Yes, get ****ation. Its nearly their best IMO. Definately in my top 3 Opeth albums.
Their best? It is a great and different style for an Opeth album but I wouldn't go so far to say it is better than the rest, It's not even their real sound. Remember what Mikael said after the Damnation set on the DVD? :)

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-06-2005 01:26 PM

Actually, I do not. What did he say?

I've got Blackwater Park, Still Life, and Morningrise. What should I go after next?

My Arms, Your Hearse: Quality album. The song "When" was the first song I heard from Opeth, and from there on I have become hooked!

Killtacular 07-06-2005 03:22 PM

Awesome. I'll give it a go.
You're driving to Orlando to see Opeth? That is awesome! :thumb:

Where are they playing in Orlando, House of Blues?
They are playing at Tinker field... And yes! Thanks Det_Nosip, it's the 13th. My God has it been a long week.

I just can't wait to get up there and see the guys with just a few other bands. If it wern't for Opeth though, fuk it... It would be pointless.

Endless Obsession 07-06-2005 05:57 PM

I saw them live last night, and god are they awful live. All of their songs were like 7 minutes or more, and they just bored the hell out of the crowd. I almost fell asleep during "To Rid the Disease"

suspect 07-06-2005 06:19 PM

I think its sad that since you can't appreiciate the music, you think they are awful live. I've seen them before, in Oslo, and the crowd loved every song, even the slow ones.

Guess that's what happends when they tour with the metalcore bands... The audience probably isn't used to hearing anything else then 3 minute long songs with 1 minute long breakdowns.

That is because you arenīt used to listen to opeth, but that doesnīt mean that they are awful live in fact they are one of the greatest live bands ever and like the guy above me said maybe there were only metalcore kidīs in the crowd.

That is because you are used to 3 minute Bullshit put out by most commercial metal bands.

Did they just play their mello songs or some of the heavier stuff?

Well, you're also a Lamb of God fan. Opeth is for people with more than a 3 second attention span, sorry. I'm sure there's a few fans of LOG in here, but in my opinion Chris Adler is the only member of that group worth a second glance and the music as a whole is boring and redundant to me. I actually almost fell asleep when I saw them a while back, yet I wouldn't go around saying that they're "awful live." It's just not my thing.

Endless Obsession 07-06-2005 08:04 PM

Their recorded stuff isnt bad at all, I just would rather see Unearth running around swinging their guitars and diving into the crowd than Opeth standing around and headbanging a little tiny bit.

They played To rid the disease, Demon of the Fall, to Bid you Farewell, one of their upcoming album and one other one, their songs are long so they didnt play that much.

Opeth is about the music, not the stage performance. Also, they are the only talented musicians on that bill, IMO.

You've lost your music privileges for your entire life. These metalcore kids need a better appreciation for good music.

Look at opeth and how much goes in to their music. Do you think someone could afford to stop playing their instrument to dick around? I think not.

Hive 07-06-2005 08:32 PM

I just ordered Lamentations. I borrowed it from my guitar teacher and thought it was amazing. Anyone who calls their live performances "boring" will no longer be regarded as a musician. Who the hell cares if they're not doing stage dives or running around like heroin addicts? They're above all that. The people who like Opeth are about the music, the talent, not stupid gimmicks.

pwned

And Jake to answer your response a page back.. Once opeth were done with their soft Damnation set they started off their heavy set with Master's Apprentice (which is a heavy awesome song) and whenn they finished Mikael said to the crowd "For those of you who haven't heard this side of Opeth.. this is what we really sound like". :)
i hate opeth i hate their lyrics they suck u cant even understand what they say
whats the point of having lyrics if u cant understand them
they play with so much distortion the notes are garbled in a fuzz
which shows very poor musicianship
All I can do is laugh at this extreme ignorance.

1) Opeth's lyrics are brilliant. If you cant understand them, buy a new stereo.
2) I can understand them so...
3) so much distortion? There is no such thing. They're using Seymour Duncans in a PRS. Believe me, there are much heavier sounds out there.
4) I'm always being impressed by the definition of Opeths music, particularly the Pink Floyd-esque solos. What were you listening to it through? I tin can?
5) You know nothing if you think this shows poor musicianship

hethamulburton 07-06-2005 08:53 PM

explain my friend

hethamulburton 07-06-2005 08:54 PM

its just like slipknot wierd, random, unintellectual, drowned in distortion
im sorry i cant stand it
explain my friend
First, I need to know if you own any of the Opeth albums of listen to them frequently. I'm guessing you don't because you obviously do not know what you are talking about.

hethamulburton 07-06-2005 08:57 PM

i have heard songs yes
and you r correct to say i have no cds

BTW: Does the 'Het' in you name stand for Hetfield? If it does, kill yourself now and save me a bullet.

LMAO.

Seriously though, what did you expect to accomplish by bashing Opeth in the official Opeth thread? Do you have a deathwish? It's like walking into a police station with a bag of black tar heroin or going into a biker bar and saying "I'm a queer!"

Here is all the proof you need Hive.
