I know what you mean, and that pisses me off as much as anyone. I love it when people have differeing opinions from me--it's what makes the world work. Personally, I think Tarantino is a complete hack, but that doesn't mean other people can't love him.

World Cup, here we come!
w00t!

I serously get into soccer during the World Cup, just because most Europeans that I know personally love to say USA sucks at Soccer, when we actually dont.

The reason they say that is partially because most of the good American players end up on european teams.

For example, the last game the Eintracht Frankfurt won was won because of an american player on their tem.

We dont suck at soccer, but we dont get to keep any of our good players, the **** EU steals em from us!

We are ranked 6th in the world, even over England
Man, the guitar forum really is crap.
It really is, sadly. I have been making a concious effort to do what I can to clean it up, but it's really hard when 95% of the posters suck worse than anyone in R&M. And then the mods also do something to try and make the place better, and they just get "gtfo'd" and stuff. It's really quite pathetic.

Exactly. My one British friend loves talking shit but Im always like, "you know the US is just as good if not better than Britain these days" he goes "the system is flawed, if we played we would murder you guys".

How is the featured song thing going?
Pretty good, actually. I've got about 5 or 6 people lined up to do a song, and Byzantine has completed his already, and it will be posted sometime next weekish. I've read it, and it's really quite good. I think there were at least a couple people who actually used my guide to learn 46&2, which is exactly what I wanted to do.

Endless Obsession 09-03-2005 11:09 PM
Well they would, and they did a couple of months ago. The US team is still very good though, especially for a country with fuck all tradition for the game.
I can also see the other countries being upset about it like "Its our main sport everybody plays it, its unfair that the US can be better than us when they dont have near the respect for the game as our country."

What other countries dont understand is that all the BEST athletes dont even play soccer, they play one of the 3 major sports here, Basketball, Baseball, or football, so believe it or not, the US could actually be a lot better if they groomed the kids to be soccer players like a Spain, or any other country like that.

OMG THIS HAPPENED AFTER THE MY PREVIOUS POST ABOUT ENGLISH NOT RESPECTING THE US TEAM.
the FIFA rankings are based on a flawed system. who here seriously considers USA to be a top 10 team? laughable.
Hahah, thats exactly what I said they all say.

ATM 09-03-2005 11:19 PM

Well they may not be the best, but I love US Soccer and I will suppourt it no matter what.

Cool. I read yours, and it was very good. If that standard continues I can see it being very successful. If it's still running in a month or so I'll contribute, although what I have in mind is a bit more artsy.
Wicked. Glad to hear it. AIM me sometime with what you're planning on and I'll put you down. Like I said, there's a ton of people cued up, so you'll be waiting for quite a while. :-/

I don't love them. Ya I support them and all... but I'm not that big of a soccer fan.

off topic- i did go see Maryland vs. Navy. that was an awesome football game

Illmatic 09-04-2005 12:32 AM

If we win the World Cup or at least make it very far, I will personally invest every cent I own into taking a trip into Europe and laughing at all the European soccer fans who talked shit about Team USA.

Speaking of college football, and college sports in general, I am so sick of all the East Coast snobs who trash the Big Ten.

/Isn't me because I don't really care about the divisions.

I don't think we will. It'd be nice to go far, but I doubt we'll win

Well, here in Mexico, Soccer is like the "king's sport", sometimes is annoying, 'cause we don't have sport variety, so all you can see on sundays is soccer and everyday, the sport news are about soccer.

Special Brew 09-04-2005 01:13 AM

I used to play soccer when I was younger 'til my legs gave out. I can't even run now, according to the doctors :upset:

Doctors at Duke couldn't even figure it out. It's somethign wrong with the joints in my knees. I can easily dislocate them if I am overly active and when they pop back in, they occasionally go in slightly crooked and always hurt like hell. They told to stay away from any sports and running or else they may get worse.
Well that can be said for plenty of European countries too. Still, I'd be willing to bet that if America groomed its kids for more than just internal sports it could dominate everything. America has the best sports and training facilities in the world and if enough people switched to the game, America could easily dominate. But the US still doesn't have that great of a team.
Because there's no money to be made in soccer in America.

Most of our top athletes move on to basketball, football, and baseball because that's where the money is.

Average MLB salary - $2.49 million(source)
Average NBA salary - $3.7 million, circa 2003 (source)
Average NFL salary - $1.17 million, circa 2001(source)
Average MLS salary - I can't find the average, but Landon Donovan is the highest paid player in the MLS at $900k (source)

And even then, the NFL numbers are decieving because a lot of contracts are incentive-based.

And yet Australia with it's less-than-world class facilities, 1/11th of the population and a younger history of sports still manages to give you guys a run for your money in every sport except Baseball. :)

Alright, due to unforeseen complications in yesterday's schedule, I wasn't able to put up my spotlight on Rusted Root. But it will be up today sometime around lunch.

Bartender 09-04-2005 06:25 AM

Does anyone know where the word "soccer" came from? Football seems pretty obvious (American football slightly less so, but still), but I've no idea how soccer came about.

Anyway, good morning.

the2stranger 09-04-2005 06:29 AM

good day all

I wnet to The Island yestersday, anyone seen it?
I really like the concept, and the acting was quite ok too.
Sean Bean played a very very good role IMO.

the concept is sort of similair to 1984 by George Orwell
