Sup guys. I've had a fantarstic weekend, but sadly, it is over now.
Opeth/Nevermore on Thursday, chillin' like a villian on Friday, an Indian dance performance and dinner in the city (rack of lamb!) on Saturday, and today...homework. Bleh. Fortunately, I'm reading an interesting book for my lecture: John Keegan's "The Face of Battle." EDIT: I'm kind of sad that no one's posting in the R+M Theory thread anymore. I like answering questions. I hope it doesn't permanently die. :(
lucky, that sounded like an awesome concert and from what i've heard, that's a very good book. i've been considering reading it for a while now. |

I would like to see opeth live :-/
Friday I went to a birthday party, Saturday I went to an art festival. I saw a friend's band play, I recorded it on my Iaudio X5L. (I might post a picture of a drunk guy "Dancing" to the music). I saw Jarhead that night(Good Movie). Today I worked and did nothing else really. |

Why didn't anyone edit out the links to those pictures.
I'm not gonna click on them because my parents are watching TV right behind me. (a) NP: Arcturus- Kinetic |

I really cant, you have to see it to get it. |
Inebriatively osmosing?
Drunk be don't dance, but that would be my best guess as to what he was doing. |
Of course he probably claims there are too many mallcore kids here.
Not that I would ever stand up for anyone who has professed a dislike for Power Metal...but he does have a point there... |
Hey, that wasn't a victory for the "mallcore" kids. I represent no faction! :triumphant:

Oh please, mx isnt that bad. It is a helluva lot better than some high school. |
Was Into Eternity at your show Cain? If so, how were they? I have yet to hear their new line-up.
They were there, I caught the tail end of their set. They struck me as energetic but also a little generic, theatrical, and unimpressive. Plus their visual look was kind of down-side. The guitarists were fat and bald with gigantic goatees, the kind of vaguely neo-Nazi metal look that Kerry King has, and which I don't really like. It's also a trait in a lot of nu-metal...they just didn't have me entirely engaged. Opeth and Nevermore were amazing however, although Opeth were the clear standouts. I still think Nevermore are great, but when compared directly to the performance of a band like Opeth, I realized something: how metal can be amusing to some people. Nevermore had me totally engaged during the performance, but after the concert and looking back, they were just so stereotypically "metal" that I almost found my mental image of them amusing. Not so with Opeth. The audience was a ball of mercury in their hands. They proceeded to shatter all conceptions of what metal is...the band members don't even act like typical metal musicians. No lie, I was nearly attracted to Peter Lindgren when I watched him as he played...he's got such a slight figure and such a calm demeanor, and he just exudes godliness in the same way the rest of the band does. I was captivated. Nevermore were great but Opeth just wiped the floor with them. A great show. |
Pfft...Poseurs...

STFU OLLIE U R GHAY LOL! I totally agree, kids like Kittens in Microwaves are horror stories, but a lot are just newbs, they need to learn, give them a helping hand, don't skullfuck them with your opinions. |
There are just as many of these so-called "mallcore" users as there are pigheaded elitists, so basically this argument is null. (a)

Haha, sometimes it'd be nice if Faction A cancelled out Faction B, and vice versa. But hey, it doesn't matter at this point, because...
Go Jom!
... wooooooo! Score one for rational thought! (h5) etc. |
Yeah, most threads I reg in I help people coming in with stupid questions...except death heads and the BM thread...partly because You're asking for it if you come in idiotically there and partly as I have a reputation to keep up :p

LAME! Oldschool IE was amazing, with freaking Kris and Scott Krall, Jim Austin, and Dan Nargang. Is Stu Block's voice comparable to Kris Krall's at all? hum, excuse the ignorance, but can someone make a thorough, objective post that defines what mallcore exactly is, and add some bandsthat enter the said genre?
I was left out when they stated in the Punk forums the existence of "poo-punk" But that was two years ago. ok. go. |

Riva, I have a question: Would Polgara the Sorceress be worth buying or should I just get it at the Library? and have you read any of the new Eddings books yet?

It doesn't include all -core genres, as Grindcore is not included. Like jpj said, it's a derogatory term. Key Bands: Korn Slipknot Limp Bizkit The Haunted Atreyu (sp?) etc |

Yes, it's a good read. Really adds to the storyline, and it's got re-reading value. However, if you have Belgarath the Sorcerer, then you could probably do with just borrowing Polgara from the library. As for their new stuff, it's interesting, and it's very well-written, but it's a strange kind of direction that they've taken. The first book "The Elder Gods" was a bit plodding, but the second book "The Treasured One" picked up well. As for The Redemptio of Althalus, it's brilliant. Well, I really enjoyed, at least. And it's a stand alone novel, so don't be scared by the size of it. :) |

I remember hearing The Haunted called mallcore a few times before. I don't know, maybe I'm not remembering right.

I like The Haunted. :(

I think most people's gripe with the Haunted is that they get labelled as thrash-death.
