It's usually always DSOTM too, that or A Rush of Blood to the Head. Any mellow album is great, especially if the songs kinda flow together like in DSOTM. (Never slept through the clocks chiming though)
That's good too. I put on some mellow folk stuff, like some Simon & Garfunkel, or all-acoustic Bob Dylan (stuff like Mr. Tambourine Man) .

Also, my favorite track off Tommy is The School Bully, but I am still working my way through it.

NP - Lou Reed - Temporary Thing.

TheDMV 05-05-2005 05:23 PM

If I want to fall asleep to an album, It's usually Neil Young - After the Goldrush. Neil Young might be my favorite artist, and this is my favorite album of his. He's not classic rock, but I've also been getting into Jack Johnson lately. He's really mellow, and a terrific songwriter; a great bed time listen.
I leave for one night and everyone decides that Who's Next is the Who's best album.

Sell outs...
I'm still with you on Tommy

/is listening to Go To the Mirror, Boy!
My thoughts on Tommy:

It's a good album, perhaps better than Who's Next, but because it's a concept album, I fell I have to llisten to it all thew way through. IT's a long concept album as well, so I have to get into it. Because I mostly listen to my music before bed, I rarely feel like I have hte time to listen to it. IT is a good album, just time-consuming. I know that sounds like music is my job, not my passion, But that's really why I don't listen to Tommy that much.

EDIT: THis is my One-week anniversary on MX, I think.
I actually thought it kind of sucked the first time I heard it, though not all the way through. Once I listened to it again, I loved it, and as I said before, it is my favorite album although Who's Next has my favorite songs.

JonG 05-05-2005 05:54 PM

I fall asleep to Deja Vu or American Beauty..something about the songs..

At about Helpless I'm passed the eff out. :P

TheDMV 05-05-2005 05:56 PM

Yeah, I liked my first time around somewhat. I didn't listen to all of Underture though. I'm not sure if I've listened to it all the way through yet. :o

Jack Johnson is awesome. I only have On and On but plan on getting more eventually. Not classic rock, but very mellow and relaxing like you said. Excellent chillin' music

That sites awesome. The orchestra actually does a great job with those songs. I bookmarked that page.

I'm always on the lookout for good music (classic rock or not) and I've been liking more and more of what I hear of this Jack Johnson fellow.

lunch998 05-05-2005 07:55 PM

I can listen to almost anything when falling asleep. It doesn't have to be mellow.

Woodstock 05-05-2005 07:56 PM

I don't listen to music while going to sleep. You people are crazy.

Well ideally I lie in bed while listening to music, then turn it off when I'm getting too tired. It's a good time to listen to music.

While doing your homework is the best time.

I agree, when you just sit there in your peaceful room and listen, it makes you think about the music more. Or at least it does for me.

lunch998 05-05-2005 08:03 PM
While doing your homework is the best time.
When I was a freshman and had easy homework I could do that (not saying that your homework is easy, just how it was for me). Now my homework is usually hard and thought consuming.

Listening to music in a dark room by yourself (when you're in bed) really brings out the best in it, I think. Albums like The Wall are made much better. And like Wanton said, you can really focus on just the music and not think about much else.

ledpoisoning27 05-05-2005 08:04 PM

I usually listen to something psychedelic and light some incense when i can't sleep.

cp: Joe Walsh - Rocky Mountain Way

If anyone cares xsao is back http://www.xsao.net/

I usually listen to music while reading a book in bed. American Beauty and Skulls & Roses work well.

Right now I'm reading The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. It's awesome, and he mentions the Dead several times.

PinkFreud 05-05-2005 08:08 PM

i usually get to into the music to fall asleep to it. even stuff like simon and garfunkle. i'll start singing it and begin to get even more awake.

great book. id recommend the pumphouse gang by wolfe as well.

also, if you like weird, humorous writers, try neal pollack. hes only got 2 books, never mind the pollacks , and the neal pollack literature anthology (not too sure on the title of that one but im too lazy to go up and get it). theyre both great. the first is a rock novel where hes the main character and encounters many stars and begins many careers. the bands mentioned are like the minutemen, iggy and the stooges, the sex pistols, stuff like that. the latter book is a collection of short stories by him. hes very egotistical but it makes for some hilarious reading.
