Permabanned?

Classlessness 08-19-2006 03:43 PM

Naw, just til 2008. SubtleDagger's gay, I decided.

Minus The Flair 08-20-2006 12:12 PM

I'm finding it hard to crit lately. I have that horrible feeling of superiority where everyone seems to be writing lyrics which aren't that great. At all. Even the good writers. I guess I miss the simplicity of great lyrics, I'm just lacking the motivation to crit as much as I used to, I used to crit way more back in March when I joined, there seemed to be a lot more originality. I need a piece to refresh me. Or perhaps I've just been being very cynical lately, I dunno. I miss school. Anyone else ever get this feeling?

And don't take this as a 'I'm the best' speech

TheBigMachine 08-21-2006 01:40 AM

Yes, I'm feeling a bit like that. It's mainly because alot of the songs are very the same, and the good writers like Slack and RollerQueen have got their own styles, that while excellent we still get used to.

Edit: Take that back, RollerQueen just put a very good one up.
Also, can I just once post more than one song in a thread? I've written a series of four songs(the first is already up, Monk and Wanderer business) and I think just for coherency with the story line, it'd be best if I posted the songs in one thread? Yay or nay?

Minus The Flair 08-21-2006 10:54 AM

Yeh, RQ's peice has really 'revitalised me'. Sounds like something out of a skincare advert. But it had the simplicity, depth and and originality I've been craving from this forum for a long time.

Generally a nay, although a way round it would be to post links to the previous songs in the thread for the new one. That was how I got round it.

Yeah, I thought that. Hence the comments I gave it in my crit...It's actually made me wanna crit work again. I might even start writing something tonight, it's been a while since I've written because I'm genuinely inspired.

I realised yesterday that I left about 30 pages of handwritten script, and 3 songs from what I hope will turn out to be a decent musical, in Ireland  I've sent an e-mail to the people who own the cottage we stayed in, hopefully I'll get it back...it's a lot of work to go down the drain.

i was on vacation for two days and wrote about 3 songs in my head

but they probably suck so i won't bother writing them down

TojesDolan 08-21-2006 01:06 PM

I channel all the things I think about in my cellphone and then I write them in a notebook or something.

It's hard to write songs in different mind stages. Like imagery that doesn't fit in sometimes. So yeah. It takes a while.

drumass04 08-21-2006 01:11 PM

I have about 4 or 5 notebooks full of things i've written, i always have a small notebook in my pocket. That all gets put into a bigger 'filing system' at the end of the day/week (depends on how much i've written).

Lately I havn't been too productive whatsoever, compared to the past when I would jot everything in a journal. Now I just say fuckit and try to remember it later when I'm next to the computer.

slack 08-21-2006 06:56 PM

This shit is too hard. I quit.

FA 08-22-2006 03:06 AM

I wrote a disturbing piece just a few minutes ago...

Not like murder/death/kill/rape disturbing...but just something that's kind of real to me...wow..it's weird...nevermind.

How's everyone doing?

TheBigMachine 08-22-2006 05:00 AM
I channel all the things I think about in my cellphone and then I write them in a notebook or something.
Me to. Lately I've been conjuring images in my head and then characters then a plot and writing about them. Which has caused some problems, and solved some.

Bit of a bugger.

Slack: Whats the matter?

Jason: Thanks. I'll do that.

deathscreamingsheep 08-22-2006 07:50 AM

Well I'm back from Peru. It was a fantastic experience and in my down time I did get a bit of writing done though it was mainly prose. I'll be putting up a few and critting over the next few weeks but don't expect many Inca themed songs... after my break from writing they're mainly a standard affair but I think some parts might have some potential. I've been experimenting with a more stripped back simplistic style to my usual stuff and I'm not really sure how well it will work.

I found this album to be a great dissapointment, given its reputation on Sputnik. Although there are a few spectacular songs like "Lover, You Should`ve Come Over," Jeff has more confidence in his voice than it deserves. He often whines, or drones, in an almost tuneless fashion, that destroys much of the beauty of his songs. Despite being pretty good musically, this album seems to be trying too hard.
This makes me sad.

Mr. mx wrote that? wtf....all this time I thought he was musically straightened out.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 08-24-2006 01:18 AM

How come all the lyrics I'm reading are so mediocre?

FA 08-24-2006 01:50 AM

well...because that's life basically...

TheBigMachine 08-24-2006 02:10 AM

Indeed it is. You cant expect to have however many people post here, say 50 brilliant writers. Doesn't work like that. Where have you been anyway?

TojesDolan 08-24-2006 10:56 AM

Yep, it takes a while for a good lyric to pop-in.

However you must critique ten-thousand other songs to get some miserable critiques and of course, you get some good crits from guys you usually share with critiques, even if you don't owe each other a thing. At least that's what I do. If I see some remote shards of good writing, I critique constantly.

Otherwise, just one crit, wait for the on-liner and continue with my life as it is,.

drumass04 08-24-2006 01:08 PM

I generally crit if I see something that I have a useful comment to make, or if it is someone who has given me good crits before, or are just a good writer who I enjoy reading in general.

slack 08-24-2006 06:01 PM

I generally crit when this topic comes up, which is like always.

TheBigMachine 08-25-2006 01:21 AM

I crit when I like the title, or recognise the user.

TojesDolan 08-25-2006 11:06 AM

I don't crit if I see bad grammar in the title

I'm that awesome

FA 08-25-2006 03:25 PM

I don't even really crit...

TheBigMachine 08-25-2006 05:43 PM

Come to think of it, I dont think many of the n00bs are critting, just posting.

But your not a noob. But still.

slack 08-25-2006 06:13 PM

Rose Parade is such an amazing song.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 08-26-2006 01:11 AM

I guess I might make a glorious return to S&L, but it's up for debate. I've really been in a depression when it comes to my writing economy.
