40 hours does suck. It's at least 10 hours too few.
That would be absolutely horrible to have to be there for two more hours each day... or work more than 5 days a week.

fatbandit 06-04-2009 04:50 PM

me = 20 hour week (Y)

fatbandit 06-04-2009 04:51 PM

actually, its more like 30 with the overtime i do.

but 30 x £8 p/h is happy days really. i hate tax :(

Spaceman Spiff 06-04-2009 04:59 PM

40 x $12 is pretty good too.

Spaceman Spiff 06-04-2009 05:07 PM

Wow.. this new Mars Volta album is great. Very different.
Aside from over analyzing The White Album, was he an active musician in or before 1979? That's one of the criterium.
I'm pretty sure he was. :thumb:

I'm working an average of 55 hours a week right now, probably going up to 65 in a week or so.

funkyhoney 06-04-2009 07:22 PM

Hrmm about to go on holidays from uni, but an average week for me is about 25 hours at work, 15 at uni + home working time, 5 for band rehearsal + any gigs we do.

BenJammin 06-04-2009 08:45 PM

I like working when I'm out of school, because I've got nothing else to do during the day. Plus banking overtime is pretty good, too.

Spaceman Spiff 06-04-2009 08:52 PM

I'm moving in a week. I'm recording an album. I'm busy. I don't have more than 40 hours in the week to work. And I just don't want to.

I don't need overtime pay, either. With whatever expenses I have, I'm still saving a lot of money without any problem. I pretty much spend all I want and my savings keeps building. I'm a man of simple and inexpensive tastes.

BenJammin 06-04-2009 08:57 PM

I still have time to record and do whatever I want.

Spaceman Spiff 06-04-2009 09:01 PM

Well, you can do it at home. We don't really have the convenience of doing it whenever we want.

BassVirtuoso 06-04-2009 10:46 PM

This new Mars Volta album is absolutely terrible.
Well, you can do it at home. We don't really have the convenience of doing it whenever we want.
Being able to do it at home sucks too sometimes though... I mean you have all your free time to make/record/label/screw music and it's practically endless too but it's different I guess, the feel of it or something... I don't remember... bah...

gaslight 06-05-2009 01:51 AM

Home recordings can be lots of fun. Got to spend a lot of money before you get something incredible out of it though. Adequate, now that's easy these days, but adequate for what is the killer question.

:amaze: 06-05-2009 05:04 AM

so i just got a free olp 5-string musicman yesterday.

commence project repaint bass.

gaslight 06-05-2009 05:05 AM

Wow, why for free?

What kinda paint job are you going to do?

Sweet. Project basses are ace. Pics?

gaslight 06-05-2009 12:45 PM

I'm doing up my first bass, a GSR200, soon into a fretless. I got halfway through it a while ago, did the neck, repainted it, gutted the electronics. Never got around to putting the new electronics in though. I'm going to redo the neck and body soon and put the electronics in. Should be nice when it's finished, two-tone sky blue and white paint job coming up.

FunkMetalBass 06-05-2009 02:34 PM

I got my OBP-3 wired up in my bass...and I'm still getting phasing issues with my vol/vol settings. I think the guy who installed my pickups installed one of them backwards...the ***-hat. Oh well. I'll re-solder the leads later tonight and see if I can get it.

The EMG-DC's have a nice tone to them also, but I f**ked up somewhere in the wiring and bypassed the preamp and volume controls, so I can't check out the blending or EQing possibilities of them. Haha. Oh my poor Schecter...

And I realized that the nut on my 8-string needs to be filed - that's why I can't lower the action on some strings. JC makes a good bass and has great taste in colors and woods and such, but the finer, finishing touches are something to be desired. I wont be ordering another custom through him for quite some time, if at all. He needs work in those areas.

On a good note, those Dunlop flushmount straploks are badass - you never have to worry about them coming out of the bass or loosening up at all.

Shocking.

gaslight 06-05-2009 02:43 PM

So how do those work, I just unscrew my current strap mount and screw the new one in instead and it's better?

Jimbobntnr 06-05-2009 02:44 PM

Hello everybody. Long time no talk.

Based on my login history, if I log off today the next time I log into MX will be... early 2011?

BenJammin 06-05-2009 03:39 PM

I'm finally going to get around to re-finishing/modding the POS guitar I picked up last summer. I paid a whole $3.25 for it.

Hot crackers, $3.25? Anything you get out of that is an impressive return.
Hot crackers, $3.25? Anything you get out of that is an impressive return.
Haha, yep. Buddy of mine has some refin experience, so we're going to strip it and all that, and repaint it lake placid blue, and replace all of the cheap parts on it (mostly the tuners and the bridge). He's got a SD pickup that he'll give me to replace the stock one. I figure I can put it back together for about $75, and worst comes to worst, flip it for at least $100.

The fret job on it is actually really good, surprisingly, and the neck has a nice satin feel to it. With a little TLC, I think there's a decent guitar in there.

gaslight 06-05-2009 03:50 PM

I've toyed with the idea of picking up pawn shop basses and refitting them into decent ones to sell but I've never really taken it further than that. I have too many ill advised schemes at any one time.
