Hey guys! Welcome to my first post...
I'm doing an assignment for college whereby I have to describe why the 7/4 rhythm in 'Money' is unusual...Sounds like a dumb assignment? Yeah...:( Being more than a little lacklustre in my knowledge of music theory terms, coupled with the fact that talking about music theory is like dancing about geometry, I'm struggling...Can any one help out? Cheers! King Struan |
My freind lent me "Is there anybody out there" (the wall live) and i didn't like it very much at all...

I agree, I personally didn't like the flanger he used on a lot of solo's. |
That part in the Wall (movie) is so haunting......It makes me shudder.
that whole movie is weird... watch it at 4 in the morning with your band when your all so tired you throw ur shoes at them if they talk.... then its fun! |
I love Nobody Home. I suddenly realised the other day how monstrously good that song is, and that's what tipped the balance for me in favour of liking Disc 2 more. Basically I think that the second half of Disc 1 can drag a bit sometimes, whereas Disc 2 is absolute quality all the way through, and, being a geek, the story of Disc 2 is more interesting for me as well.
I fully agree. It sounds like absolutely nothing else, but it's genius. Even just from a musical point of view, there's just so much going on that you don't notice at first, and the rhythm under the first part of the song, that always seems to be teetering on turning into discord is brilliant as well. I don't suppose there's any chance of you ever sending that to me on AIM...(A)
I have Live in Venice if you want me to upload that... |
Guys, I've heard that Pink Floyd did a cover of 'Stairway to Heaven.'
One of my friends says he has it, but I haven't been able to hear it, since the first time he told me about it, I wasn't into Pink Floyd and now when I asked him for it, his sister had taken the CD. So, is it true? |
Shine On You Crazy Diamond
Learning To Fly Yet Another Movie Round And Around Sorrow The Dogs Of War On The Turning Away Time The Great Gig In The Sky Wish You Were Here Money Another Brick In The Wall, part two Comfortably Numb Run Like Hell The quality isn't that great, and it's post-waters, but it's still pretty good. Nick uses these crazy red green and blue pulsating drum sticks. |

Cheers! King Struan
First of all, I think the time sig is actually 7/8. I could be wrong, but I think that's what it is. Money is so 'unique' because almost every song that gets a lot of air time on the radio is written in 4/4 time. |
Anyone like More?
That's one of the next Floyd cd's I wanted to get, but I wasn't sure how good it was. I was gonna ask the thread but I forgot. So does anybody have it? EDIT: Also Money changes from the 7/4 time to 4/4 when it hits the solo. You can count out the beats. Its very cool. |

yeah, the rhythm in another brick part 2 was just horrible... |

If you listen to the song, you can clearly hear Plant's vocals. |

The tone in the solo was off, and it was overall very sloppy. |

I say just keep playing it man. The first few times I played it I played it slow as hell, then I went faster and faster as I got more comfertable with it. Now I can rattle the thing off the top of my head with out even paying attention. Just keep at it man you'll be supprised :thumb: |
Upload it.
I haven't got it down perfectly, just learned how to do it :upset: And I haven't recorded it :upset: |

As for the whole 7/4 time signature thing, almost all music for the past long amount of time has been written in 4/4. Just think about it... tap your feet at an even tempo without any music. Even doing that without any background music, after four beats you feel like you've reached a "completion" of sorts... so, writing a song in which 7 beats makes up a measure, instead of four, is quite difficulty to do, especially if you want it to remain catchy. And Money was catchy enough to make the billboard top 20 (only song with a 7/4 time signature to do so.) |
Ok, give me a few minutes/hours... it's a wierd filing system.
|
Sure thing, take your time. Do you need my AIM for sending? I'll be on all day, my screen name is DeusExMachina107.
|
Ok, this is gonna take approximatly 3 hours to archive for send... It's 4 gigs ><
|
Yowza... Thanks a lot man. I really appreciate it.
