Lyrically, Animals is brilliant, and Roger's most creative. Waters takes George Orwell's story of a communist society and applies it to music.

I dont see how you can say Syd has had a bigger influence than Roger. Maybe in the 60's/70's psychedelic scene, but not today, save a few cult fans.

ATM 04-24-2005 12:24 PM

Cool, thanks man. Right now I am listening to the masterpiece, Dogs

Kingofdudes 04-24-2005 12:28 PM

BTW, I am not bashing Syd.

I completly disagree but opinions....meh (*_*)

lunch998 04-24-2005 12:37 PM

I like PATGOD, but I think Syd is becoming somewhat overrated. He was a great songwriter, but Pink Floyd really took shape when they got Gilmour playing better guitar parts than Syd ever could. We can't do anything but speculate on what would have happened to the band had Syd stayed with them, but I think it's quite possible they would have died out along with loads of other late 60's psychedelic bands.

You are probably right.

I am glad things worked out the way they did, because the music they created is incredible.

slowhand 04-24-2005 12:50 PM

I guess everything just works out for the best. Dave is obviously a better guitarist than Syd. Imagine Syd playing the solo to Echoes or even to something like Comfortably Numb. It just wouldn't be the same.

I agree but, I think had Syd been with Pink Floyd as long as Waters, then Syd would of had a bigger influence than Waters does. Syd just had a more distinct sound even though he wasn't as talented as a songwriter.

Grant 04-24-2005 04:48 PM

Could someone post the live version of Interstellar Overdrive? It's been ages since I've heard it last.
