Steerpike 01-08-2008 06:48 AM

I've slept on it and come to the conclusion that there's nothing I can do about it. My only option is to wait the remain few hours until he leaves for Mexico, and then focus on getting the hell out of here.

big80smullet 01-08-2008 07:02 AM

Good luck with it man. Family problems are the worst sort :/

repcak 01-08-2008 07:12 AM

what happend steerpike?

edit: i just read it... sucks man :(

Steerpike 01-08-2008 07:22 AM

Actually, it's somewhat liberating, painful as it may be now.

What my brother does is not my responsibility. He seems intent on making me the bad guy, so I'm just not going to play the game.

big80smullet 01-08-2008 07:25 AM

just call him a dick and punch him in the arm and walk away shaking your head. thats what i do to my brother. I will break him

repcak 01-08-2008 07:29 AM

well, how old are you if i may ask (@steerpike)?

the best thing you can do is to try not to care about it - don't think about it, just don't care what he is doing and saying.
i have the same problem right now and i try not to care about it, but its far harder to do so as i thought.
Its not my sister, but one of my girlfriends i live together in a flat. She believe so hard in god and is in my eyes even fundamental. she is saying things, that are so damn stupid for me... some examples: the world is 4000years old, evolution is wrong, we are designed, the dinosaurs doesn't live because the hadn#t had place on the arch noah, etc.
if it won't be one of my best friend, i won't care, but i do... it hurts, cause she is arguing it... she does not say it, but she is arguing, and whenever she talks about ANY topic, she is always referring to god and i just can't deal with it; i try to say that there are other views, and so on, but we always started to quarrel and get into a fight.

through this i lost one of my best friends, ... its a sad story.
i try not to care, but its not that easy, but the only way....

Not a hot idea in my case. He has something of a violent streak. Hell, you should see him with the dogs. Our elderly mutt barks at him at dinner because of the number of time he would hit the dog in the face with a chair to make him move when he was younger.

Now whenever the dog barks at him he starts screaming at him, taunting him, and in general trying to out-alpha a geriatric mongrel that's about knee-high.
well, how old are you if i may ask (@steerpike)?
23. About time I got my own place.

I hear ya. I've tried tuning him out of my conversations, so he just waits for an opportunity to say something truly offensive to me or go on his tantrums when I'm trying to work.

That's rough. There truly is no reasoning with a fundie.

big80smullet 01-08-2008 07:49 AM

I cant stand religious fanatics. my parents push the god thing but not too hard. My friend became "born again" and she started going to church like 4 times a week, and god told her to marry this bloke she didnt even know, so now they're married. and she always emails me to ask if im a christian and if i go to church. it got so annoying i recently sent her an email about all the things ive been up to lately. i mean EVERYTHING, girls booze and drugs included. i havent heard from her but im not so bothered tbh

superpeer 01-08-2008 07:52 AM

I don't know anyone who is religious :\

Except my grandparents, I guess, they are a bit. But they never talk about it, they go to church sometimes and that's it.

Maybe this is a pretty atheist country.

Riva 01-08-2008 07:54 AM

I have a couple of very religious friends, but they don't proselytise, so it doesn't bother me.

Though one of them invited me to a group on Facebook which planned to boycott The Golden Compass on the grounds that the author kills off the God of the fictional world that he created. :p

pate 01-08-2008 07:56 AM

Oh god

Sums up my thoughts.

big80smullet 01-08-2008 08:17 AM

If christianity is gonna be destroyed by a fictional reality in which god is killed i think it was probably a **** religion to begin with

repcak 01-08-2008 08:20 AM

i don't have anything against if someone is religious, its ok for me.

i accept them - but i would like, that they accept me as not being religious.

i know her pretty long and it always was ok. i knew that she believes in god and it was ok for me, but then she start trying to change my mind... a half year ago she said, she is praying for me (!) that i will go back to/find god
what the ****? for her i have to be the worst person or someting like that, because i don't believe in what she is believing in - i don't care if there's a god or not... whatever.

she just turned recently into this. we have talked all those years normally, had fun, but since end october/november we just end up in a fight everytime... i cannot discuss anything with her anymore.

Txus 01-08-2008 08:21 AM

I was born into a roman catholic family but they are not that religious anyway and I'm an atheist and they all know that, so it's ok.

I ****ing hate religions!

G'Morning btw

gmoneyguy 01-08-2008 08:28 AM

My parents are well aware of my atheistic tendencies. My dad gets pissed when I question god sometimes.

Morning Mike and RM.

repcak 01-08-2008 08:28 AM

good morning Txus.

Religion would be ok, if everyone would deal with it as a personal subject, but most ppl try to convince other persons to their religion - THATS the problem.

And the other kind of persons just refers EVERYTHING they do, to relgion and god like my friend... i just fukking hate this.

i just don't know what do say next time.
i think, the best would be, if she starts again, to say: "oh... not again... do you really have to refer everything to god? cannot you exclude god in your discussion?"
and i'm pretty sure, what she is going to say: "the world is god/everything is god/or something like that".

my parents are cool at this discussion!
while being a child i've been raised as a catholic, but when i started to question god and religion in general, i realized that my parents doesn't have a problem with it... they believe, but i think, they don't really care.

i even talked with my parents several times about my problem with that girl i'm leaving with, and they gave me even advice and said what i shall do: "just ignore her; there will always be ppl who are seeing the world like she is doing it. you will realize this later in your life, that its meaningless and senseless trying to convince her to your views"
:)

Txus 01-08-2008 08:32 AM

I drank too much yesterday :(

And I hate it when people do what kacper said in the second statemenet, when they refer to EVERYTHING they do to religion or because it's gods will.
