DVG.

Badmoon 08-13-2004 10:48 AM
I wonder if that was directly aimed at me?
No, it's fine if you vote for Jimmy Page. I just hope you would know the other writers on the list.

Badmoon 08-13-2004 10:52 AM
Yea I always though Page/Plants lyrics were pretty good, but lately everyone has been ragging on them. I think it's "Come up with a lame reason why Zeppelin isn't great" month.
HEY!! I was ragging on LEd Zeppelin before it was a fad. And I did include him on the list, didn't I?

And everyone keep in mind I wouldn't be able to fit many entries. Jim Morrison, Brian Wilson, Joni Mitchel, George Harrison, ect. There's no room!!

Humor99 08-13-2004 11:26 AM

George Harrison is a great songwriter, I love his solo stuff (especially on All Things Must Pass and Cloud Nine). "Something", "Here Comes the Sun", "Isn't it A Pity" are all great songs.

Bob Dylan has become one of my favorite musicians, simply for his brilliance. He may not have been a great singer all the time, but he had a way with words that kind of made you forget that.

Jim Morrison was a great poet too, interesting images he created and groovy beats.

I like Roger Waters, interesting insight on the human pysche and such. Haunting lyrics a lot of the time too.

I also fancy Axl Rose and Izzy Stradlin' - their work with Guns N' Roses was quite good, especially the ballads like "November Rain", "Estranged", "Don't Cry", and "Patience."

B0nz0 08-13-2004 01:23 PM

but there's no contest for #1. i mean come on. it's obviously dylan.

people who haven't been mentioned a lot though:
Paul Simon
Brian Wilson
Pete Townshend
Crosby
Stills
Nash
Young

Badmoon 08-13-2004 01:35 PM

I don't care for all of Dylan's lyrics. I think Townshend's equal. And I'm guessing most of you have never heard Robert Hunter. He beats them all.
If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine
And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung
Would you hear my voice come through the music
Would you hold it near as it were your own?

It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken
Perhaps they're better left unsung
I don't know, don't really care
Let there be songs to fill the air

(Chorus)

Ripple in still water
When there is no pebble tossed
Nor wind to blow

Reach out your hand if your cup be empty
If your cup is full may it be again
Let it be known there is a fountain
That was not made by the hands of men

There is a road, no simple highway
Between the dawn and the dark of night
And if you go no one may follow
That path is for your steps alone

(Chorus)

You who choose to lead must follow
But if you fall you fall alone
If you should stand then who's to guide you?
If I knew the way I would take you home
Those are fabulous.

Humor99 08-13-2004 01:40 PM

Robert Hunter, didn't he write for Grateful Dead?

Badmoon 08-13-2004 01:41 PM

Yeah, usually alongside Garcia.

Paranoidd 08-13-2004 01:43 PM

I'm saying it again, Lou Reed.

Paranoidd 08-13-2004 01:43 PM

Actually, I think even David Bowie deserves a good mention. I'm a fan of his stuff.

Humor99 08-13-2004 01:44 PM
Yeah, usually alongside Garcia.
He had some good lyrics like "Box of Rain", "Touch of Grey", "Ripple", and the like. I just personally prefer Dylan's.

Then again, I don't think I've heard as much Dead as you probably have.

BludgeonySteve 08-13-2004 02:08 PM
HEY!! I was ragging on LEd Zeppelin before it was a fad. And I did include him on the list, didn't I?
It's the fact that you actually explained why you didn't like them that made it all right :)

And I haven't seen too many people ragging on zeppelin.

BludgeonySteve 08-13-2004 03:10 PM

BUMP!

You guys do 30 posts in this thread while I sleep. But when i'm awake nothing

The Darksteel Drummer 08-13-2004 03:19 PM

I was brought up on classic rock and wouldn't trade it for any of the modern crap!

In the words of Ronnie James Dio,
"Long Live Rock And Roll"

Badmoon 08-13-2004 04:32 PM

Get the hell outta here ya crazy canuck.

;)

The Wall 08-13-2004 04:43 PM

Classic Rock is the only reason i play guitar... i'll admit theres some really cool metal riffs and stuff but i don't like to play that...

My main guitar influence is jimi hendrix and also david gilmour from pink floyd..i remember i saw him in 1994 at teh division bell concert and i was only 5 but i still loved it and have been listening to pink floyd for almost 11 years now and many other classic rock bands for 5+years now too

BludgeonySteve 08-13-2004 04:44 PM

I think badmoon got hijacked

Badmoon 08-13-2004 04:44 PM

We need something to make this thread funner. Someone come up with a list, or game we can all play and interact with.

Against Miik! 08-13-2004 04:46 PM

Well there are only like 4 or 5 people who post in here regularly. I'm not sure what we could do...

BludgeonySteve 08-13-2004 04:46 PM

How about rate the classic rock riff (guitar, bass or a well known drum roll or fill) above you?

Badmoon 08-13-2004 04:46 PM
I think badmoon got hijacked
WTF! Don't you guys call each other "Cancuks" in Canada. Like Black people here refer to other Black people as "Brothas" or "Niggas"?

I'm joking.

Badmoon 08-13-2004 04:47 PM

We can make some sort of list or do trivia.

BludgeonySteve 08-13-2004 04:48 PM

What kind of list?
