The best two places i've been to in America were San Jose and Santa Cruz. New York was abit crazy for my liking, as was LA. I just thought i'd bring that up.

Lunch 09-04-2005 10:45 AM

That must've been the reason then.

Shadows 09-04-2005 11:11 AM

I feel un-American. I've spent 16 years here and I've never been to any major cities like New York, LA, Chicago, what have you. The closest I've ever gotten was a brief pass through Cleveland. I've only been to a few other states besides my own and never out of the country, :(

I need to travel more.

Endless Obsession 09-04-2005 11:11 AM
DC United played a friendly against Chelsea not long ago, and only lost 2-1. That's incredible for US soccer, IMO.
I was so excited when I heard about that, but Chealsea didnt use all their top players so its not the same.

Cleveland should never be mentioned in the same sentence as New York, LA, and Chicago. Its so many steps below those cities its just sad. Cleveland sucks so much.

I want to travel after Uni, I think.

And I now no longer have a job

Shadows 09-04-2005 11:16 AM

I'll be traveling around the US next summer looking at colleges. It will be both fun and depressing.

Either after undergrad or grad school I plan on taking a one year backpacking trip to Europe just to experience new things. If my friend and I stay in touch we're going together, and it'll be awesome. Just get money washing dishes or whatever and living at hostels, traveling and learning. It's one of the things I most look forward to doing.

I don't think he's referring to size, it's just that Cleveland sucks so much that it's not worth seeing. Go to Chicago, New York, and Boston.

I guess...but when I passed through I was impressed at how nice it looked.

I'd love to go to New York or Boston.

I don't really get why big cities are cool. So what if they have 40 story buildings and a million McDonald's. Sure, some of them have oodles of culter(See: New Orleans) but for the most part, they are just giant metropolitan crapholes with lots of bad drivers and construction workers.

Endless Obsession 09-04-2005 11:55 AM

I like NYC because of the atmosphere. Just people are actually walking around the city (unlike Cleveland) and there are great stores and resturants and places to go and see. I love big cities.

You just described the entire state of Michigan. Damn my brother for moving up there, thus forcing my family to go there every chance we get.

I live in a small town, and I love it
the forest is just down my street :)
I love nature

I love big cities. :p And I live in one. It's great, they have loads of CD stores, loads of public transportation, loads of everything really. The Medieval buildings down town and the lights in the big city just give a great atmosphere.

The East Coast is by far, the best part of the country. Hence, I think I'll move there after college.

I live near LA, and I don't like the people so much. I mean there are so many chill people here, but there are so many people made of plastic, it's just unbelievable. That's what Southern California is all about: the looks. Why do you think people call it La La Land? Because there are people who think they are celebrities, and their lifes revolve around looking trendy and up-to-date. I'm not saying there aren't a lot of people back East like that, but I think it prevails here more than anywhere else.

I also just like New York more than LA. I don't care about the weather. I've been there in late July, and I've been there in late December. Speaking of that, people here are so sensitive to any weather other than a cloudless, perfect day outside. If it's 60 degrees, people act like it's freezing.

I also have tons of family in New York, and North New Jersey, and I have a few cousins in Boston. So I won't totally be alone. But I would be leaving a lot of family here. I've been there plenty of times, so I know the city pretty well. I just feel like if I don't get there after college, I won't feel complete.

superpeer 09-04-2005 12:42 PM

Yeah, Al, we beat the Americans, because they don't have any cool medieval things.

:high fives fellow So Cal'er:

Yeah, living near LA blows because there's so many artificial people and media whores and stuff like that.

Where I live, it's a quiet suburb type-ish thing crammed between cities.

If I can picture my mental map of Cypress correctly, Kurtz lives in around the same type of area.

Kurtz, do you live by Oxford btw?

Edit: The street's Ethel or something around those lines.

That's northern Belgium isn't it?

Sometimes it really sucks to be American. Our country has no historical value compared to Europe.
