I consider ride the lightning to be the best thrash album. :p
Except RtL doesn't have many thrash moments. FFWF is the only one that comes to mind. |
Yea, that really depends on what everyone's definition of thrash is. I think it's very thashy especially songs like ride the lightning, for whom the bell tolls, Creeping death, and call of ktulu.
|
For Whom The Bell Tolls thrash?! No way, it's hardly fast... I'd say FWTBT is simply Heavy Metal \m/
Edit: But he's right.. Ride The Lightning is the greatest album, period.. :p |
Because Reign in Blood, Peace Sells, Rust in Peace and Hell Awaits don't count as thrash, do they?
|
I dont know about best album in general, but yea I think it's best thrash album. I probably like some albums more than rtl outside of thrash metal.
I do like every single song on RTL though. |
I assume you haven't heard much Thrash then.

top 10 of essential metal albums
doesn't have to be. a top 10 essential metal albums list would have Metallica. You'll find a lot of us in here think RTL is better than MOP. |
I assume you haven't heard much Thrash then.
Actually i have. Metallica may not be the best of all thrash but they are good and influential enough to be included in an essential list. Their influence has spawned many many bands and if you go past all their hype they have some very solid songs. like in happy's list i think MoP would easily replace Dream Theater's album. MoP is a much more polished and overall more important, so an "essential" metal album. ... and this is a metallica thread. |

And by the way, Peace Sells > Master of Puppets. |
actually the metallica thing was supposed to be a joke not literal. thats why it was seperated from the rest of the post. and IMO RtL>MoP, and RtL > Peace, RiP=RtL, RiP and Peace Sells >>>>> MoP, but MoP>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Almost all other metal
|
You've not heard much metal then, if you think that MoP >>>>x10 most other metal.
By the way... RiP=PSBWB >>> KEA=RTL=MoP=KIMB |
You'll find a lot of us in here think RTL is better than MOP.
Its close, but i think while RTL is a more "essential metal" album, the songs on MoP are better. |
Although I like all the songs from RTL, You cant leave out Leper Messiah, Disposable Heroes, Orion ect. from MOP.
There pretty even to my liking. |
MoP is just a polished version of RtL. I prefer RtL's rawer feel.
|
RTL is possibly my favourite Metallica album.
however, i also like Garage Inc. and St. Anger heaps as well. St. Anger is seriously underrated and all "true" Metallica fans hate it. if you were a true fan of any band, you'd respect any album they put out, not bag the living shit out of it and never listen to it. i HATE people who do that. |

I'm a huge fan of Death, but I rarely listen to anything before "Human" because I don't like Chuck's low growl on SBG, SH and Leprosy. I'm a huge fan of Megadeth but I don't listen to KIMB because I can't stand the quality of it. |

Selling out???!? see the thing i mainly hate, is people who dont think bands should ever change their style, and if they do, they're "selling out". isnt selling out playing music just for the money and fame and etc, not for just wanting to play it? if a band changes its style, its obvious that they dont want to play what they used to play. if they stuck with it, wouldn't that be selling out? sorry, i'll shut up. people piss me off. i hate people. :p |
if St. Anger would have had more soloage then Some Kind of Monster then Metallica wouldn't be insulted as much as they are
|
though James is the best rhythm EVER
|
true. solos are great, but if you've watched Some Kind of Monster, Kirk explains why they didnt do any solos.
besides, i think St. Anger would probably work better without solos, despite the fact i love them. the point of St.A is the whole raw and angry side of the music. but, thats just my opinion. EDIT: oh, and James is never the best rhythm ever. Keith Richards is the best. seriously. and many people forget that David Gilmour does rhythm as well :) |
i dont think it was kirk who explained...he was pretty pissed.
it was the others who sed they were just soloing for the sake of soloing. it sort of makes kirk obsolete tho. and BTW, MoP > RtL |

If your a fan, you can still make your mind up upon what sucks and what doesn't. Sure, you can respect an album, but you don't have to like it. I used to be a huge Metallica fan, and St. Anger was just horrible. I don't care what anyone says. They can debate with me all day long, but there would be no point. I just want to say, if you think an albums sucks, express your opinion about it if you feel the need to. Just to say, I didn't stop being a fan because of St Anger, their music just got tired to me after awhile. I still listen to Metallica, but very very rarely.
wherever i MENTION St. Anger, people bag the hell out of it, and dont want anything to do with it. they accuse Metallica of selling out. Selling out???!?
People have said Metallica sold out WAY before St. Anger. If I remember right, they were said to have sold out on Ride the Lightning when they put a balad or whatever on there (Fade to Black) cd. I have a feeling I am repeating stuff mentioned about 1000 pages back but oh well. |
Gilmour vs. Hetfield on rhythm is very debatable, Gilmour wrote more stuff than Hetfield, but Hetfield has the perfomance ability. Playing Battery with downpick and sing it at the same time i really a challenge. |

It's his opinion. Just like you have an opinion. There is no truth. What you're basically saying is if he likes metallica album more than any other albums, than he hasn't heard enough of metal. Really, stop expecting everyone to like same thing, as it wont happen. I hate when people tell me, give a certain band a chance then you'll love them, but then they go and say ST. Anger is crap because of drums. Well give drums a chance and you'll learn to like them also. Or when they classify it in same genre as papa roach, and limp bizkit. WTF? grr. It's a great album. It doesn't have to be as good as RTL, KEA, or such to be great. I was dissapointed they took solos out, especially after they discussed about no solos or solos rule. Really, why didn't they just add like half songs with solos and half without. That way it wouldn't be all solos or no solos at all. But still a great album nonetheless. No solos can't ruin the music completely for me. |

(sarcasm) |
I liked St. Anger...given I would like it with a couple solo's.
What other albums came out around SA's time? I can't think of any other Metal album that did as well as SA did...but I might be wrong |

I don't expect people to like the same thing. However, it's a fact that there's many better bands and albums out there than Metallica. It doesn't mean you have to like it, but saying Master of Puppets is a way better album than most metal out there, means he hasn't heard much metal. I can name quite a few bands/albums, off technical skill, that are much better than Metallica/Master of Puppets. Kthx. |
