PDWAB 03-31-2006 02:04 AM

Psh I can pull seniority on like half the mods here.

Also have you ever noticed how DBJ and I registered the same month? March 2002 was the month of POWER.

Permanent Solution 03-31-2006 02:05 AM

ANd good drummers.

PDWAB 03-31-2006 02:06 AM

haha, I'm terrible at drumset. Nothin' but rock for me :(

Permanent Solution 03-31-2006 02:07 AM

I was going to say percussionists but I thought you were good on set :-\

PDWAB 03-31-2006 02:08 AM

I haven't played set in like.... two years. I was able to fake my way through a gig last December but that's been about it.

Permanent Solution 03-31-2006 02:09 AM

Lame...you gotta be like Peart and incorporate the percussion all over a set and be like totally insane.

PDWAB 03-31-2006 02:10 AM

uh I'm not really focusing on that kind of setting right now

Permanent Solution 03-31-2006 02:12 AM

You can incorporate set in any style of music though...

I thought you were doing Jazz and some Latin though?

PDWAB 03-31-2006 02:14 AM

I'm playing Piano in the Big Band and Vibraphone in the Jazz Combo. I'd like to be more knowledgable as far as chords, comping, and harmonic improvisation go. But yeah I just started Latin Percussion lessons and that's going to be great.... but there's no set stuff, it's all about congas, timbales, bongos... all that good stuff.

And yes, you can incorporate set in any style, but it's not standard in every style besides like rock and jazz bands. I need to get better set chops but that's really not my focus right now.

Permanent Solution 03-31-2006 02:16 AM

Piano eh? Fun...I wish I could play piano :-\

Right, I figured you weren't getting instructed on set, but I was saying you could incorporate it in that music. Or you can be cool like Santana and have 1 set player and like 2 percussionists besides.

PDWAB 03-31-2006 02:18 AM

Well Santana has a lot of rock going on in his music anyways. In a lot of the big Latin bands they just have a whole mess of percussionists.

Permanent Solution 03-31-2006 02:19 AM

Yeah, but seeing it live kicked. Every percussionist had a fabulous solo. Especially the drummer (Dennis Chambers).

But yeah I've been on a total Latin kick lately so I know all about the immense percussion going on in the more traditional music.

PDWAB 03-31-2006 02:21 AM

Yeah man it's so bad-A. I was doing "Basic Tumbao" in my lessons and it was kind of a mindfuck because the dominant beat is on 4. It takes some getting used to.

Mute Print 03-31-2006 02:24 AM

Wow, that was hardwork.

Hopefully this works out well.

Yeah...I still can't count, I'm all about feel, but once I nail the feel it's not too bad. Mind, Latin percussion can have some insane hard feels.

Yeah that's what I did. "Think later, play now!"

Permanent Solution 03-31-2006 02:30 AM
Yeah that's what I did. "Think later, play now!"
right. plus it's a lot more natural when you're actually in a setting. People who rely too much on count can't improv well.

B-Ran: You are so ded 2 me 4 not voting Dredg :(

I wish they would have been in the poll with NWA. Then it would have been no question. But I like Lifetime slightly more than Dredg. :(

Permanent Solution 03-31-2006 02:36 AM

Dredg>NWA>all the other bands in that bad poll :-\

But still :(

Well, I'm off. It's 3:30 here. G'night guys.

Permanent Solution 03-31-2006 02:39 AM

Yeah, it's 130 here and I have class tomorrow so I'm out too...see ya Joel and B-ran :)

Gatsbys American Dream's headlining tour, "The Stampeding Machines Tour" featuring Forgive Durden, Horse The Band, and Portugal. The Man on the east coast and My American Heart, Waking Ashland, and This Providence on the west coast

Wow, I'm debating which one of those tours is the best. I love almost all of those bands a lot (Waking Ashland not so much). Shame I don't even live in Americaland.

poprocks&coke 03-31-2006 08:12 AM

Hello there.

Has anyone here been or regularly go to Reading? I need to ask a few questions.

Dead Star 03-31-2006 08:21 AM

Hey everyone.

No school for two weeks lolzors.

Lily - nope but I'm going to Leeds this year.

Kif 03-31-2006 08:25 AM

I've been to Leeds twice, never Reading though. Sorry

poprocks&coke 03-31-2006 08:35 AM

Don't worry, I'm just wondering about service stations near Reading, for showers and toilets and the like.

Part of going to a festival is the lack of these.
