Kirk is no where near the shreder the Dave is, but I like his lagoto style like the slower solo in Master of the Puppets and such.
Dave tends to blend notes together sometimes and I dislike that. Still I prefer him over Kirk.

Britton 12-05-2005 01:07 PM

I like Kirk's solo's I've never realy heard him mess up. Please no more of this Dave vs Metallica stuff....it gets really really old

Have you seen them live?

Britton 12-05-2005 01:13 PM

Yea I have and Kirk had a brilliant solo....it was along the lines of Wherever I may roam...so fittingly they went from the solo into the song. Then Kirk had another great solo....but I can't remember if it was before or after

clairvoyant 12-05-2005 01:22 PM

When I saw Metallica live Kirk totally messed up the One solo.

Britton 12-05-2005 01:23 PM

Hmm intresting.

when did you see them?

Jev 12-05-2005 01:25 PM

When I saw 'em back in '03 he messed up a solo, can't remember which. And at download he messed up quite a few.

PepsiMetal 12-05-2005 01:33 PM

I had a vid of Rock in rio and one sounded a bit messed up in the beginning. It wasn't that bad though. Download festival sounded great though. They should just let joey be drummer and make lars a manager or something. lol His seek and destroy and creeping death beats made the songs even better.

Yea I agree everything felt so fresh with Joey

A monkey strung out on speedballs could play better than lars.

I hate that man with each passing day because his attitude chokes what little talent he even had. I cannot stand a guy that claims to be a professional that doesn't do anything with the band, puts in crappy computer generated fills that he can't do himself, and then at the end of it all, calls it 'His' band.

His drumming is easy and gets boring IMO.

was that on the cunning stunts dvd? he screwed that up i think

god, i havent been on here for ages, lightningmetal666 is tanning my *** on post count :p

lightningmetal666 12-05-2005 03:09 PM

I think Joey Jordinson should join up with metallica. There I said it.

If he got into metallica, I'm pretty sure that they would start going back to their roots a little bit more. I know some people here wouldn't want to hear another RTL or MOP, but I think they lost their way with St. Anger and they've gotta come back to the beginning and try to branch out from there.

Maybe it'll take them into a better direction.

Besides, i've been hearing countless rumors that Slipknot is breaking up anyways.

WTF is up matt!?

Yeah, I been quite the busy bee here in R&M. I even got nom. for RMOTM which shocked the hell outta me. LOL. didn't win though.

I kind of like Lars as a drummer, he doesn't over complicate anything. I have a strange liking for a particular beat in Enter Sandman, it is just really really basic but sounds so solid.

In the beginning he was cool, but now I feel he's overstepping his boundries and acting like a complete @$$.

Yeah, especially Seek and Deatroy and the breakdown where James shouts "Hey Joey", that is a very nice fill. Although on creeping death after the interlude he goes alittle fast and the others struggle to keep it together

Kyle 12-05-2005 03:15 PM

Metallica can do better than Joey Jordinson, not that Joeys not a great drummer but he doesn't exactly fit with Metallica. I also don't really like his rape of the Double Pedal even though he uses it more innovatively than others. I'm kind of rambling now but If Metallica were to get a new drummer (which would never happen....ever) I would want them to get the very best.

I know what you mean. There was just one point in St. Anger where I really wanted to just rip his head off. He was constantly whining about not being allowed to listen to songs (which I can understand), but then when the whole group is listening and James asks him what he thinks, he is dicking around with some guitar and just says "Umm yeah, I wasn't really paying attention". I thought, "what a complete tosser"

Yea. At the end of seek and destroy, James said "Joey, you rock." lol. James was all tired and stuff. Metallica with Joey would be so badass. It'll never happen though. :upset:

metalhead_matt 12-05-2005 03:18 PM

to be honest, i think it all went down hill after cliff burton died. think about it, when he was alive, on the RTL album they did the call of ktulu instrumental = excellent....on the MOP album, Orion = excellent....then he died, the justice album came out, to live it to die = no way near as good as the previous two. And they lost there whole heavy metal feel aswell.

BTW I only found out the other day, something about james and cliff swapping beds on the night of cliffs death? because james couldnt sleep or something, so cliff swapped beds with him, then the coach crashed and cliff died :( dunno if there is any truth in that, never heard it before

I can't validate that, but I have heard that before, something about swapping beds and James felt like he was totally responsible for it.

Definantly, but there are some times during some songs that you almost wish for some REAL double kick bass. Oh well. Metallica are Metallica because of each member...

PepsiMetal 12-05-2005 03:21 PM

I like To live is to die more than orion. Call of Ktulu is equally great though. I don't like orion that much really. Plus it was just meant to be. Even if they hadn't switched beds or whatever, cliff would have died either way.

JausmetalJ 12-05-2005 03:22 PM
I can't validate that, but I have heard that before, something about swapping beds and James felt like he was totally responsible for it.
I believe the story goes;

the band drew for beds, and Kirk was sleeping in one certain bed, then Cliff got to take it because he won first choice of bed, and it happened to be the one that got him killed. Almost like he was meant to die, I hate to say that, but I guess fate had it's way.

metalhead_matt 12-05-2005 03:28 PM

wierd how things turn out aint it :(

i love orion, i love the solo just after the whole middle bit, the intro into the solo:
E|--------------------------------------------------------------------------14-15-17~
B|------------------------------------------------------------12-14-15-17-----------
G|-------------------------------------------------11-13-14------------------------
D|--------------11----------11-12-14--11-12-14-----------------------------------
A|-12-11-12-14----11-12-14-------------------------------------------------------
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

lol sorry
Metallica are Metallica because of each member..
Thats one of the best things I've ever read on these forums, sums it up so well. Well I think that counts for Kirk, James and Lars anyway, not the bassist. Not because I don't like Rob, I really do, but obviously he hasn't really had a part to play yet.

PepsiMetal 12-05-2005 03:32 PM

I'm hoping Rob will impress us on the next album. I think it's time that they release another great instrumental with each member contributing and adding their stuff.

lightningmetal666 12-05-2005 03:33 PM
But besides saying like its "his" band, what else does he do that makes you say hes an a*s ?
It's just his whole whinny I'm king sh*t rock star attitude.

After seeing SKOM a few times I felt like killing the man. When you're a musician that's going into a studio to make an album, you're there to do your job. He's got like 3 other people depending upon him to bring some creative ideas to the table and all he wants to do is just sit there and jerk off.

It seemed like James had to come up with all these ideas on his own, with a little help from kirk, and Lars got to sit around with a thumb up his @$$ not doing his fair share of the work. This is so unprofessional that it sickens me.

Have you seen his bass solo from the Bell Tolls vid on www.metallica.com .
In a word, it owns  and I hate that word. He plays one like it when they played download festival, its so thick with the overdrive.
