But he has a nice beard... that makes up for any attention seeking he may do in my book.

Nice one man, quality. I like the one from Live in Japan of JM. His old bass was lush.

Lord of Sword 10-30-2005 06:48 PM

were the music videos ever released on a dvd? i've seen parts of the Lie video in the images and words/twice in a livetime trailer but don't know if they're all on that dvd. all i've ever found online is the pull me under video, but i'll probably get the dvd for christmas anyway.
also, is it worth getting the when dream and day re-unite dvd? i was thinking of getting that a while ago too, and might have that for christmas.

Yeah, its on double feature dvd.

GenuineImitation 10-30-2005 07:15 PM

Today I saw the music video for Pull Me Under on VH1 classics. This is the second time I saw the video, but I was surprised to see Dream Theater on
VH1. Did they only make Lie and Oull me Under music videos, or did they make music videos for other songs?

Lie and Pull me under were the only ones that made it on MTV.

Videos they made

Pull Me under
Take the Time
Another Day
Silent Man
Lie
Hollow years

Triangle 10-31-2005 04:15 AM

Woah, Take The Time video hehe.

Nice job on the gifs btw.

i have this song in my computer by dream theater called lost without you, but i cant seem to find the tabs for this song. Maybe its titled wrongly or something, the whole song is a ballad like guitar solo. Anyone know if this is a dream theater song?

Lord Abortion 10-31-2005 08:38 AM

Could be "I walk beside you"

probably not though, I think I may get the doubl feature DVD with I&W live in Tokyo and the other one I forget on

Eve. I think. It's one of my favourite DT tracks, if it is that.

The video sucks. It's basically JP's lesson on Rock Guitar God poses.

Yeah it's a really bad video. Plus the song is ruined after it's been edited to about half of it's full length.

shamed-angel 10-31-2005 11:11 AM

They did that with PMU. But that song's not that great either.

it's off suspended animation (petrucci's solo album). if you've got powertab, you can get a tab here:

Is Suspended Animation actually any good? I got Labrie's solo album, and it's awsome. The guitar sound is so much like Petrucci's , it's cool. A lot like TOT.

shamed-angel 10-31-2005 12:19 PM

Could someone send me eve please? I thought this song was Eve... but it turns out to be solo JP I wondered why it was almost all shred.

I like Dream Theater a lot. I hate when people say Petrucci is just a mindless wanker. I have always found his playing very tasteful.

He's one of the only 'shredders' with feel, I find...

Dreww 10-31-2005 12:31 PM

I think Satriani is tasteful at times as well. And I shouldn't have to bring up "For The Love Of God" by Steve Vai. People like Batio however, I just can't hear the feeling in their playing. If anybody can PM me a song where he displays feeling I would appreciate it.

A bit random, but everything else is on this thread. I have to agree though.

nowitzki 10-31-2005 01:27 PM

Regardless of his amazing abilty, JP has written some of the most beautiful solos I've ever heard. Learning to Live and The Spirit Carries On are two prime examples. And Another Day.

Lord of Sword 10-31-2005 02:05 PM

and peruvian skies. that was one of the best songs of the wolverhampton gig, even though it's not my favourite DT song.

'Rain Forest' by MAB is pretty good I think, I don't have the song on my computer though, sorry. There aren't any other songs by him that I particularly like though.

Personally, I really don't like Vai's or Satch's "shredding". Vai has got a really flashy, but kind of lyrical style of playing but ultimately I think his songs are boring (there are a few notable exceptions though, like 'Blue Powder'). Satch is better than Vai in my opinion, but his music just doesn't have enough going on to keep me intrested for a whole album.

Although Petrucci is pretty straightfowward with his playing, I much prefer him to all the "shredders" I previously mentioned - I think Petrucci has more feel and his solos almost always sound really good to me.

My favourite shredder is Matthias IA Eklundh, but he doesn't seem to get nearly as much recognition as he should.

The solo from Overture 1928, which plays the theme from Metropolis, which is on the first metropolis,
"There must be the third and last dance, and this one will last forever.
Metropolis watches and thoughtfully smiles. She's taken you to your home."
is absolutely stunning. His solos in Surrounded and Another Day take my breath away. That solo wasn't "played" it was composed, perfectly for the song.

Overture 1928 and most of the rest of the songs on SFAM have just mezmorising solos in them. I love that one you mentioned. Why doesn't JP make them easier for me to play though:upset: .

shamed-angel 10-31-2005 04:16 PM

Haha. Because that'd take the irony out of DT? That it's the most beautiful music in the world, yet it can be re-created by only a small few. (Including the band)
