Ahhh, guilty as charged. Even so, he was quite the hero in Evil Dead 2 and that's where the classic 'Groovy' quote originated.
Honestly, what horror movie fan hasn't watched the commentary on that DVD, though? I sadly never got to finish Evil Dead 2. I had to go to work half-an-hour into the DVD. :upset: I'm just going to bum it off of a friend of mine next semester.
Aha! now this is the Carpenter influence I assume.
Also the Raimi influence in part. There will be several shots from the perspective of the werewolves themselves. And the pack is going to be like Michael Myers in their ubiquity. In nature, wolves are exceptionally clever predators. They chase their prey down because they know they probably have more endurance, letting it wear itself down. They sometimes set up ambushes, chasing their prey right into a trap. Our protagonists are going to find that out the hard way. The thing is, my tripod is pretty cheap. It's really only good for dialog scenes because the fluid head is still kind of clunky and takes forever to adjust to be loose yet stable enough for a proper pan or tracking shot. This just means that I'll be shooting a lot of the movie hand-held, which will convey more action and intensity. To that effect, I've considered a number of shots where I just duct tape the camera to a hat or my hand and do some parkour through the woods. |

It's good to have that sort of feel for a horror movie, I think. A lot of the Friday the 13th series lacked atmosphere simply because you saw Jason before he commited the acts.
To that effect, I've considered a number of shots where I just duct tape the camera to a hat or my hand and do some parkour through the woods.
Heh, another Raimi trait :p |

Friday the 13th was really little more than a vehicle for excessive (albeit innovative) gore effects. Sometimes that sort of thing works. Let us not forget the pencil stabbing in Evil Dead. Other times, it's better not to show the explicit details. Say for example, Anthony Hopkins beheading Dracula's brides in Bram Stoker's Dracula.
Heh, another Raimi trait :p
Although in my case, charging my actors unexpectedly on a mountain bike would probably end with me getting my ass kicked. I do have one really cool scene planned. Like I said, the cabin is a safe haven because it's warded with magic. The presence of that same magic however has the occassional unexpected side-effect and creates some bizarre, though usually harmless, warps in reality. To illustrate this, and also create a feeling of wrongness pervading the area, I wanted a scene toward the moment when the werewolves first attack and the protagonists start learning of the magic of the cabin where the character of Molly is looking in a mirror and realizes that her reflection's actions are out of sync with hers, as if the reflection had to wait and see what she would do before mimicking her. This should be doable with a split-screen effect. |
good day.
shopping for X-mas presents isnn't fun at all if you have no clue what to buy people :( |

I respect Sean Cunninghams work on the first one. All the movies after are good for when you're drinking with friends and want a good slash-fest.
Sometimes that sort of thing works. Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell are both from around where my dad grew up. I think one of them lived in the same city (but I don't remember which one). Army of Darkness is one of my favorite movies ever. |

Of course, just about any movie is good to slug back a couple Sam Adams to.
Even today that scene disturbs me. I can take a lot, but that one bothers me.
I only was able to watch about a quarter of that the first time around. Jesus...
A take on Evil Dead in a way? I've never seen a movie do what you're suggesting though. Would be interesting to see and also to make it work.
Sort of. Horror writers have always used similar techniques to convey wrongness. The more creative you can get with the unnatural phenomenon the better. Executing the scene shouldn't be that tough actually. It's just a matter of layering the same clip with some split-screen tech and putting them a few frames out of sync. It'll be a little time-consuming probably, but it'll definately be worth it.
Oh Oh! I wanna talk about Evil Dead! Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell are both from around where my dad grew up. I think one of them lived in the same city (but I don't remember which one).
