Speaking of music, can anyone tell me anything about the Trans Siberian Orchestra? I've heard a lot about them, especially from my guitarist...

Kingofdudes 11-11-2005 11:37 AM

Speaking of music, The Trans Siberian orchestra is a collaberation between some of the members of Savatage(I think) and an orchestra. They are mostly known for their Christmas songs. They are supposed to be great live.

I was gonna see them this year, but the venue has been destroyed, and it is in the closed down section of Biloxi.

Is it traditional Christmas songs that they play? Or do they write music?

So I ended going to an Irish night in a youth club (?) not down though, my friends live there, so I had to sleep over.

't Was fun. Lots of Flogging Molly and Therapy? and many drinks, another late night.

That's awesome (not about the venue, but about TSO)...they're supposed to be coming down here to Paducah for a show soon, from what I've heard.

I thought you said Therapy? were there for a second.
Then I would've been envious.

Well, I had my sandwich. Turkey, ham, swiss cheese and pickle, and toasted. Fantastic.

They play traditional songs, and they also write their own songs.
Is it traditional Christmas songs that they play? Or do they write music?
Everything is arranged more or less by Paul O'Neill of Savatage fame. They're known best for their Christmas and holiday music, but they also have an album entitled Beethoven's Last Night.

kurrpt 11-11-2005 12:03 PM

they actually come to my area every year around christmas. They always sell out the saturday show. I might go for the Sunday show actually. I heard they are amazing

Ah ok, thanks for that.

They sound pretty interesting actually, I should look into them sometime. Do you have any recommendations?

I'll send you a sampler, if you'd like. You'll have to wait two hours (class obligations), but I would be more than happy to send you one.

If you can't wait, then try these songs from Christmas Eve and Other Stories:

Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24)
Star to Follow (a children's choir is featured!)
A Mad Russian's Christmas

Just curious, what kind of music is Therapy??

God, that looks retarded, why do they need the, '?,' at the end of their name?

They make (hard) rock music (sometimes alternative rock), mixed with punk and metal. They sound quite different on every album.

According to Wikipedia :
Much has been made over the years of the unusual question mark suffix to the band's name. Various theories have been ventured by fans, many of them bizarre. The truth is somewhat mundane. When designing the band's first home produced single, Andy Cairns misaligned the Letraset adhesive label on the sleeve, and used the "?" icon to fill the space.
But I haven't really seen an official comfirmation of it. Looks cool, I think, though.

Sounds pretty interesting, I like bands that change their sound up each album (Korn, In Flames, Opeth, Avenged Sevenfold, Underoath, etc.) a lot.

That's a pretty funny reason, if it is true, and yes, it does indeed look cool.

Any suggestions on songs/albums?

No, I haven't.

Yeah, they're not metal though, just metal influenced.

Best album is probably Troublegum.

I've used Screamager as an introduction for most people here, although Jom would fanatically recommend Long Distance here.

I was really close to buying troublegum on whim a couple of weeks ago...I probably told you that, Jelle.

I do that with more regularity now, just find bands people on here rave about, and buy a random album without actually listening to them first, it worked with Dream Theater a while back, and look how much I love them now...
Speaking of music, I finally listened to De La Soul's Three Feet High and Rising and was a little disappointed.
What didn't you like about it?

I like it because it feels more playful than most rap albums out there. Not like a joke, but more laid back, if that makes any sense.

Kurtz 11-11-2005 02:00 PM
I don't know...it just didn't click with me for some reason.
Eh, thenmaybe you'll like De La Soul is Dead. It's a little more on the serious side, but I still think TFHAR is their best.

Folks, where should I start with Therapy? I've heard some stuff from them, but I'm not sure which albums I should begin with. Jelle, or any other Therapy? fans, help me out here.

EDIT: ah, recommendations above me

I was about to buy a Therapy? album the other day, but didn't have enough money...:(

on a random note, http://www.tartareandesire.com/ has a few mp3s on it by not so well-known bands, all metal. it's got a huge band info bit as well, but a lot of the bands don't have mp3s on the site.

liking this album, it got sent out in the PM mailing list.

If any of you guys want me to send some songs, contact me on AIM or MSN or e-mail, or whatever, let me know.

Happy listening :)

Check back a page or so. :p I can't really think of anyone that sounds like them.

Don't think it's your cup of tea, though. Although, you do like some 90's rock, if I remember correctly.

superpeer 11-11-2005 04:35 PM

I know they are, but it's just hard to describe them. :)

I could send you some songs, if you like. And to anyone else.

That'd be nice of you, Jelle :)

Shattered_Future 11-11-2005 04:50 PM

Your consistent whoring of Therapy? has finally intrigued me.

If you would, send a song or 2 to anemiate@yahoo.com if you want. No rush...take your time. :thumb:

On unrelated news, I made 40 bucks babysitting today...spent half of it on a studded guitar strap. Needed to replace my old one...twas falling apart.
