Maybe. ;)
So far all I have for them for some reason is "Here I Go Again On My Own". I'll look for more. :thumb: Thank you.
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Give It Away Billy Idol - You Spin Me Right Round ZZ Top - Tush /really halfassed suggestions And I know I'd be interested in seeing that film......0.o |
 Ha, we've been talking about stripping, and strip music, and I've yet to see one of these Guys : :naughty:
/breaks the streak |
However, Who's Next can still do a number on me. I like how it has a really strong opener (Baba O' Riley) and ends with a equally strong number (Won't Get Fooled Again) .
Yea, and then the 6 mediocre tracks after "Bargain". I think Who's Next is overrated. |
Billy Idol - You Spin Me Right Round
I don't think that is a Billy Idol song. |
You would say Getting in Tune and Pure and Easy are mediocre. They are both 5/5's for me, very epic pieces, IMO. And isn't My Wife after Bargain?

Pure and Easy isn't on the original LP, which is what I'm talking about. My Wife has always annoyed me, same with Behind Blue Eyes. Getting in Tune is solid, but something about it never clicked with me. |
True, the vocals on My Wife are very strange. I have the version with bonus tracks, and I have trouble remembering the order of the tracks. Pure and Easy is one of My favorites none the less.

Classic Rock is growing in stature again - I have launched a festival in UK to keep it moving ahead. www.rockinbeerfest.co.uk it is small but perfectly formed - we will see where it takes us. I admit we have bands outside any firm classic rock definition, but I think they all are class acts. I will tip Elixir as a classic band in the making!

Pure and Easy, Naked Eye, and Water are all great, but they aren't on the original album. |

I love this album, I don't think those songs are mediocre at all. They are very solid tracks. Getting In Tune and This Song Is Over are two of my favourite tracks off the album. |
MAn, I can't beleive I forgot The Song is Over, IMO, another epic ballad.
Pure and Easy, Naked Eye, and Water are all great, but they aren't on the original album.
Water is such an obscure song  Naked Eye is another great one. THe more I think about it, the more I realize I love this album. :) |
A lot of the songs are too similar sounding for me. Yea it's good, then you hear the same structure and sound for five more songs. The songs individually are solid, but as an album I think it's overrated because of that.
And no, don't try to convince me otherwise because some have acoustic guitar parts and a piano rhythm. |
I'd have to agree with you on the fact that many of the songs do sound the same. I find that the bonus tracks, especially the live ones, have a very diffrent feel to them. And I've yet to really hear anything of there's that reminds me of Baba O'Riley.

Yea, Baba O'Riley has a pretty distinct sound. I was mainly referring to the five middle songs that I called mediocre when I said they have a similar sound. |
^True enough, but when songs sound similiar, I find that I still enjoy listening to the lyrics. For me it's enough to just hear diffrent words over the songs. If the music differs enough, well written lyrics can help the song immensly, at least in my opinioin.

I agree, and I also think Townshend is an amazing songwriter. I'm not trying to call Who's Next bad or anything like that. The middle tracks of Who's Next are only mediocre when compared to the other amazing songs The Who have done. For some other bands, songs like "The Song is Over" and "Getting in Tune" would be standout tracks. But The Who they don't strike me as anything special. |
I was a little dissapointed with Who's Next, though, I see where you're coming from. It's always rated so high amongst the greatest albums of all time, I expected a masterpiece. I guess it's rated up there more for influence and originality, perhaps even the whole "concept" of the music being salvation thing. It I beleive the first album to use a synthsizer so obviously original, and as it would turn out, extremely influential. I think it is better than one of those albums that "have there moments". It's solid, and beyond, but a bit of a letdown; it's not really all it's cracked up to be.
|
The concept was more or less a failure, Townshend's "Lifehouse" project crashed after it was becoming increasingly complex. The band struggled just to salvage a record. So when you look at it that way, Who's Next was great. However, I still don't think it should be seen as The Who's crowning achievement.

200th post
Yeah, I know the original concept failed, with the free shows, and a movie, but the message they were trying to convey in the music was still there for the most part.
What would you say is the Who's most prestigious album? |
Meh, I still like it. Tommy > all, though.
I like Who's Next, too. But it's usually reguarded as being their best album, which I completley disagree with. As long as you prefer Tommy, that's all I ask. |
Wow, wanton, I just glanced at that site, looks really cool.
I'm off to bed now everyone, wish me luck that my CD player won't run out of batteries. I've ran out of spares and I've got like one little bar left. G'night! |
Very cool site :thumb:
I wish it had XSAO's layout though :( |
Yeah, XSAO sold out.
