Jealous.

Zero good shows come to upstate NY. You have to drive 3 hours south to see anything worthwhile.

Nepenthe 12-24-2010 11:23 AM

very few good shows ever came to dallas, and even less come here to tampa

best not-very-big show that ever came to dallas was altar of plagues. they played in this empty house downtown. just had everything set up in a room, there was no stage or anything. was fucking awesome, prob best show i've been to period. i was 4loko'd out when i got there and found them drinking jim beam before the show and chilled/drank with them for a little while, so that was awesome. cool dudes.

Tom Jenkinson from Squarepusher seems like a bit of a pompous ass really

he hates every act on Warp according to Aphex Twin

Ron Barr 12-24-2010 07:27 PM

he plays bas so yes he is a faget

Destroy All Girls 12-24-2010 07:30 PM

Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers called him "the best bass player in the world"

I find his solo bass stuff annoying to listen to

Destroy All Girls 12-26-2010 06:51 AM

gonna start on the discography of A Split Second, and post this again
A Split Second is a Belgian electronic and industrial band. A Split Second is simply too good to be ignored, and from their conception in 1985 it didn’t take the world long to acknowledge the importance of Marc ICKX’s and Chrismar CHAYELL’s unique musical vision.
fuck yes

Ventriloquist 12-26-2010 10:32 AM

Destroy All Girls 12-26-2010 11:26 AM

Terrible technique on both those drummers. Any wonder the drums sound bad.

RouteOne 12-26-2010 04:05 PM

well they're not specifically drummers by trade lol

Aaron 12-26-2010 04:09 PM

Makes me a sad drummer to see timps being wasted like that.
Dem some expensive drums, and they're just tuning and playing them to sound like floor-toms.
I mean, lol @ people that think timp work is for percussive emphasis.

I like that track though.

Ron Barr 12-26-2010 04:19 PM

Yeah I'm a complete sucker for extremely shitty msisuc

RouteOne 12-26-2010 04:19 PM

Your percussion related elitism is quite martial industrial.
Whats the best Rome album?
Depends. The first 4 are darker and more "martial" (the a lack of a better term) than their last 2 which are more centered around a simpler, acoustic driven mindset which is less focused on samples they typically used in their earlier material. The later stuff is slightly more "upbeat" in certain areas as well.

Personally I don't like Nos Chants Perdus since his voice sounds too forced and the songs blend together too much, so if you look at their later material definitely check out Flowers from exile. Great tracks on there.

I enjoy their first 4 albums almost equally, but to me, Confessions D'Un Voleur D'Ames is their best "early to mid" material. Confessions contains one of my top favorite songs they have written to date (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-R6ma5JJBY ) Next being Berlin imo.

RouteOne 12-26-2010 10:26 PM
I'm listening to Flowers From Exile now and really like it. I'll check out Confessions D'Un Voleur D'Ames.

Thanks Ron <3
The use of the air raid siren on To die among strangers gives it such an eerie feel. The ending to The Secret Sons of Europe is amazing.

Destroy All Girls 12-26-2010 10:33 PM

Flight In Formation sends chills down my spine

RouteOne 12-26-2010 10:41 PM

One of their strengths is the effective use of samples.

One of my favorite examples:

2:06-3:34

Es lebe die freiheit!

In other news: March of Heroes. Commie martial/neo-classical-ish stuff. These could easily be scores for a movie:

"Victory is our fate" (really good choir)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAs5-vvaloU

"March for Glory" (percussion driven stuff)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kop4CH_D62I&feature=related

"Blood on my hands" (Basically an 'epic' sounding battle sequence)
