i dub thee Badmoon the biggest Gratefull dead fan on mx.
^ That would never happen to me. I would be grounded forever. I don't smoke though.
That's what I thought until I realized my parents smoke, then I realized that they never told me weed was bad or not to smoke it, and that they never would  Any of you users know why it was all compressed and flakey? The curiosity is driving me mad. |

I think it's been known. And what's with that dude who completely jacked my avatar? |

Who is that? I liked that old one a lot. I had a freind who had hair like Garcia's. On a side note, what does your usertitle mean? |

Who stole it? And is the rest of American Beauty anything like Casey Jones? You'd be the one to ask, I think. |

And is the rest of American Beauty anything like Casey Jones? You'd be the one to ask, I think.
Casey Jones is on Workingman's Dead, and I wouldn't say American Beauty is really like it, but I guess it's somewhat similar. Edit: Reading what you've said so far, I don't think you would really like American Beauty. Truckin' isn't really representative of most of the songs on that album. Most of it is softer country influenced and mellow, like you said. |

My guess is that it is a Grateful Dead song |

"Iko Iko", it is a traditional song. The song has a very famous melody, though most do not know that it came from this song; the Dead covered it several times.
And is the rest of American Beauty anything like Casey Jones? You'd be the one to ask, I think.
All of American Beauty has a Country influenced (Whether it is Traditional Country, Country Blues, Gospel, etc), similar to "Casey Jones". Though I have always found that "Casey Jones" has a Country/Acid Rock feel to, like "Sugar Magnolia". So keep in mind that not all of American Beauty has that particular same sound. |

Any of you users know why it was all compressed and flakey? The curiosity is driving me mad.
I have no clue why it would be like that. Maybe it's just older weed, it sorta dries up and can take on different characteristics than what you'd normally see. It might just be compressed because it was in a huge bag, weed in big bags is usually squished because of all the weight. If none of those seem like reasonable answers (I'm finding it somewhat hard to picture what you're describing) then I'm not sure. You're best bet is to smoke some and see if it's good stuff. Ya I saw that guy with the same avatar as Badmoon, I thought it was him at first. That was a couple days ago, has he changed it yet? |

He hasn't repsonded. It is obvious that he copied mine. I completely lightened, cut and downsized mine myself. And they look exactly the same.
But whatever. |
What would you guys reccomend to me if I'm looking for something phsycadelic? I'm listening ot Piper at the Gates of Gawn on the internet right now, and it's allright. I have stuff from the 60's, but I wouldn't consider it "phycadelic".

Great Psychedelic Albums (I don't know how much you already own): Jefferson Airplane - Surrealistic Pillow Grateful Dead - Anthem of the Sun, Aoxomoxoa Traffic - Mr. Fantasy Country Joe and the Fish - Electric Music.... Spirit - 12 Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus Quicksilver Messenger Service - Happy Trails Cream - Disraeli Gears Love - Forever Changes Just a few from the top of my head. |

Piper at the Gates of Dawn is probably as psychedelic as they come...although the actual songs aren't always like super great. Barret was great at crafting psychedelic songs/sounds, altough his actual songwriting skills leave something to be desired. Lunch suggested albums that aren't consistently as "psychedelic" as PATGOD, but the songwriting is much better. |
Grateful Dead - Anthem of the Sun
Keep in mind that if you buy this album, it'll probably take you a year to understand/get into. At least it did for me :( |
Thanks lunch and thickasabrick, that's pretty much what I was looking for. From what I've heard off each respective album, Piper... does seem to be more psycaldelic than the others, with less real "musical qualities".
EDIT:
Keep in mind that if you buy this album, it'll probably take you a year to understand/get into. At least it did for me :(
What do you mean by that? Like the concept, if there is one, or just the music in general? |
What do you mean by that? Lets also throw in The Doors Strange Days as well, for kicks.
|
I found it easy to enjoy Anthem of the Sun, but I could see how you would initially not like it very much.
|
Speaking of psychadelic, what do you guys think of Iron Butterfly?

I never liked them, and their vocalist's voice isn't very enjoyable. |
I've only heard Inna-Gadda-da-Vidda(sp?)
Not a bad song, though. I saw the album, it had 3 versions of it. *One-hit Wonders??* |
I never liked them, and their vocalist's voice isn't very enjoyable.
I've got a really cool instrumental that they did. Soldier In Our Town is a cool song, too. |
for Psychedillic rock I don't belive Saucerful of Secrets, Piper at the Gates of Dawn(Syd Barrett's years with Pink Floyd), The Mad Cap Laughs, or Barrett (Syd Barrett's solo) have been mentioned yet.

Well he already said he was listening to Piper. |
I should upload this instrumental. It's the trippiest song I have ever heard.

Ha I was thinking about mentioning them but decided not to. I have In Da Gadda Da Vida (sp?) on viynl it's pretty good. |

I've heard the rest of the album is horrible. |
A lot of their music sucks, but I love this instrumental that they do called "Iron Butterfly Theme."
|
I couldn't imagine it really being any good. It's a classic rock song, but, it still leaves a bit to be desired, which leads me to beleive that the rest of their work isn't that great.
