dam!!

is it winter or spring there?
It's autumn. Since it's in the Northern Hemisphere, it's still autumn. However, since the latitude is greater where you are, the sun doesn't hit Iceland as intensely because of the Earth's 22.5 degree tilt, making it colder here.

Meanwhile, the Aussies are down there, like, "WTF, mates?" Er, I mean, they are having spring, so when our winter equinox is happening in December (and we're having the shortest day of the year because we're tilted away from the sun), they are having their solstice; thus, the sun is hitting the Southern Hemisphere with the most intensity, particularly around the Tropic of Capricorn, at that time.
The only way I will vote for that flaming homo is if he is in a poll with Brian Johnson, Maynard, Axl Rose, James Labrie, Morrissey and whoever sings for Dragonforce.
I can make that happen :)

No not really: Dickinson and MJK are in the top ten so they get to head up their own polls. I like both of them too.

And hey shut up, you nominated COBAIN! If you still think he's a good vocalist then maybe you should acquaint yourself with Paul Westerberg.

I try to keep a lot of diversity within the polls, for example I wouldn't put both Pink Floyd or Iron Maiden singers in the same poll unless they somehow both made it to the final round.

I'm still mad that Steve Perry didn't make it. Where's everyone's love of cheesy arena rock?

He's the vocalist/main guy for The Replacements, I believe.

Regarding Bad English - there is a way for "for" to be followed by "I", isn't there? Just that for takes a slightly different meaning there, maybe.

That's because in that case, for is not a preposition, but a conjunction, so the 'I' is still subject in that clause. Hence the nominative.

Don't worry, you're not alone in that.

Bartender 11-07-2005 01:04 PM

A native (EDIT: or non-native, now that I think of it) speaker of English, unless they're going to teach the language or something similar, doesn't really have to know all the in-depth grammar rules. It's enough, in using the language, to know when to say what, without knowing why.

Shadows 11-07-2005 01:06 PM

Good point. I learn more about grammar in my German class, but I'm definitely better at using proper Grammar in English than German.

superpeer 11-07-2005 01:07 PM

Yeah, but like I told camelfarmer in the pit (he didn't know when to use 'I' and when 'me', then later claimed to be good at English), if you know the theory you'll make fewer mistakes. If you know why you're doing something, you'll do it more easily.

EDIT: But English speaking people really have a very very small knowledge of their grammar. Some people don't even know what prepositions or clauses are. And I learned all that in high school (for Dutch). I think it might have some effect on the poor language skills of many English speaking people.

It's right, as a high achieving english student in England I have no Idea what Jelle is talking about half the time in his rants on the subject, it's a gap in the curriculum, certainly in England.

to be honest, most knowledge of tenses etc, comes from my french lessons, and it's not just that there's a gap in the curriculum but we did get a really crap teacher for 2 years, for our GCSEs.
