The Z Custom Thrash Ride fits that description, but Z customs are frowned apon.
I would hardly call it fitting of the description unless you go to the realllly far end of the spectrum in sqagglyness. Have you even tried this ride? to sant: i would try out a 20" a medium ride, and from there decide what you like. if its too washy, I'd lean towards something like an AA rock ride or a ping ride, or if its too pingy, fall back towards an aax stage ride or an a sweet ride. best tool = try out! and bring a buddy |
yeah i got my friend to come along, thanks alot ill come back to say my thoughts.
|
Alright i have a couple of challenges for y'all.
My setups pretty much sorted but i wanna know your ideas for the 2 cymbals im having most trouble with. Find me the following cymbals :D A 22" ride with some was, a nice definitive ping and an incredible bell. Some nice controlled overtones but not to the point where it drowns the ping. Preferably heavy. An 18-22" china. Fiery, explosive attack with some tasteful dark, trashyness and a quick decay. Preferably sabian, zildjian + paiste considered. Nothing else is easy to get in the UK. My current ideas are: 22" HH Rock ride 21" Tritop ride 18" HHX China 19" Devastation china 20" Jia china |
22" Paragon Ride and 18" HHX China.
22" K Heavy Ride and 19" K China. Any of the above two rides with an 18" or 20" Wuhan China. I also would rate the Paragon Chinas. |
Paragon rides a no no, cause i'll be having one of those on my second kit and its not really the sound im after for a main ride. Its not got enough wash.
Wuhans are also no no's cause they're expensive here |
What about the BM Staggs, I heard one ride thats was nice.
|
Not when you're looking to get the best you can. That K chinas horrible man :|
|
i reckon its good as an aux ride. i still say K Heavy and Wuhan.
|
Could you guys reccomend a good set of jazz hats? Also, a larger ride to compliment my K Custom 20" Dry Ride.
|
HHX Groove hats? HHX Manhattan Hats? HHX Legacy hats? K Custom Hybrid hats?
Ride.... 22" HH Rock ride? 21" Tri-top ride? 21" HH Raw bell dry ride? |
Drum Phil: You gotta hit that 20" HHX Chinese man. It's nice. Maybe not your thing, but check it out. If you like the 18"...
TTTSNB: Jazz Hats? Old or new? Some 1950's A hats may suit you down to a T (or even three T's :)). Looking to the new, for Sabians, I think you'd have to go for something from the HHX range, maybe the HH range. Check out the HH Dark Hats and HHX Groove Hats. Failing that, use the Sound Check thing, it's pretty easy to navigate: http://www.sabian.com/english/Webmayhem/soundcheck.cfm Zildjians are a different matter. Actually, I have to go. I'll finish this later. |
right, i'm possibly looking for a new crash, all i have is a 16" b8 at the minute, so that has to change.
i was thinking about getting a 14" or 15" meinl amun med, crash. I know all you guys will say go bigger, but i'm not sure. i play in a funk, pop rocky band and a grindcore band, so i suppose i should go for an 18". But advice is needed. the options: 14" amun med crash 14 amun powerful crash 18 amun powerful crash 14 raker med crash 18 raker med crash any help appreciated |
dont get a 14 or 15. its definately not big enough. if you want small stick with a 16 seeing how its going to be your main crash. otherwise go with a 17 or 18. I would so go with the medium crash.

HHX Manhattan Jazz Hats tbh. I have the 13" pair, and they're amazing. |
Hey guys, how are the Paiste PST 5 & 3 series looked upon in here?
Im no noob to drumming, just in the years that I've taken off, Im afraid Im way behind on cymbal tech. Ive checked out sound clips, its just hard to tell quality wise where they fall. They look like just a slight upgrade from stock cymbals, the kind that quickly bend & warp. |
They're intermediate. Thugs replaces his 2002s and rudes with them cause he prefered the sound
|
So they hold up pretty good then?
|
So i hear :)
|
jazz hats: i just got a pair of k custom sessions, which are great jazz hats.
|
I'm going to get a new ride, and I think I've narrowed it to two. K Custom Session ride or A Custom Medium Ride. which one do you guys think would be a better buy?
|

two completely different rides there buddy. They wont even sound similar. YOu need to try those both out to make a descision. THe A custom is IMO the only good ride from A custom. The rest sound blad. But regular As are awesome. |
sabian 17" vault or 17" hhx?
|
sabian 17" vault or 17" hhx?
which hhx? |
stage crash... my bad, i was kinda in a rush.
|
I would go with the HHX stage crash. The vaults are thin weight and teh HHX stages are Medium.

Vintage A, or maybe Sabian HHX manhatans, maybe something from the HH line like the Duo, or Jack Dejonette's signature Encore Ride(actually, they have lots of good sig Jazz rides) look at Meinl Byzance rides to, they are sick
|
I got a question for you lot regarding UFIP's.
Do any of you know the difference between the Tiger Series china's and the Experance Tiger China's? |
