Horror show has a few good songs on it, and Dracula is possibly the best, Damien and Wolf are great too.
TGB has mostly all great tracks on it, I like Atilla and Red baron the most though. |
I found Sabaton's Primo Victoria in a CD store so I dont have to order it  After a quick listen I have to say it's decent enough but a step back from their previous release.
Any recommendations on some of their later, non AIA stuff?
Also, are there any original members still left in the band, or did they all leave?
Iced Earth is realy only Jon Shaffer with a bunch of other musicians so as long as he's with them its Iced Earth. Yeah try Horrorshow or The great burden. |
Yeah try Horrorshow or The Glorious burden.
Fixed, chief. What you say is true to me, as I enjoy all the vocalists' additions to the band. However, there's a piss load of fans who say Iced Earth died when Barlow left. |

Yeah, and John Greely kicked major ass in his day too. |
Helloween's new album is pretty good. I'm listening to it for the first time right now.
|
I'll have to check it out for sure. So, now after countless listens to Nightfall in Middle-Earth I have to say my favorite tune on it is Thorn. It's not one of the fastest ones on the album, but the melodies in it are awesome. The vocal harmonies, the backing guitar licks...Everything about it is good. Anyone else a fan of the song.
|
I got Century child and Oceanborn by Nightwish just yesterday,...Knowing not that she had just been kicked out!
I also got A rise to power and One step beyond too... |

Absolutely my favourite along with Nightfall and Mirror Mirror. I particularly worship the circus like solo and the piano part: AND DONT YOU THINK ITS TIME FOR US TO BRING IT TO AN END COME PLAY THE SONG OF DEATH THE WISDOM IN US BOTH WILL MAKE IT SPECIAL GUARANTEED COME PLAY THE SONG OF DEATH! :chug: According to their official site some parts of Thorns were written for Nightfall :) |

Tarja getting sacked doesn't diminish the music she did with them; if anything it will make it more precious and irreplaceable. It's funny, but in a way I'm a little bit glad that the band can't now go on to become a parody of themselves - Nightwish as we knew it finished on a high, and nothing can now tarnish that. |
i just got Burnt Offerings by Iced Earth.
Dante's Inferno made me sh|t my pants :) |
Haha, I think that's only an average IE offering, but Last December, Brainwashed, Dante's inferno and Diary are Godly.

I also got A rise to power and One step beyond too...
Oceanborn is probably their best. Some beastly riffs and solos on there... Century Child is a bit...more ballady then their others, though it also has some of their heaviest work as well...Slaying The Dreamer springs to mind. The fanboy in me says both are mindblowing. I got A Night At The Opera by Blind Guardian a few days ago. Excellent, excellent cd, though I find I can only listen to it for about 3 tracks at a time. |
I'm surprised at how ANATO appeals to new fans. I still havent entirely gotten into it :\
|
I love the first few tracks on it, it gets a little meh afterwords though...
|
ANATO takes time to sink in because the production is so dense. The songs on there averaged around 75 instrumental voices, which is unbelievable when you consider how most metal songs average around 24.
Hansi has said that ANATO was an experiment to see how far they could push that concept, and on the next album they'll be toning it down to be more reminiscent of NIME |
The songs on there averaged around 75 instrumental voices
 Is this a fact?! |
I read that somewhere. I think it was in this thread about a year ago.
|
My first listen to one step beyond=:amaze:
This album is brilliant! |
Cheers! :)
Speaking of overblown arrangements (like BG's), Tarranno Del Mar from that album had 140 backing vocal tracks! All up, 220 tracks! HAHA! Dungeon = Blind Guardian Jnr. :p |
My first listen to one step beyond=:amaze:
This album is brilliant!
YSI please? If that's ok with Tim. |
It's high time I gave Dungeon another chance. Suggest any songs you think the mighty Stoic would like :p
|
Hehe, this thread is 80% BG talk, I swear...
Not that there's anything wrong with that! A Rise To Power is a firm favourite, I believe, Orestes. |
Stoic, give the following a try
Life Is Black (Best. Guitar Tone. Ever.) A Rise To Power Wake Up Severed Ties Netherlife (Black Roses Die) Lost In The Light |
Hehe, this thread is 80% BG talk, I swear...
I wonder why
A Rise To Power is a firm favourite, I believe, Orestes.
I've already started searching for it on soulseek ;) EDIT G_Mac, awesome, thank you! These will keep me busy :D |
I don't mind people trading one or 2 songs to give someone a feel for what we do, so go nuts. Whole albums on the other hand... well, that's why I'm eating 2 minute noodles instead of steak every night! ;)
For songs, I suggest these from One Step Beyond: "Against The Wind", "Tarranno Del Mar", "The Hunger" or "One Step Beyond" For over the top ness (is that a word?), try these from A Rise To Power "Lost In The Light" or "Traumatised" For good heavy metal, try "Resurrection" or "The Legend Of Huma" from the Resurrection (2005) album. And for some fun, see if you can find "Insanity's Fall" from the Under The Rising Sun live album (it comes as the bonus disc on the latest Resurrection album limited edition through LMP). That should keep you busy! :) And if you get bored, look up some songs from "A Personal Journey" by LORD. ;) |
well, that's why I'm eating 2 minute noodles instead of steak every night!
 Well put. |
Tim i don't suppose there is a website for LORD is there? i searched google and couldnt find it, all i got was stuff about jesus and lord of the rings (knowing my luck is was top of the second page but i was too lazy to check)
WOO can't wait for the next galloglass album |
