Didn't David use a slide during the second part of Echoes on LAP? The part where they're all just unleashing mayhem on their instruments? I remember David sitting down during that part.
It might not have been Echoes, it might have been during the song where Roger is banging on that gong. I cant remember. |
That gong banging is just so awesome, image wise, especially when they silhouette him against the sun.
|
They show a lot of closeups of his arms though, and they repluse me. They're so scrawny and covered in disgusting veins. Ick.
But yes, that is an awesome scene. |

Pompeii is such a great DVD.
Did anyone know that Syd sometimes used a violin bow in concert?
Probably wasn't that impressive. I've never really thought much of Syd as a guitarist. |
I think he was talented, but I don't think that he was the guitar wizard that everyone made him out to be. And I'm still thinking how you'd use a bow on a guitar for single notes. I've tried it and I've gotten nothing. I assume it works best for chords because when you bow an electric guitar, you just end up getting all the other strings. Unless the strings were angled at the bridge, like a cello or violin.
|
Yeah I think you can pretty much only do it for chords.
|
But still, the idea of having a custom bridge so the strings are separated like that sounds like a cool idea. But I don't think it makes a big difference in sound, so it wouldn't be that great. The only thing I can think of is a different kind of string, more like cello and violin strings. it would change the sound a whole lot, but the strings would be more costly.
|
You could just play the cello :p In any case, Jimmy Page also did that and it really only just made random noise and wasn't cohesive with the music at all.
Wow, progressive!!! |
Well, he did do it first, or so we're led to believe. I guess there is something in that.
|

Wow, progressive!!!
I thought it was entertaining. You could definately distinguish different chords while he did it. |
Nah, Jimmy Page got it from somebody else. I can't remember who at the moment, but I've read that he "borrowed" that too.
|

That could be the phrase that describes his whole career to be honest; but eh I can't complain Zeppelin are great. |

Wow, progressive!!!
I know that. that's why i thought that different strings might help. but since it wouldn't make much of a difference, it would just be a waste of time. |
But seriously, Spence, I nearly pulled out a rant until I realized it was you posting. Heh.
It brings me much satisfaction that I almost tricked anyone, especially you.
Syd Barrett and the guitarist from *The Creation (Eddie Phillips) are supposedly the first ones to use a bow on guitar in concert. *if you're interested in them at all, (which I'm sure you aren't) pick up Our Music Is Red - With Purple Flashes - really good British psychedelia |

They make those, actually. |
That's cool.

Brain Damage is such a simple but undoubtably powerful song to play. I learnt that the other night during a depression binge lol, made my night.
|
I love the lyrics to that song too. The metaphors in that song beat the entire Animals album in my opinion.
|
I can understand why some people consider Dark Side boring, but god damn if you listen to that album straight through, it really is a complete masterpiece.
|
Yeah, I love the way it flows.
The production is great too, it just sounds amazing. |
Its pretty much one 45 minute long song.
|
Except for money.
|
Money is an intermission.
|
Haha. :thumb:
It would have made a great non-album single I reckon. |
yeah. I used to love money, but now it's one of my least favorites from the whole album. Time, Breath and Us and Them are my favorites.
|
It used to be Time for me. But now it's definately Us And Them/Any Colour You Like. Any Colour You Like is such a unique instrumental.
|
I love Money. And besides, didn't it get the highest in the charts out of all Floyd songs?
My favourite song(s) from DSOTM is probably Brain Damage/Eclipse, actually. :p |
The last three songs are probably my favorite bit from Dark Side. They all flow together so perfectly. I'll listen to Any Colour You Like on my computer, and when it's done, I'll have to listen to the next two or it feels unfinished.
Although Time is my favorite stand alone song on the album. |
