Thanks Crumb.
Can you recommend me some more Brazilian music?
Looking for any mood/style in particular? Lô Borges' self-titled from 1972 is really cool, probably the last Brazilian album to really catch my ear. Post-tropicalia stuff, very much informed by the same anglo-psychedelic overtones, mostly pretty playful stuff, some stringy ballads thrown in for good measure. In the same vein, Soul Jazz released a follow-up to the tropicalia comp they put out called Brazil 70. It's not bad, definitely gives a nice idea of where Brazilian pop/rock was going in the early 70s, gots most of the big names. In a more funkier direction, I got a remaster for some stuff by a band called Azymuth. A Madlib favorite, he's sampled them some, really nice electro soul-jazz. Kinda corny sometimes, but when they're on, they're great. The remaster is a 2 disc thing, Peanut Butter Wolf even does a remix on the second disc. I can throw up some stuff if those sound interesting. |
