I also read online that when you are a fan of Botch, that seems a little different especially for the music that you make. What kind of role do you feel a heavy band like them play on your music? Do you think you will ever try out heavier music or are you going to stick to the softer stuff for now?

Owl City - I used to play drums in a heavy band called Isle, largely influence by stuff like Botch, Pelican, Neurosis, Isis. Even though bands like that are generally on the opposite side of the spectrum from the music I put out, I think the thing that inspires me still comes though -- the idea of becoming completely lost in the sound. The idea that imagery can be merely suggestive but not so subjective as to tell you how or what to think. It's far more about what the music says to you rather than somebody telling you how to feel. That's really interesting to me.

What's your favorite song off, We Are The Romans?

Owl City - "To Our Friends In The Great White North."

botb 08-03-2010 02:19 PM

you're one of the best posters on the review site tbh

SlightlyEpic 08-03-2010 02:20 PM

aww I'm blushing :33

on a different note has there been anything metalcore-related worth listening to recently? I haven't listened to anything metalcore in ****ing forever

botb 08-03-2010 02:22 PM

This Or The Apocalypse's new album is pretty sweet, but that's coming from someone that just loves great drumming and polyrhythmic ****. Most people here would probably hate it.

SlightlyEpic 08-03-2010 02:24 PM

yeah I think I'd probably fall into the latter, just going on a whim here but I'm guessing it sounds like another one of those lifeless, mechanical albums

botb 08-03-2010 02:29 PM

eh, idk it's fairly generic I guess but it's by no means lifeless.

SlightlyEpic 08-03-2010 02:30 PM

oh don't get me wrong I'm sure it's not, it's just after getting big into screamo everything that isn't overbearingly emotional sounds lifeless to me

botb 08-03-2010 02:32 PM

haha understandable.

Si1v3RfaNg 08-03-2010 03:22 PM

Slightly you should listen to Ed Gein if you haven't already.
