Another nu-metal thread. It'll most likely erupt into flaming.

BoboTheRagingHobo3 02-17-2005 09:43 PM

Ok, out of a 5 page thread, only 6 people get banned?

Dargon and Toozey can say inane comments in every thread and flame people, but not get banned. We voice our opinion about their flaming and we get banned, that makes no sense...

Edit: nevermind, wrong thread. But that is still wrong...

TrappedUnderIce 02-17-2005 10:15 PM

The banning in that thread was lame. It had a decent reason to not be in the official thread.

Why try and get people outside of Slipknot's usual audience to listen to an album in the Official Slipknot Thread?

SonorKen 02-17-2005 10:57 PM

That was not lame, it was right. Show me stuff that people do that deserve bans and I'll nail them. If people want to read about Slipknot they will go to that thread.

R&M will NOT go back into the crap it was a year ago. READ THE RULES.

TrappedUnderIce 02-17-2005 11:04 PM

That isn't the point at all.

My point still remains. People in the Slipknot thread know about MFKR. Why post about it in there when your target audience is the one that DOESN'T know about MFKR?

SonorKen 02-17-2005 11:11 PM

5. Before making a thread, check the forum to make sure there isn't a similar thread already. The search function works so use it. There are several ***OFFICIAL*** threads, a list of links is provided below. Post anything dealing with these bands in their ***OFFICIAL*** threads. Metallica for example has an official thread. If you post anything dealing with Metallica outside their official thread it will be considered spam. If you see several threads dealing with a particular band, don't start a new thread with a similar topic. For example. If you see an Alter Bridge thread talking about their new CD, don't start a new thread about a song on the CD, post in that thread.

Well, the search feature is temporarily not operating but that has nothing to do with this as the Slipknot thread is listed in the official threads.

TrappedUnderIce 02-17-2005 11:55 PM

That rule was meant to stop threads from being made about the same band that can be answered by the same people.

Let's say we have person a, b, c, and d.

Person a and b like Slipknot, c does not, and d is the thread-starter of the MFKR thread.

Person D wants to show people the "other" Slipknot, but not to people who already do like person A and B. They are big Slipknot fans, post in the Slipknot thread, and most likely know much of MFKR. So person D makes a whole thread on the subject.

Now person C stumbles upon the thread, gets to listen to the album. Hoorah he found new music.

Let's say Person D posted the thing about MFKR in the Official Thread. This is how it goes:

Person D: Have you guys heard about Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat? It sounds much differen't from the usual Slipknot, and people who don't like Slipknot might enjoy it, blah blah blah.

Person A and B: Yeah, we know of MFKR

and then the thread probably dies. Not so hoorah.

So you want threads to be created about bands, that have official threads, on the off chance that someone who doesn't care enough about them to look in their official thread may like one of their albums?
It's not a good idea, plus if you make exceptions for one band/thread then hundreds will pop up citing that one thread as the reason and effectively will render the official thread useless.

Riva 02-18-2005 05:26 AM

Exactly. Especially when you consider the chaos that ensues when you get dumbarses answering questions instead of the official thread regulars...

Example:

noob: "li3k, duz Dark Side Of Da Moon synch wif Alice In Wundaland? ;lolz"
idiot:"no its The Wall and Wizad Of Ozz"
Floyd fan:"Actually, it's Dark Side Of The Moon that synchs with The Wizard Of Oz."
noob: "lolz liek wen do i start it"

etc..

It's much better that that sort of questions gets posted in the Floyd thread...

Ok, Ali and I are currently undertaking a massive bump of the other threads to try and hide these spawn linking threads. Just let them die, okay. This is the best we can do without a mod in R&M right now.

stupid enough to click it?

munky_magik 02-18-2005 07:16 AM

I think the people in the guitar forum who already clicked on it got a ban ranging from a week to perma.

Ken, this is something you probably don't know about the thread, which is another reason I find the actions of me being banned wrong.

Chris closed the thread, but saw I was going to upload a song for the thread, so he reopened it so I could post the song. I posted the song and the thread continued onwards. Why do people get banned, when they have a mods permission to post something else in there?

I can't comment on other moderators actions, how they mod, or decisions they make. We made the rules, all of us, you included. I help enforce the rules. I enforced a rule on you that I have on tons of people here, lots of people that you yourself have posted in here to have other people banned.

I unbanned just about everyone from that thread. Just because it says it is a one day ban doesnt mean it has to be one day.

You know I have told you guys I could care less if you post in those threads to give people crap (to an extent, don't spam it up) and tell them not to post in those threads, but when you participate its a different story.

Anyway, its all done.

Sorry about all the confusion with me closing and re-opening the thread, Ken. I figured I'd let discussion continue in the Official thread, but I didn't re-close the thread..

My fault.

I don't have any hard feelings toward you or your style of modding. Just want to make sure you know that.

I like a worry-free environment, if it sounds like I'm going overboard, that's why. ;)

Chris, you might want to tell him that once the search function is back up, he can find old threads on it...just so he doesn't feel like he can't get opinions on it...
