Distant Echoes 05-02-2005 04:07 PM

AC/DC was a hugely talented band (not near my favorite though), but they lacked creativity. If i were in Angus' position, i could never think of so many different solos for so many similar songs.

I found a bunch of new psychedelic pics, but dont know which i should use as my avator http://www.koolpages.com/tiedyeman/gallery3.html
I would normally do this in the Community thread, but I'm not always in the mood to get into their conversations...but who wants to pick one for me?

And thanks for the thorogood suggestions, i might pick me up a live album latter this week, since im stinkin rich after that ebay investment :smoke:

thickasabrick 05-02-2005 04:23 PM

I couldn't really pick out one picture I liked, Distant Echoes, they were all pretty cool. There were a few on the first couple pages that really caught my eye though. I suggest you just go for whatever you're in the mood for...you can always change it.

edit- I used the Shroom one as my msn pic.

ATM 05-02-2005 04:25 PM

I like the bubble cave. I just made it my background.

TheDMV 05-02-2005 04:47 PM

I liked Horus Anomoly and Shroom. Could you resize one of them for me by any chance?

MalcolmYoungRock 05-02-2005 04:55 PM

Dimensions?

MalcolmYoungRock 05-02-2005 04:59 PM

I like the Rainbow Lake one.

But due to the recent influx of n00bs stealing my avatar, I'm not changing it yet.
I heard that Thorogoods best was his debut. I've yet to buy any of his albums, though. Fortuneatley, the local Classic Rock Station plays him quite a bit.
Oh, man, he's a killer live. One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer is fucking epic live  .

pigonthewing82 05-02-2005 05:48 PM
I think they wrote good songs, they were just all the same.

If they could come out with one album...it would be a huge success. If they went back in time they could release a different album and it would also be a big success. Unfortunately, they released like thirty albums...so it really starts to wear off after a while because you realize they only could write one type of song.
Yeah I went through my AC/DC phase......for about a week.

Just like my Van Halen phase, all the songs started to sound the same. I mean somtimes I still listen to Back in Black, or Van Halens self titled (I still love Ice Cream man, good blues rock combo).

lunch998 05-02-2005 05:49 PM

I never went through I Van Halen phase, but I had a small Ac/Dc one.

Woodstock 05-02-2005 05:53 PM

I never liked Van Halen. I also, however, did have an AC/DC phase. I was so young and naive.

For about a month or two I was really big on Van Halen, then Hot For Teacher stopped being so jaw dropping, and seemed more like everything. I really think if the wanted to Eddie Van Halen could add a lot more to his songs, but stuck with just the tapped out solos.

Distant Echoes 05-02-2005 06:02 PM

Regardless of how much Eddie Tapped, he defintaly brought it to a new level. I still dont think theres many people who can touch the peak of where he brought it. Ive tried learning Hot for Teacher (my favorite Van Halen song), but the intro tapping was too far apart...2 frets to long for my left had to handle, so i stuck with You really got me.

Eddie deserves all the credit in the world for being a phenominal guitarist, but then again, he does have the edge by releasing a 1 1/2 insame guitar solo 'eruption'. Most guitarist save it for the concert, though i heard its even better and longer during theirs.

Haha, yeah. I knew youd say that...i was gonna mention it, but didnt wanna say anything that i could get busted on. Im sending that to my sister now, i know shell like it - since i got her into some 60s/70s.

Yeah he does deserve a lot of tapping credit, and I'm not one of these Van Halen sucks people, I just wish he could have used that tapping ablity more then he did, or to try somthing different after a while.

Its ashame how bad he lost in the voteing thread...he might not be the best there...but he wasnt worse then all of em. I wouldve given him a sympathy vote, but it was sortta pointless. He has some really impressive stuff on clean guitar too...sorttof like Eddie is to Modern(er) music, as Hendrix is to 60's.

Hendrix is too known for his work on Are You Experienced...Axis is 10x better IMO

AYE>Electric Ladyland>Axis, I think.

I think Electric Ladyland is much better than Axis. Although Axis has some great songs, EL is just an overall better album.

ATM 05-02-2005 06:22 PM

I like Electric Ladyland the best.

Distant Echoes 05-02-2005 06:24 PM

I love the songs on AYE, but the solos are so frikkin sloppy. The guitarwork overall is poor, and improves alot on Axis. So i love the songs as a whole, but not the guitarwork.

Except Fire. That song just ****in rocks.
Little Wing is probably his best display of guitar work (clean-wise)
And i got this album 'First Rays of the New Rising Sun' a few months ago, which i like alot, but are they just songs that didnt make the albums by the time he died? Thats what i was told, but i dont know where they came from

Yea, you're right. They were songs to go on a next album that was never finished.

lunch998 05-02-2005 06:28 PM

I'm usually a whore for debut albums, mainly because the tend to be more raw and representative of the band's live sound. The studio refinement is all well and good, but I'd rather listen to AYE than Axis because of that.

Distant Echoes 05-02-2005 06:29 PM

They pretty good. Stepping Stone i think is Jimis best guitar solo on any of his studio albums.

Room Full of Mirrors>other songs on First Rays

Woodstock 05-02-2005 06:30 PM

I rarely listen to AYE because of my local Classic Rock station killing every song for me.

I prefer Hey Baby (New Rising Sun) and Ezy Ryder.

I think Voodoo Child is his best studio solo, though lets just comprimise and say when he playes Steppin Stone in the middle of Voodoo Child at Woodstock (and Berkely, but Woodstock is better) its just amazing.

I just found that in the basemant last weekend, I was so happy

As far as phases go I think I am entering an Allman Brothers Band phase

Yeah those tracks are just amazing in my opinion from the start of Voodoo Child, to the end of Villanova Junction heard on his Live at Woodstock cd is the best peice of recorded music of all time.
