Aha, not a massive fan of Dizzee. Hes like the 50 Cent of uk hip hop in a lot of ways. Much more talented rappers as soon as you get away from him and his 'crew.' Even Kano destroys him.
Boy Better Know is where its at in all honesty. Skepta - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9Km95JV9hU JME - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygIp3WzvR0U Wiley - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9styOa5JDpY Chipmunk - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDwI7KQAlD8 All great [and massively popular] uk rappers, also all members of Boy Better Know. Love it. |
Blak Twang and Roots Manuva don't seem to get any love anymore.
Honestly, tell me this is not a tune. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_B7CCPbxpU |
Maths + English is awesome, definitely look into it.
no it isn't |

Honestly, tell me this is not a tune. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_B7CCPbxpU
I've completely forgotten to check Roots Manuva out. What album is the best to start with? |
The only full record I've heard is Awfully Deep, which is pretty good if you can get into the headspace for it. It's kind of a grim, depressive album. His canonical best album is Run Come Save Me, though, so you should get that and then upload it here for me.
:shifty: |
Haha.
Check your rep. |
no it isn't
yes it is **** yuo |
Maths + English isn't that good.
Boy Better Know, please see the uk light! |
I've heard some of Wiley's stuff, he's alright but I'd wouldn't say he's any better than Dizzee. Kano is pretty crap from the small amount of stuff I've heard.
|
Kano is brilliant. P's and Q's is pretty much the height of grime.
|
Anyone heard the new Roots?
|
Is it any good?
|
Just downloaded it. I wasn't going to bother but apparently it's a little darker and less produced then the last one, which sounds interesting.
|
I'd like to hear the new Roots, I should get that.

Yeah I just finished my review for it. Hated it at first but now I think it's a solid 4/5. It's a lot more...tense. There's a weird blend between new-school and old-school, and it's really dark. There are a shitload of guests, so Black Thought's mediocrity isn't as noticeable, but in the same vein the entire thing feels kind of impersonal as a result. |
Black Thought is a great MC.
|
People say he has no charisma, and I can see that tbh.
But he fits well in the context; he doesn't take too much focus away from the other band members. Edit: got Brand New Heavies after seeing it on allmusic. Pretty cool. |
picked up
atmosphere- lucy ford eps aesop rock- none shall pass today. I'm really digging both of them. Nothing but Sunshine off Lucy Ford is such a great song. Same with Keep off the Lawn off None Shall Pass |
I need to get some earlier Atmosphere. I'm really digging Lemons, and You Can't Imagine was pretty good too.
|
yeah. Lemons is a cool album but so far from what I've heard Lucy Ford may be my favorite. It really shows off his ability to tell stories through his rapping
|
Finally got around to getting Trilla. Killer so far.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=4ZPjgjkSv9g
Heres some other french stuff thats awesome http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_iPwG1KNDrU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tX29xcrHPtY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=199H3BqBPPw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zc7V3ONxc5g&feature=related I think those own. |
I'm a little disappointed with the new atmosphere, his style is too mellow on this one and the beats are kinda boring, but maybe it'll grow on me.
|
After the first couple tracks I thought I'd feel that way, but I dunno. I just find it really easy to get into it, and the slower flow suits the lyrics he's writing now and the character he's putting across. There's some really heavy lines on there that just wouldn't have worked otherwise.
|
hey check out my beat
im influenced by j dilla and flying lotus http://www.box.net/shared/4wxo4qmucw -the noonward race |
supnun
I been listening to a lot of O.C. lately. Also, I'm kind of in an on-again-off-again relationship with P. Monch's Desire |
anybody like Company Flow? i just got Funcrusher Plus not that long ago, and its really good
|
hell yeah collude-intrude or whatever is a dope song. Listen to Cannibal
Ox if you don't already. |
Cannibal Ox are seriously awesome.
Digging the new Roots as well, cool stuff. |
The only Atmosphere i really got into was You Cant Imagine..., everything else just seems a bit boring in comparison.
|
Cannibal Ox are seriously awesome.
I've seen them on a few blogs lately, and was wondering if they are worth checking out. I guess I will. |
Liquid Swords is way better than I remember it being.
|
Liquid Swords is the only GZA album I have, but I love it.
Whats a good Cannibal Ox album to start with? |
I only have The Cold Vein.
|
never really got into Cannibal Ox... been on a saul williams fix lately tho
|
Cold Vein is great but way, way too long.
|
Yeah it does drag a bit.
|
I first listened to Liquid Swords when I was like 14, even then I said "What took me so long?"
Anyway, just listened to Spank Rock this morning. The first time thru It, I did not expect to listen to it that much afterward...... .....That was at least 10 complete spins ago. It's been a long *** time since an album has grown on me that much. Seriously, I wish I could get over it, but I can't. |
Liquid Swords... IMHO that's one of the best hip-hop records period, although i'm biased because it's the album that really got me into hip-hop at the time.
But at the very least, it's the most uniform, atmospheric and consistent Wu-related record. Great rhymes from GZA himself, the best production of RZA's carreer, and incredible guest spots -- guest spots that don't just add another gigantic ego to the mix or rep someone's cousin nobody gives a **** about; but guests that never try to steal the show but just contribute to make it a better and more versatile album. Eg. Killah Priest and Insp. Deck really delivered on that album. |
