That's a ****in' ace bass. DVG.
Yeah man, I look at/drool over that bass quite often, and I don't even play bass. I'm not downloading Neil Youngs album, I'm gonna wait to buy it. I've got a couple Sly and the Family Stone albums on vinyl, I can't remember which ones right now...but I do really like the music. They remind me of this other band, can't remember which. There are a couple super tiny little bugs crawling on my screen! :amaze: edit- Haha, if I chase them with the mouse, they do little back flips away. At least they look like backflips. They're crazy buggers. |
I'm just interested to know if anyone has any recordings by Eric Burdon and War. I have recently read a book on Eric Burdon written by the man himself and as we are on the topic of funk I thought it appropriate to ask this question. I would like to sample some of their music.

Yeah man, I have a War album that has a lot of Eric Burdon on it. I don't remember what it's called, but I like it. I'd post some songs, but it's on vinyl and I can't get it on my computer. |
Fair enough mate, I might grab one off Amazon, I've got some other stuff I would like to get in from America anyway.
|
I just got through listining to SRV's legendary proformance of "Little Wing" and all I have to say is wow! I don't know if this true or not but they say that he took 5 hits of LSD-25 and shot up some heroin before he played. They asked him about it and he said he didn't even remember playing it. I thought that was sort of funny. Does anyone consider SRV Classic Rock?
|
yeah, little wing is actually my favorite song of his. its also definitely one of my favorite songs of all time.
|
I didn't know that SRV story, I didn't know he was into acid. I could see the heroin thing though. I don't exactly consider him classic rock, but I consider him blues rock, and his music is classic...so it's basically the same. Man I love his playing, Little Wing melts my soul.
|
He doesn't fit well anywhere he played Blues when Blues was long gone and right after the Classic Rock era.
|
I've never heard Marquee Moon, but I have heard a lot of good stuff about it. Anyone here know someone who wouldn't mind uploading it in one of the YSI threads?
|
I would love to hear it aswell.^
|
Hey Schyma, when did you get stars?
|
he was one of the appreciated members of r&m
guitar lead in Television's "Elevation" = guitar lead in Greg Kihn's "The Breakup Song" (or whatever it's called)
Also, the guitar in the entire Marquee Moon album is incredible.
That's a great album. /me puts on some Television
he was one of the appreciated members of r&m
Great, now we have to suck up to him. |
Haha I just put on Marquee Moon as well because of the conversation.

Lunch too. Don't worry just keep being good users and I'll make sure you guys will get the rep you deserve. The Classic Rock community never gets noticed so I won't feel too bad when I give more rep to Classic Rock fans than the Metal heads. This doesn't mean I'm going to abuse this either you have to deserve it. ;) Can someone upload Marquee Moon? |

Can someone upload Marquee Moon?
Coming up. |
youre right though, the cr regs rarely get mentioned unless we make a thread. or do some serious uploading in the ysi thread.
|
I think it's because we all basically hang out in one thread, while all the metalheads have many different threads to go to.
Also, just because we're a dying breed. =/ |
We've basically been pushed to this thread. :-/
We need a Rock forum! The only people that don't like the idea is the Metal heads they say what a "great community R&M is" but all I see is a strictly Metal community and a extreme lack of a Rock community. |

Who's AC/DC?
|
I was thinking of making just a plain Rock thread, which hopefully wouldn't just die out after everyone says how gay rock today is now and crap like that. I don't listen to a lot of modern rock, but I really like some of it.
np: Bob Dylan - Meet Me in the Morning. |
Does Modern Rock exist? I thought for the most part modern rock was dead, everything now is punk/metal/country/rap/techno/alt/indie?
|

Congrats on the stars man, and like you said don't abuse the power. They're serious about this rep system working, so we gotta do our best to prevent it from turning out like it did the first time around. You'll get rep when you deserve it. |
Does Modern Rock exist? I thought for the most part modern rock was dead, everything now is punk/metal/country/rap/techno/alt/indie?
Definitely not. I consider Coldplay modern rock. I never quite understood what made indie music indie...I'm fairly sure indie is short for independant, as in the band has an independant label and therefore aren't usually part of the mainstream. Although if you go by that definition....any music can be indie. So what is indie really, I am honestly asking this question. And you're also forgetting jazz, classical, reggae, and quite a few others. edit- Someone secretly rep me...we won't tell anyone! Heh heh. |
Don't worry I'm not careless. ;)
Seafroggys: When did you get stars? Turns out the storm turned east which basically saved New Orleans (although it did get hit hard). I'm glad I was wrong. |
Indie music is virtually impossible to define as all it means is something on an independent label, and by that definition black metal bands could be indie. To me the characteristics of indie music include minimal production, instrumental simplicity for the most part, and often harsh sounding music, sometimes with melody lurking underneath all of that. But I can't really tell you what would be an indie band...I'd just tell someone to listen to a few albums and work it out from there. And yeah, modern rock exists. It's a broad definition, but it's the loosest possible genre for bands like A Perfect Circle, Muse, etc...kind of meaningless, but there you go.
Yeah that's what I figured too...sort of like calling Avant Garde a genre. In the last seven posts, I'm the only one without stars. Oh well, I know for a fact that I don't contribute as much as Lunch, Schyma, you...or Seafroggies I suppose  I just try to make good posts and be friendly. edit- I've honestly had the song Poverty Train by Laura Nyro in my head for about a week now. And I can only remember the chorus... |
I also like how when some of us make threads (my ELO thread comes to mind...), it dies off after about 1 or 2 pages. The most succesfull classic rock thread (besides this one) is probably Lunch's series or the Official threads.
It seems that most of the metal fans aren't open minded enough for good ol' Classic Rock. :( |
Alright what's the name of the Bob Dylan song...I'm trying to think what album it's off of. I'm thinking it's off of Blonde on Blonde, but I'm probably wrong because I listen to Blonde on Blonde quite regularly and I hope I'm not this stupid. It's the song where they stop playing like ten seconds in and they all start laughing, then they start up again. Someone should know the name.

Oh ok! I was trying to think of that forever! Thanks a lot. You were pretty quick on the draw there. :thumb: I was at my cottage for four days, and I finished my book...so I picked up Chronicles and flipped to a page in the middle. Since then I can't go for more than like half an hour without listening to him. I've read Chronicles like ten times now and I still don't get bored of it. I love Bob Dylan with a fiery passion. |

"Darkness at the break of noon shadows even the sliver spoon the hand made blade the child's balloon there is no sence in crying." (something like that) MAN I miss that album! Is anyone cool enough to upload that for me? Please? :( |
