I'm interested in mythology, so I decided to check out some sites about the Seraphim, Bartender. A lot of them are pure religious nonsense, but a few of them have some usable data.

Metatron is the scribe or archivist of Heaven. He is the first angel to sit between the 6th and 7th level of Heaven. He is also said to be the greatest magician of the angels.
(He also has another 100 names that are meant to be him.)

Gabriel is the messenger of God. He is the voice who speaks to many of the people in the Bible, including informing Mary and Joseph of Mary's pregnancy.

Michael is the general of God's armies. He is the one credited with the destruction of the Assyrian army. He is also the angel of retribution. He is also the Angel of Sunday.

Raphael is the angel of Death. He is the one who brought down Sodom and Gomorrah (sp?)

Lucifer was the angel of Music, but was cast out of Heaven. His new name, Satan, is more of a job description. (Satan means adversary)

There are seven of them, but I can't remember the names of the top of my head, and I can't remember the sites I visited because they are all mixed up and I had to glean little bits of info from one and then a bit more from another.

I just found this one though, I haven't browsed all of it, but it seems to be alright.
Now I understand why it is good to worship Lucifer to make good music :thumb:
All that stuff really reminds me of The Northern Lights trilogy...man I loved those books (still do). Those are some my favourite books, especially the final one in the trilogy.
Which books are those, I have never heard of them :(

Riva 11-01-2004 04:58 PM

Me neither. They sound interesting though.

Bartender 11-01-2004 07:05 PM

They're known together as the His Dark Materials trilogy, comprising Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass, by Philip Pullman. Very good books. I think they're making a film of them, too, which they'd better not mess up.

Well a lot of that goes against what I'd learned/heard/thought, but thanks. I'll have a look at that site tomorrow, it's getting too late right now.

I wish I was, I would probably vote Badnarik since Mississippi always goes Republican.

I'm old enough to vote, but I won't. If I ever did vote, I would vote for Nader.

I would, but I can't stand the thought of possibly risking letting Bush win again.

Ramsey 11-01-2004 10:40 PM

You do realize Kerry isn't that much better?

If Americans really wanted a true leader, then maybe they'd vote for someone who wasn't rich to begin with. Someone who wasn't pampered all his life, someone who actually suffered/suffers. Of course Nader isn't up to this quota, but he beats the hell out of any president we've had in the past 100 years.

I'm Arab-American for the record.

That's cool, but really my biggest problem with Bush is his frequent and blatant mix of religion in government (ex: Gay marriage, abortion, stem-cell research, Iraq). I think Kerry will be much better policy wise about this. I feel Bush has no regard for our constitution in this regard, because he violates the first amendment like it doesn't exist.

I am Latino-American for the record.

Griffin_Page 11-01-2004 11:27 PM

I would vote for Kerry, but I am only 16.

I am tired of Bush's policies, and I'm tired of being part of the world's bully country.

I'm Scottish-Welsh-Swedish-Norwegian-Austrian-German American, btw.

Ramsey 11-01-2004 11:34 PM

Meh, I've gotten so tired of all these politicians....I wish we'd have a true leader once in a while. I long for a planet that is one whole alliance. (yeah, imagine.)

Paranoidd 11-01-2004 11:35 PM

The world should just unite and appoint me leader. I'd kick so much arse.

Permanent Solution 11-01-2004 11:43 PM

As long as there is no single religion, there is no way for world unity. Basically, the only way for unity now is scientific proof of one religion, and mass extermination of everyone who was wrong, because few would willingly convert. That is my opinion.

Riva 11-02-2004 12:16 AM

Yeah, well all the sites I went to had conflicting reports. Some said Archangels and Seraphim were one and the same, others said that Gabriel was the highest ranked, other Michael.

Also, Judaism, Catholicism, Protestants, Islam etc all place the angels at different ranks.

Hey Paranoidd, I like the latest entry in the blog. The funniest thing I find about the World series is that it is played completely on U.S. soil by U.S. teams, and yet they call the winner the World Champions. Just shows how self-important America can be at times. :p

Now that sounds like a plan.

Well, not just that, I'd also been told that it was the Omnitron who was the scribe/archivist, and the Metatron who was the voice.

At least one site places Michael as Prince of the Seraphim (the highest choir), while at least one other places him, despite being God's general, etc, as a member of the last and lowest (9th) choir, simplay called "angels". An angel of the people, I suppose. Yet another has said that he's in fact not only the highest ranked of the Seraphim, but highest ranked of pretty much everyone, placed above more or less everything except God.

It's all really interesting, but really confusing at the same time.

Bartender 11-02-2004 09:19 AM

Ah, I love Tuesdays. My working day starts at 11am and finishes at 12 - one lecture. What's more, it's a good lecture (Philosophy of Religion) and with an awesome lecturer (Clare Carlisle).

I have I actually wondered about that for a while, but how many professional Baseball leagues exist outside of thge U.S.

superpeer 11-02-2004 09:36 AM

Bartender 11-02-2004 09:42 AM
