The guitarist in Stillwater reminded me of George Harrison.
He really looks like Dickey Betts though, and plays a Les Paul. |
Hey, just wanna throw in my 2 cents. Most really awesome and somewhat popish CR bands have been mentioned (Zep, Floyd, Doors etc.) but then back then there was so much more.
If anyone here is into progressive rock (or even prog metal for that matter) check out bands like: Yes Emerson, Lake & Palmer Gentle Giant King Crimson Cargo The Flower Kings Deep Purple Uriah Heep Camel many many others also check out the site http://www.progarchives.com for even more bands n info. later |
Any chance you could upload Reckoning?
For some reason there is 2 discs that I downloaded, but when I look at any website, it says it's 1 :\ I'll upload the 1st(real) disc. |
This new Neil Young is awesome.

Hey, everybody, I'm new to the site so I decided to put on one message. First of all...I'm really impressed how so many teenager still like Classic Rock and in my opinion...I do think bands (like the darkness) are a start to a big Classic Rock revival. I don't think they're anywhere near as good or authentic as say The Who, Led Zeppelin, Van Morrison, or Bob Dylan...but I do think that its a start...and a very good attempt at bringing back Classic Rock
|
Welcome to the forums, man.
|
Not that I really care, but whatever happened to the Darkness? Everyone made a huge deal of them a couple years ago.
|
I didn't even like them. That video made me scared. He was rubbing on that purple thing.
I only liked when they had all them Marshalls stacked up. Right now I'm hooked on Help on the Way/Slipknot! and Here Comes Sunshine. |
They have a new album coming out, and the lead singer/guitarist Justin Hawkins has his solo CD coming out soon. But their bassist Frankie left so I dunno whats going on there.

His solo single is absolutely awful. And when is the new Darkness album coming out? |

Whoa. He uses punctuation and capitalizes when needed. WHOA |
I'm thinking I heard somewhere around November.

Well...I'm new to the site. And so I decided to put up a message. First of all...I'm real impressed with how many teenagers still like Classic Rock...and in my opinion I think that alot of modern bands (like the darkness) are trying hard to make a very big Classic Rock revival. Although they are not nearly as good or authentic as say The Who, Les Zeppelin, Van Morrison, or Bob Dylan. But I think that there's going to be a big Classic Rock comeback thanks to some modern bands.
|
I sometimes hear this argument, and I'd like to know which bands besides The Darkness (who are more of a Van Halen/Queen/AC/DC pastiche) are doing a "classic rock revival".
|
The Dandy Warhols sound like Classic Rock or have that fibe.
|
The Dandy Warhols don't really sound like a classic rock band to me, which is why I don't think there is or ever will be a "classic rock revival".
|
I don't think they will be a CR Revival because back then it was a different time, different things going on and IMO less about making big bucks and more about Rock N' Roll, in a sense, also there was only one or two main genres back then that were really popular now we have like 10.
But when I say the Dandy Warhols I can just imagine 30 years from now having my kids listening to them and thinking them as a Classic Rock band. /makes no sense. |
Please, there have always been rock bands who were "about making big bucks".
But yes, it was a different time then. It would be impossible to recreate the same context and surroundings that spawned Dylan, Neil Young, Jimi Hendrix, The Stones, Cream, etc. |

I've never seen Gentle Giant though. I used to have a copy of In a Glass House but hated it so I sold it on Ebay. I'm not a big fan of Prog period even the bigger names don't appeal to me (King Crimson, Rush, Yes....etc) the only exception is of course Pink Floyd. I hate this whole "classic rock revival" thing going around it'll never happen again the greatness will never be matched again. Great new bands will form but there will never be another era of Classic Rock. |

Well I don't know if you guys know but hurricane Katrina is about to wipe out New Orleans which happens to be my home town. This is one of the strongest (if not the strongest) storms ever recorded. :upset:

NP: House of the Raising Sun - Animals
That sucks. I can't imagine living in Florida where you get the hurricanes all fall. I mean Florida's awesome and all, but every year there's one of these ridiculous hurricanes where everyone has to evacuate and stuff. I didn't know New Orleans got hit by hurricanes though. I went there once a long time ago. It was a cool city. House of the Rising Sun is awesome. I love that song. np- Southern Man |
That's a good album; one of my top 5 Dead albums, and 2nd favorite Live Dead album.
"Rosalie McFall" is my favorite song off of there.
That sucks. I can't imagine living in Florida where you get the hurricanes all fall. Reckoning's from '81.
My favorite is Europe '72. |

Scheduled Hurricanes > Random Tornadoes
Well how about a 90% chance that all the things you leave behind well be under water? New Orleans is below sea level the water from this storm could bring the water 28 feet above sea level. I'm not kidding here. New Orleans will be under water tromorrow. 100's of 1000's of people will die, billions and billions of dollars will be lost. Check the weather channel this storm is HUGE. It's an F5 and getting stronger! |

I want Europe '72 again :p
With the 12-disc set that I downloaded, it didn't give me any earlier stuff like s/t, Aoxomoxoa(sp?), Europe '72. |

np- Purple Haze
The planet Earth has killed the song Purple Haze for me. :upset: Everyone Loves that song and always mentions it to me when I where A Hendrix shirt. I hear the song soo much, I don't really like it anymore. Hendrix is way underplayed on the radio except for Purple Haze, Foxey Ladey, and maybe one or two others, which are all overplayed. Radio stations and people in general need to delve deeper into Hendrix's selsection; and this coming from someone who's heard just over one album!
