No problem, it's a weird filing system like I said before, I had to spend a few days trying to figure out how it works ><
But anyways, I'm gonna go, be back in a few hours. |
Just a question...Is the first solo on WYWH played with a slide?
|

No the first isnt. But the rest of them are with a slide. |
Allright, thanks. I tried playing it with my recently acquired slide, and I got to the part where you slide the fourths, and I got real confused, so I figured, why not ask in the Floyd thread. :p Thanks for the help.

My Live in Venice is 560 mb, I'll try to upload that.
|
I never got around to learning the later solos in Wish You Were Here... I should do that.
|
I'm bad at quick sliding. That's why I can't play SOYCD 6-9 all the way. :upset:
|
I know 3 of the 5 songs on wywh...when i feel like it, ill probably learn the rest.
SOYCD 6-9 and Have a Cigar are the two i dont know, but i really need to pile up some effect pedals for quick transitions |
Yeah, I don't know the last 2 solos on WYWH. They're not Gilmour's best work...What are some other solos that Gilmours uses a slide on?
|

High Hopes(it is recordered on a steel guitar, but I am sure it can be done with a regular guitar) One of these days A Saucer full of Secrets(If you can call it a solo :amaze: ) |
My favorite slide solos are high hopes and One of these days
But he has so many...It makes me want to learn slide guitar really bad, but i make my guitar sound retarded when i try, so for the good of music - i stop |
It's absolutely necessary that one of you learns the solo in SOYCD(6-9).
|
the solo's in soycd are so beautiful. im learnin them right now. All the guitar magizines and all the "music ""experts"" " say that time was the best solo he ever did...and i stongly dissagree. i think the money solo was better...with the sax and the dropped beat it just goes along much more. dont get me wrong the Time solo is awesome but not his best work. What do you think sid barrets best gutiar solo/riff was?
|
Interstellar Overdrive.
|
agreed. i like the riff in lucifer sam. its really 007-esque :)

That's what it reminded me off too. |

I never liked that, or any syd stuff really. |

Learning To Fly Yet Another Movie Round And Around Sorrow The Dogs Of War On The Turning Away Time The Great Gig In The Sky Wish You Were Here Money Another Brick In The Wall, part two Comfortably Numb Run Like Hell The quality isn't that great, and it's post-waters, but it's still pretty good. Nick uses these crazy red green and blue pulsating drum sticks.
In Beyond The Darkside, the drummer played with those sticks as well. It was awesome. |
Personally, the Time solo is the best solo on DSOTM. But, for his best work, I'd say either SOYCD 1-5 or Comfortably Numb. Or maybe Echoes for that awesome part at about 18 minutes.

I agree. My favorite Gilmour solos are from Time, Comfortably Numb, Hey You, Have A Cigar, Echoes (studio and pompeii), and SOYCD. I could keep going, but then I'd be naming a ton of songs. The few I listed above are my favorite to play also, so I'll stick with those. |
Man, Gilmour better win the "100 best guitarists" poll thread thing. Except, knowing all the fanboys on this forum, it'll probably be Kirk Hammett or Jimmy Page.
|
I'm pretty sure I took out Jimmy Page, because I only had him in there until I could think of more people, and he technically isn't that great.
Gilmour was in my top 3 I believe. |
I had no particular ordering (except for having Gilmour number one, that was intentional.) I think I had Jimmy Page in my list, because he is a decent guitarist, and wrote some good stuff. But, seriously overrated.
|
I like Jimmy Page.

Its a shame that Gilmour is often left out in those top ten best guitarist lists. GIlmour is much better than most guitarists on those lists. I mean, his solo's are near orgasm inducing |
I've really been diggin' If lately. Its simplistic but really strikes a chord with me.
|
You can play those? That's extremely hot.
That's what they tell me. :naughty: I kinda want to learn all of Echoes, but its real long. So we'll see. |

I don't know about number 1, but he should be higher the Hammett, MABYE Page, but yea it is a shame to see him left out. |

If is a great song, I don't like much else off Atom Heart Mother (but it might grow on me still). |
